  1. You are correct, it is slightly off time. However, you definately are going toward the sound that you are looking for. For the 80's though, you definately need more synth. I like the bass tone actually, reminds me of good ol' Geddy Lee's in 84. Keep truckin! I love the idea.
  2. I think this could stand to be sped up by like 2 BPM. I know that doesn't seem like much, but I find that adding that 2 BPM can really put some energy. I agree with what Clockwork Dolphin said about the drums, but in my little BOSE earbuds the drums and things are perfect. He's right about the lead though, that little effect is cool, but its used to often. Yes the guitar isn't realistic, but *shrug* it sounds good so far. Don't worry about it. If you're really worried that badly about it, then use a synth instead. >>
  3. Being a bass player, I would recommend NOT using distortion on sampled bass. It really makes it sound like a synth and it's all buzzy... ew... Even if you have a amp modeling system its hard to pull off. If you really want to have a slightly overdriven sound you should just get a real bass (yeah, that's easy >_>) but quite frankly, given your current guitar sound you shouldn't need distorted bass, just a nice low-end bass sample should work. Make sure it has some high end though, other wise if you program in little runs, they won't be very audible.
  4. I <3 this website. The forums are great and the music is awesome. KEEP UP THE AMAZING ARMY! I will be a part. Yes. yes yes...
  5. Wow. No, I love it. I love the heaviness of the bass, it just screams SEX! ... I'm a guy tho, sorry.
  6. Okay guys. It's been a couple days. Thanks for all your reviews, it really helped me mold the way I was gonna do this. Of course I was going to always mic the guitars. But doubling the acoustic strumming was something I didn't think of, so thanks Geoffrey Taucer for that great suggestion. This is still a wip, duh. Not finished at all. I have to think of a small solo for the intro (or just the beginning two notes and creatively fade out) and of course FINISH THE SONG! However, this is the idea I have, I really like how it turned out. This is also a rough mix, so it may not be perfect. I think the drums are a touch two loud and the chorus Electric guitar part could come up a little. Also my vocals are far from final, I am still unhappy with my performance. Also, just in case I tweak them, I'm not gonna post the lyrics, hopefully you can get an idea about that. Thanks for all the help and enjoy! Endless Nights Demo 1
  7. There is no massively distorted guitar. So it sucks. Other than that it was nice.
  8. To help with the layering problem, some how drop that cool pad back a little bit more. Or give it a bit more in the way of reverb. I really like the background noises, but they could be quieted down a bit through the quiet parts, I know it seems like they should stay there but it may help. That piano descant shouldn't be piano, that's the problem in my mind. It should be some sort of leady synth instrument probably... even a harp sound would do it better in my mind. Unless you just want to remove it. As far as the layering, I think you would be a huge amount ahead by lowering down that cool pad, becuase I can hear how it messes with everything else. I like the fact that it builds up as it does, and the synth descant actually doesn't come up enough, but let me see if your altrenate is any better. Okay, find the middle ground between the altrenate and what you currently have, and I think you will be on your way. Keep in mind that I am very inexperienced compared to some who hang around this part of the forums, so there probably is a lot more that could be improved upon, these are just the things I hear.
  9. Well from what I hear, (which loops nicely and could go into a video game) You are off to a good start, I would like to hear what melodies you use, becuase I can hear that part of awakening, but there isn't much else here. SHOW ME MORE!
  10. THIS is a ReMix baby. Yes, it is JUST another Chrono Trigger remix, but man the little effects that you add and the new groove... just yummylicious. I saw some other comments and thought to myself "It couldn't be that good" and you know, I was very impressed. Exceeded my expectations. I like the drum panning, with headphones it bounces around and makes me feel like playing my guitar. Speaking of guitars, wow. Those things are well used and everything like that, the little guitar runs and everything make this even better. I really don't have any comments except don't give it any high-end sizzle. It's got that warm vintage sound to it. LOVE!
  11. Wow. Uh... what everyone else said. The clipping really kills me too, because its right where I would have expected it with someone who doesn't know how to properly compress or volumize. I am not the beat all, end all of compression, but look for a VST of a compressor (I have heard BRICKFISH is a good one) and compress the hell out of everything until you figure out how to use it. Plus, some things come with presets, so look at those. Its all learning from that. I completely agree with metaphist.
  12. Alright, here we go. I had an idea long ago for remixing the "sad theme" from Chrono Trigger (titled At the Bottom of Night on the soundtrack) though for some reason I thought it was titled Endless Nights, so I wrote out some lyrics. After much deliberation I decided that this would be great as a power ballad, or even a jazz ballad style song so I cast in in that role. This WIP copy is purely acoustic with a lead acoustic guitar, the chords and my voice (please tell me if it sucks) I am looking for suggestions, based upon the arrangement of the melody and the form, please. If those fundamental things are all good with you guys as they seem to be to me, then I will go ahead and add the other fluffy stuffs... and you know, mic the guitar instead of direct lining it. 13. Electronica with some live bass, some vocals recorded by me. All in all I think this is pretty good stuff when compared to my other stuff. www.acelie.com/cyril/mp3/grok.mp3
  14. I dunno if it is! Does it have to much Original Material? Does it have to little? Does it not do justice to the theme? Is it a crappy remix if it is one at all? You decide! www.acelie.com/cyril/mp3/pntgrespel.mp3
  15. This sucks. I wish I actually had money to spend on music supplies other than bass strings. Damn those expensive things.
  16. Want a bassist? I have only bass guitars (acoustic and electric) and a 5-string. I won't charge a fee yet... but that will change. I also can play saxophone (alto) in any style. If you need any mandolin parts to be played, I can cover that as well. Same for soprano recorder. Again no charge as of yet. I can do baritone/bass vocals as well, mostly rock sounding though.
  17. Yo. I compose music. I came into OCR mainly because I have a remix... which just went back to production beacuase, it quite frankly sucked.
