Lufia I & II: The World Will Know (symphonic rock)
Cyril the Wolf replied to Nekofrog's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Now, what kind of Male vocals are we talking about here? High like... Symphony X or something lower than that? Just need the clarification, because though I have gained confidence in myself as a vocalist, I am still definitely not a tenor. On the other hand, I can do spoken things rather well. Now, I think this mix is a bit too... low, cut below 80hz on that bass so it doesn't interfere too much with the kick. -
Final Fantasy VIII - Eyes on Me Acoustic
Cyril the Wolf replied to jbracks's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
NO! I am doing the bass you sucka! Nah, upright would be better for this track anyway, and since you can play that, you got it. ! Actually, I changed my mind, but still. Hey, I could lay some sax down though, if you want like a sax solo. I'm good at latin stuff. EDIT: I too, dig your track. -
Final Fantasy 7 'Jenova Project APPROVED'
Cyril the Wolf replied to Nekofrog's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
I completely disagree, no offense. But maybe I'm just wrong. I mean... it just doesn't seem upfront. It seems farback some how. Did you scoop it? I mean it just doesn't sound THERE to me. I dunno how else to describe it. EDIT: I guess I just don't like that particular kick sound, apparently a very very subjective thing. -
Final Fantasy 7 'Jenova Project APPROVED'
Cyril the Wolf replied to Nekofrog's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
There is only one problem I have with this... well kinda two, but mostly just one... WHERE IS THE KICK DRUM? I shouldn't have to strain to hear it in the mix, ever, never ever. It sounds really far back and not cool with the huge upfront guitars. Even when its doing blastbeaty stuff it doesn't show up very well, which I think is a problem, myself. Aside from that, I really really like it. -
OCR01770 - Super Metroid "Samus Bubblebath"
Cyril the Wolf replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Just when I think I'm the most awesome ever, I go and listen to Sam's stuff. Simple as that. Haha. Seriously though, so amazing with the way almost everything on this track is live. I was there when this was posted, I think I posted something in the same month... or what going to, but never got around to it. I remember listening to it and being all like "Its not metal, so DOD will be less impressed" but I swear to god, if I can get any of my pieces *stops* Anyway, too much gushing isn't good, but I'm still on my way, I just hope I can get to where Sam's at. -
Umm... I really really like this. A lot. Its pretty great, I dunno if it will pass....... but I dunno, the sample quality is sound... the sounds used complement what you do, the interps good... Just make sure its loud enough compared to other remixes (mastering) and you may have something solid.... ooo, work on that ending... made me want more, instead of giving me closure. Not in the good way either.

Sonic & Knuckles 'Sanctuary of Rock' (Sky Sanctuary Zone)
Cyril the Wolf replied to LITHE's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
I dunno what transient means exactly, but I know what it is... if that makes any sense. Its that "click" that you hear on kick drums... if you really need something exact, go listen to "Before I Forget" by Slipknot, listen for the kick, its really really really really clicky, too much for your track, but experiment to taste. (Opening up the attack on compressors helps) Hmmm.... I dunno, the guitars sound relaly really far off, which is why I attributed it to reverb, but keep working at that. I understand, what you mean about the reverb thing, but look at Tensei-San's suggestion and it could help. That being said, try toning down the reverb on everything and then use a single kind of reverb, like a send or soemthing to have the ability to mix dry and "wet" signals from a pretty intense reverb to make sure things sound clean, but still can be big sounding. Good luck, and I hope I wasn't too confusing. (2:00 AM posts are fun) -
Sonic & Knuckles 'Sanctuary of Rock' (Sky Sanctuary Zone)
Cyril the Wolf replied to LITHE's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Hmm... I have one problem with this. There is way too much reverb on the rhythm guitars, and that's kinda muddying things in my opinion. The leads sound fine to me, but there is way too much reverb on both the rhythm guitars and the drums. I also think the kick could be given more transient attack. Other than that *I* think its solid, but I'm not a J and I certainly don't have the standards of some other ReMixers who come around to review WIP's. But that being said, if I notice that there is something wrong with production, it probably does need some looking into. -
Chrono Trigger 'Corridors of Time' (yet another one)
Cyril the Wolf replied to uranai's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
I like the way this plays out. It sounds pretty sweet, and I like that there is some interp (always important) I have a few issues with it on the whole. 1) More rhythmic variation leading up to that epical thing around 2 minute mark. You could even change up the sequence in the background (think Baba O' Riley when changing up that, its possible to do it well) 2) I think the mixing is okay, I'm not gonna relist what you think is wrong with it, but I think I hear some Compression pump on there. I actually DON'T know how to fix that, but I think you can loosesn up your comp there. 3) Maybe a more free flowing guitar solo? Like break it down and have the guitar do some funky stuff. That would really break up the source, and you'd probably have a really good ReMix on your hands. -
Final Fantasy 5 'The Battle with Exdeath'
Cyril the Wolf replied to Cyril the Wolf's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Mostly due to the fact this was just replyed to so late. I have some news regarding ExDeath. It's going on hiatus for a bit. I have some more ReMix ideas that are just more fully formed and feasible as well as work for a project to do, so I will probably not update this for a good long time. When I do, I'll probably have all sorts of kickass gear that will make it rock. -
I think the kick is too loud, and there is a TINY bit of digital distortion in the beginning for some reason. Its quite a lot brighter and some people may dislike that. Other than that, I don't really have much of a problem with it. That buildup is still killer though.

Wow. Hotness. I wanna bang it. /end quote Anyway, sweet job. I enjoy this a lot. -

Though LOL is not as much becuase i tend to actually use LOL on AIM, but before it was always haha. THe only difference between me in real life and the me on the internet is the amount of smiling I do.

Lufia & The Fortress of Doom 'Decerto Sacrificium'
Cyril the Wolf replied to crypto_magnum's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Okay, so I'm gonna go with stuff as I hear it. First: Yes, it's a bit too quiet, even when it gets to the bigger section it still needs to be brought up some. The drums sound mechanical. Yeah. The piano though, I think is quite well done, you could try to make it more realistic, but I dunno how you'd do that. sorry Right after the piano solo, I love the transition. It rules. I think that the synth solo could come up by 1 or 2 dB but not much more than that, and I did enjoy it so it's good. Definitely change those drums because they're far too mechanical for a lot of the stuff you have going. Also, in the beginning (second listen) it seems like your arpeggios get in the way of the lead, so... change the arpeggio sound or have it round pan so it barely ever hits the center. You could also try to put the right hand of the organ on one side and the left (bass) on the other. Though you'll have to be careful when putting strong bass instruments on one side or the other because nothing is more annoying with headphones on than having huge bass in one ear and almost nothing in the other. That's all I got. I think there is enough valid interp here, myself, but I dunno I'm no expert. But the production issues I think I've done the best I can. Okay, on second listen, don't turn up the synth solo. Does this sound like Flying Battery Zone at all to you? haha Just a few parts do for some reason. -

Hot dog. I enjoyed this game too much until 3 this morning (then promptly got up 3 hours later for school, ah the joys) anyway, great remix. Pretty epic if I do say so myself.

Chrono Trigger 'Factory Ruins' (attempt #2)
Cyril the Wolf replied to HoboKa's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Hmm. I really like the way this is interpreted. I dunno if it would make OCR, but I can still make some suggestions as far as production goes. The snare. I dunno I think the snare sticks out a bit. Automate to make it less... obtrusive during the intro. Also, there seems to be a lot of mud, probably the result of reverb. I think if the bass is a bit dryer I would be able to actually hear it. The layering at 2:05 is really cool. A little clarity on the part of some of the instruments would lend itself to being better. This being said, I am a bass player so I have very specific bass ideas in mind, but take that one with a grain of salt. Try it, but don't take it as law. I like the ideas though. The snare works later in the song.... meh maybe I'm just being picky. Solid mix IMHO. -
Personally, I like to take a lot of time on each part. I find that if I don't I'll always listen back and hear things I could improve upon, technical or just like "a nice little flute thing could HAVE gone there!" and such. I'm not always like that, but that's what I tend to prepare for DOD free months quite in advance. I know that doesn't seem fair, but that makes me improve my stuff over long periods of time. But, though it doesn't seem fair I never win. When I can improve to the point where me spending the amount of time bands spend on songs for pro albums produces amazing stuff, then I can shorten the process.

Hmm I should have PMed, my bad, I will shortly, however I have just been experimenting with Rydia's theme on my bass guitar and I have found it works rather well with natural harmonics. That said, I think I'd prefer rydia's theme at this point, because I KNOW what I'd do for good old Zeromus, but what would YOU do?

I saw this, FFIV my interest piqued... then I was looking through tracks not done, and I saw the final battle hadn't been touched. I double checked to ensure I wasn't imagining things, and then well there it was. My question is... is there still time to join. I can usually get WIPs into a good working form quite quickly. So... there we have it. I'm not gonna start quite yet but I have 25 days, which is more then enough. to get a final WIP. Finishing it, mastering and mixing takes a bit.

Song Title: Amorous Fatalism Running Time: 3:54 Genre: Death Metal (Any suggestions for this? I hate categorizing myself.) Inspiration: The final scenes toward the end of Grandia. Link: http://cyril.arnoldascher.com/metal/amorousfatalism(m).mp3 Any comments on mixing, vocals and such are welcome. If there are any comments on the lack of high end with the vocals, its becuase I a relatively poor recording set up, and I'm not fond of boosting high frequencies too much becuase it can result in crap. I'll work on that. Also, my clean singing may or may not be tonally to your taste, but if you could comment on the precision of the singing, for those vocalists here, I would be most appreciative. Also, any comments on drum samples are also unnecessary, as the samples there are the best that I had at the time making it and have since gotten better samples and mixing techniques. I am just curious if there are any other ideas, and possibly any mastering problems. Lyrics: (First Verse) You've journeyed for so long, With endless adventures. But now the girl that you love, Is going to die today! You trip and fall in the mud, You are lost in the flood! You feel hopelessness in your mind, But if you look around you'll find... (Chorus) You're not alone in this task at hand. Those friends you met from every land Will guide you to where you belong, And then you'll hear her song... Again... (Bridge) You've got the stuff to win the fight! Your right to the light is now in sight! She's in the spot with evil all around, The sounds of those hounds just bring her down. You jump right in and save the day. You slay while you pray it'll be okay. Together you're gonna change the world. Your girl is unfurled, now attack! There is only one power that can beat the greed, It's the power to protect the ones in need. And you can protect her, And she can protect you. (x2 (Breakdown) But its not the end until you defeat the beast, (looped) NOW! (Last Chorus) You're not alone in this task at hand (As you stand) She and you are saviors of man! (save the land) Evil is back where it belongs (long gone) And now she sings her song, And so she sings her song, Again! (Outro) You've got The power of love is unity! The power of love is life! Thank you in advance.
