Honestly the composition of this is pretty rad! Cool riff, cool lead, a little repetitive at first, but I mean that's pretty chill considering how you use the key change and pads to change things up. Yea to be honest the biggest issue is that the composition is sweet but the sounds are terrifyingly off for this sort of piece. The distortion is really overtone-ridden. I'm not sure what sort of samples you are using but since they sound like they are pre-distorted. If you could take some time and program some "errors" in the playing it'd help, but also some velocity changes. I would suggest trying to get the guitar sound through an amp sim, and try a clean guitar sound that is really "dead* sounding without a lot of overtones... it helps the distortion. I mean if it sounds a little mechanical that can still be fine, but the biggest problem with sampled guitars is that it ends up sounding super fake because it's just like... straight distortion and the overtones don't get smoothed out by some kind of speaker sim.

Except I sort of took an OCR-esque approach to it.

I could post a lot of solos from Lifeson (Limelight comes to mind) But ugh the solo from La Villa Strangiato always hits me in the soul.

I push it up enough so that if someone was listening to a CD of my stuff and some other rock band the difference wouldn't be *too* noticeable. I my RMS usually ends up around -10 and that's fine enough for me. Probably too loud for most.

I write ABAB but then like... make the As super different from each other if that makes sense. Like same chord progression but different rhythm etc. In fact most orchestral music does this anyway where it's A B A C A D but like the As are like A1 B A2 C... etc. If that makes any sense? It works for me pretty well, doing that has helped me break structure. As has through-composing.

Gonna throw my two cents in as well... I'm by no means *popular* but I gotta say that like, though I know I lose fans and then do polarizing stuff like My Little Pony related music w/e my fanbase has kept growing steadily and not too many people have left. In fact most people tell me they can look past the pony because they enjoy that I'm not afraid to poof around with genres and I just do what I do to make people jam out. Honestly, keeping a singular identity and just putting as much quality content out there is going to draw even more people, then pretentious people can brag about how diverse you are to others.

Idk my fans are supportive of just about whatever the bloody hell I release. I mean it helps that I sing on almost everything I do and people have to like my voice to be a fan :3

So, I ate like shit while I was away doing convention appearances and stuff. But I'm back and eating 300-400 calories a meal!

My exercise has slagged off. Lost 9 pounds thus far though! Wooo! I've been counting my calories, though my wife screwed up her knee so there's been a lot more takeout lately due to time between taking her to the doctors for eval etc. I did have to walk 3 miles on sunday to get her car. I still ache a little from that. New goal: be able to walk 3 miles with no problem. Then move up to jogging it with no problem.

I have one album that's not the loudest ever but still decent... Nightmare by Avenged Sevenfold. Mixing wise I typically follow older albums, but Nightmare is my mastering measure. Then I go and listen to something stupid like a American Capitalist by Five Finger Death Punch and I gag myself because of how overlayered and squashed it is.

I mostly do metal and play guitar but I've got a few posts so I'd love to help someone up and coming out by showing them arranging and such (and playing guitar/bass for them) I'm fairly available through skype over the next few weeks and plan to be more of a "mentor" than actively laying down tracks but I can definitely help out in that regard and give ideas.

Yea a Sunday deadline would be a lot better. I found myself with very little time and having to cram all my work into 4 hours on Saturday for my round 2 track. Thank you Darren for doing a really cool idea. I hope to see more in the future.
