  1. The Fast Track works great, I have the Fast Track Pro and don't regret it. A condenser works great for both vocals and guitar generally, but.... getting an SM57 or a like knockoff is often better for micing electric guitar amps, becuase its directional. There's something about the sonic qualities of a dynamic that works best for guitar cab micing, don't ask what, I'm not completely sure. However, if you don't have the money for both, just stick with the condensor, they work great. Just make sure whatever you get, as Prophet said, has phantom power. Good luck! EDIT: Get the pro, you'll need it for a condenser, and I always recommend spending a little bit more now so that you can do more in the future. Just some food for thought.
  2. There's two reasons that I can see this wouldn't be accepted... becuase I really really really like the way this was arranged aside from these. 1) Not enough interpretation/original material. The only deviations from the source tune(s) are the fact that they drumline is very busy underneath the battle theme and the transitions in between. So its kind of pushing it. (http://www.ocremix.org/info/Submission_Standards_and_Instructions Check under the 4... generally a genre change is not quite enough to constitute enough arrangement.) 2) Those sounds are terribly fake sounding... they are the samples that come with Finale? Sadly, those won't cut it on this site. If you want to find a collaborator who has amazing orchestral samples for brass and percussion, you may seek them, and they may help you out! Other than those two issues, I thoroughly enjoyed it... you may want to learn a bit about production too, but then again if you collaborate with someone else, that end may be taken care of. If you want it on this site, good luck, I'll be keeping and eye on this thread.
  3. Latest episode = awesome. http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/there-will-be-brawl/606-Episode-Three
  4. Incredible... just... incredible. Also, Sam, that was in 4/4 No, but seriously, amazing video. I would have laughed harder if I wasn't still recovering from illness
  5. I second Xenon's comment. This sounds really HQ for being only FM synths. Like really full and hardcore. No improvements, its above my level of musicianship to ask for any. But I must say: this is off the hook!
  6. I agree with Eino, don't apologize! I hope someone takes you up on this (and if I get time and it seems no one cares I may give it a modest shot with my not professional grade samples) But, lets wait, there are people far better than I am with this sort of music. I really like this arrangement too, its hardcore.
  7. Personally I don't always turn the master down before doing my duty. The main reason I have for this is becuase some of my tunes are already quite quiet (my acoustic tune that I was doing recently was barely getting above 2 db on some occasions.) On the other hand it works in 99% of cases so I just wanted to add my two cents. I do agree with Tensei-San about doing a sort of A/B test with your crappy speakers and a sub. Personally I think mixing and mastering without a sub (at least part of the time) is ridiculous, becuase I have some fairly high quality headphones and they do NOT have the bass response to help me hear if the low-end is that crowded or not. Similarly, on my headphones I may goose the bass in the mastering EQ but when I listen with a sub it sounds far too boomy. So yea. Also, when I mix I tend to have a Multi-band constantly present on the master, at least after I have most of hte main parts written/recorded. The multi-band stays on the entire time, I only tweak it after I have finished and decided what frequency range needs to be more compressed and stuff. After that I use an EQ on the master track and then put it through a limiter clipper AFTER exporting. The reason I do this is becuase the multiband is good, but it doesn't get the track up to the "commercial" volume (which you really can't get to unless you have at least $1000 in equipment in general anyway, but I just use that as a perceived volume level) so I usually put it through that as a final step, once again always A/B testing it the entire time. That's what I do, and there are certainly differences in the methods, but I've found that mine work, so experiment a little. There is a lot of room for that in the world of home studio tech.
  8. Motoi Sakuraba. I'm quite familiar with this composer's works, but for some reason he went all out with the Golden Sun games. Oh well, it's definitely good. I'll maybe work on a remix sometime. maybe. Dunno yet.
  9. O_O O_O O_O O_O O_O O_O okay I'm done. That was hardcore great. Seriously. (the part around 2:40 reminds me of pokemon though) Wow, I really like this mix... a lot. I can't really give any critique becuase this is good enough that it's above my skill level in determining mixing stuff. It does get packed at the end, but I dunno I can hear everything and that's the point. I'd go with a sudden end with that bass drop you hear at the beginning. I think that would be hardcore. EDIT: Okay, listening to it again, I still think its great. I just had to reconcile my awful spellings and sentence fragments.
  10. The problem with this existing is that now I have an image of OCR in my head that will forever effect what I think of this sight from now on. Not really, but hey! I really enjoyed a lot of the pics and stuff. A neat idea to be sure. And kickass guitar. (3chan is my favorite becuase she plays bass. )
  11. you know what, I am totally buying this album. 2 reasons: 1) I need more Mega Ran, becuase the free version of this album is amazing, great flow, story and just general amazing annd 2) I need a few more hip-hop records in my archives. Keep up the good music, becuase god knows that I've listened to splash woman WAY too many times now.
  12. That flute thing isn't vibrato guys. Its flutter tonguing. I'm not entirely sold on it, but then again, it sounds rather appropriate for this style (much like sax growling in rock music) I like the funkyness, the brass sounds rather synthy, and the other strings... meh. I like everything else though, its really nice. The sound effects too. Mixing wise, I think you've got it. I dunno, the flutter tonguing obviously bothers some folks, but I like it. Mixed bag of opinions.
  13. So wait... is this remixing Battle 3? I'm so confused. I like the idea, but its so weird if it is remixing that. Oh well, I want more. Death metal FTW.
  14. I was working on a Lufia 2 track, not this one in particular. not that I'd be averse to remixing it... I just have a lot on my plate right now. What with FFIV stuffs and school. I may as well just jump off a big place.
  15. I became a man, died, reborn, listened to it again, became a man again, died again and came back again as a very, very, very well preserved and cognizant zombie. Then I decided to make a post about how awesome this was. I love SNES sounds too much. The "production" ain't all that bad either.
  16. Interesting you should mention For the Savior. Considering I am working on my own remix of it. We'll see how that progresses. http://www.ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=19725
  17. Listen now... I mistakenly put up the wrong one. I dunno if the vocals are any better but. lol
  18. I like the style. Though I wouldn't consider it semi-heavy 70's prog, probably more like early 70's prog. Because if I were to compare this to Heart of the Sunshine by Yes, this would definitely not be as heavy. This is quite funky, and I like the take you have for it. So hey, nice job! Needs some volume tho. XD Oh yeah, I think this is got great interp, considering it severely deviates from the source. I can hear some Heart influence in that ending. You know the ending needs a bit of work. But hey I like it!
  19. http://cyril.arnoldascher.com/covers/atopasingingmountain2.mp3 Why? Why do I like the soft songs from Chrono Trigger so much? Someday I will finish my currently defunct mix of At the Bottom of Night, but for now, Singing Mountain has caught my ear. Very early wip just some acoustic guitar, strings and bells. Along with the vocals... oh yea the lyrics are thusly: Through all of the ages I feel that I have gone I have not met anyone as beautiful as you And though I know you love me And I believe that I love you I must intervene for the future Even if it takes my life The black wind howls through me as I feel my life slip away But I want you to carry on and Defeat this demon one day... Please don't cry... I know the future is barren And humanity has no hope Technology has turned against them What if there was a chance?? I know you believed in free will and that we had to power to change So keep on with our mission I swear It'll be okay... But atop a singing mountain I saw your face again Tears in your eyes Happiness etched on your face... Your will has given me life All the lives We will save Are worth the centuries In the End We Will be Together once again.. Atop a singing mountain I never thought I'd return But with an egg you hatched potential and now I know of grace I missed you... It's now time to face him To reclaim what is ours our future is not decided by a demon from afar... All this was played live... so yea. Comments on the mix itself, anything that could be added or subtracted, production tips... anything! Thanks! Source Below EDIT: To any one who listened to the first one, its my bad... I accidentally posted the wrong one! HAHA!
  20. IV - V - iv = epicness. No lie, use it for a boss battle, high tempo. Accentuate the thirds or not. You could even go crazy and go IV - V - IV, but that'd work out too happy. All examples are in major key.
  21. Totally not cool man. You should have at least commented on the WIP itself first! >
  22. Erm... I use SONAR. So I dunno if I'd be able to help in that way, the only thing I could do is MIDI compose a bassline or compose a bass line and then send you a .wav. (If I'm not mistaken, MIDI would be the best route to go)
