I've challenged my lazy-ass self to create a full song in just a week straight, and so far I've completed about one day's worth of work. Link: http://www.tindeck.com/listen/lldi And yes, I will be updating every day. DAY 2: http://www.tindeck.com/listen/jcpv Main thing I did was finish/phatten up the drums. I also played around with some levels and added some extra percussion. The bass I was unsure about because I didn't want just a straight sub but after about, 4 or 5 different patches I finally found a combination I like; not too rough but not too dull. The vocals were just chopped up segments of various recordings my neighbor did and I like the added layer to it all. Overall I'm starting to feel the track coming together despite the rough mixing. DAY 3/4: http://www.tindeck.com/listen/fzcl I didn't get an update in yesterday because I got home at about 3:40, and went to bed at about 5:30-6:00. Today, I did quite a bit mainly getting the general layout of the track in place. The track length is probably as long as it'll ever be, but there are definitely sketchy elements and the next few days is the boring part as I gradually smooth the edges, primarily on transitions. There's still a couple major elements still probably to come but this is where the process becomes more annoying than anything.

Help me identify this crazy sound
The Vagrance replied to Rico's topic in Music Composition & Production
Step 1. Add saw Step 2. Add more saw Step 3. Add even more saw Step 4. Add some saw an octave up (+12 semitones) Step 5. Play around with tuning of some saw waves (making some detuned, giving it a fatter, "chorused" effect), including automating it Step 6. Automate the volume of the saw wave(s) an octave up -

I actually can't stand the standard FL plugins, exceptions being the Parametric EQ 2, the blood overdrive (which I'm falling out of love with gradually), and the free filter. A lot of their effects are kind of cheap and not particularly useful in a master bus, and few to none of them I would say are better than any other generic plugins you get with any sequencer. I don't want this to turn into another FL vs. other sequencers thread but I'd advise against buying, specifically, FL plugins. They're not terrible but certainly not worth $100, especially when you can get a nice-ass EQ and compressor for that money. -

This guy speaks the truth. In addition, LISTEN to your mix on every pair of headphones, speakers, etc. you can. Never be "satisfied" with a mix until after a day or two since you last edited your mix, you may catch something you didn't from before. In terms of pricey hardware/software, don't worry TOO much about it. I use Ableton and most of the plugins on it are pretty nice and will always do the job, but if you're not completely satisfied, look at Voxengo plugins; they're relatively cheap but a good value. Also, some great special-use are made by Stillwell Audio, which when used correctly can give your mix an interesting edge. That said, if you consider throwing money down then ALWAYS play around with a cracked/demo copy, the moralities of piracy are tricky but if you feel morally fine with using a cracked copy to get a feel for whether or not you want to use something then do so; I convinced myself to not get Waves products by doing this. -
http://video.aol.jp/video-detail/mega-man-x-chill-penguin-remix/610934337 I think I found one thanks to the amazing powers of "google" and "90 seconds" EDIT: Also found http://homepage2.nifty.com/worldout/music/thr.html but I can't read Japanese. EDIT 2: Ok, I'm pretty sure I didn't find it but surely one of those will produce a lead of some kind?

My blog: reccej.net Not much on it but I plan on adding stuff soon.

Yeah, we're all 18 with the exception of the drummer who is 16 (and kinda sick). Nashville has a nice, cozy underground scene filled with late high schoolers and 20-somethings so we all bounce ideas off of them musically, which is a pretty cool scene to be in. I listened to Apartment 26 and they're a bit too metal for my tastes, really we're coming at this from more of a Pop-punk, post-hardcore style, like if Brand New had a baby with At the Drive-In and that child grew up to be a robot.

I'm the keyboard player for this group and we're working on releasing our first EP. This is the song that'll probably end the EP if we can all agree to it. Its not completely mixed yet (primarily because we just recorded new parts to this song on Friday and I'm lazy) but enjoy; I figure it'll be a nice break from the typical onslaught of electronic, metal, and orchestra that comprises this site. http://www.tindeck.com/listen/neor

Possible OCR soundtrack project for a game I'm working on
The Vagrance replied to FireSlash's topic in Recruit & Collaborate!
I would like to mention that I've already started on the boss theme for the Warzone Spaceship... -
Part of the reason is that a good number of tracks on this site can't really be conformed to one genre, especially with how many tracks kinda glide in between techno and trance, not to mention the fact that most OCR tracks don't conform to song structures that are common in most of said genres.

Anyone else kinda getting excited for this movie? I liked the book when I was a kid and this movie looks like it'll be pretty faithful in its tone and presentation. Trailer: http://www.traileraddict.com/trailer/where-the-wild-things-are/trailer

Exact same thought process, except for a select few remixers where its an immediate download.

Sarcasm is hard enough to communicate over the internet, yet alone sarcasm with serious undertones.
-
No, that was on Fashion Nugget.
-
Ok, well I actually wasn't a giant fan of FoC anyway :/
-
Yeah but initially it wasn't and its rarely seen on "Best CDs of the 80s" lists, and most people are only familiar with Devo as "that band that does 'Whip It'"
-
If we're going across albums then I want to mention Devo - Q: Are We Human A: We Are Devo!!, because that album is damn near brilliant but largely unrecognized, probably because "Whip It" isn't on it.
-
Blur - Blur Primarily because most people know this group from their single Song 2 (I like some of their other albums better and this is slightly biased considering their one of my favorite bands) CAKE - Prolonging the Magic The lead single "Never There" is one of the best tracks off of the album, but the rest is just so good too, one of my favs. This album can also be substituted with CAKE's Fashion Nugget because "The Distance" overshadowed the whole thing as well. Gnarls Barkley - St. Elsewhere The entire album was fantastic but all most people have from it is "Crazy"

Argh, so do I, I meant Slim Thug, while I was writing that post I was actually thinking of Ratatat's remix of "Three Kings" which had Bun B on it.

Underground rap seems to never be right for remixing, yet trap rappers fare incredibly well; case and point Slim Thug and Clipse faring way better than the rest. That said, I'm not really digging this too much, relying too much on a gimmick as opposed to...listenability.
