  1. Horses for courses, though I will say that FLStudio has the best piano roll out there (trailed closely by Sonar). I've found programming drums in Ableton a joy now though when using the impulse, just because of how much power is in the device; though the drum rack is that much more godly. Also, the folks at Cakewalk completely ripped off the step sequencer of FLStudio in Sonar 7 (or maybe its 8, iono).
  2. I've been loving Ableton for some time, and I can't wait for this version, huge improvement overall. They took all of my favorite features from Pro Tools and added them in, and I'm especially glad to see that they finally rounded out all of the included effects, now there's very little I need an external VST for (especially considering the built-in effects and amazing high-quality). Collision looks super tight, especially as easy it was to get some wicked sounds out of Tension and Electric. The new Operator looks mighty useful as well. But probably my favorite thing is how easy it is to share files with others now! Took someone long enough! I'm going to college next year and a lot of my friends (including my bandmates) are being convinced (by watching me using it) to get Ableton and this is the perfect way to keep in touch with them. MaxforLive looks tight as hell, like a less CPU-intensive, more well-integrated and thought-out Reaktor. Granted, it won't be able to do synthesis but its a nice touch, especially in combo with the new community aspect they're pushing. That new controller is also pretty ballin'. I've been holding off on getting a pad controller but this one may have just sold me. Overall I'm psyched, I can't wait for this new version. Its like they took the best parts of different sequencers (Reaper, Pro Tools) and integrated them into the already handy Ableton set-up. EDIT: NEVER MIND I LIED GROUPS CAN BE COLOURED OH HELL YES
  3. Funny you say that considering I created this topic partially because I'm in love with the Blood Brothers
  4. EGM was one of the few video game resources I trust; really now all that I'm left with is Kotaku.
  5. Well really I wouldn't mind seeing any post-punk (or punk for that matter) either, I kind of tacked that on at the end though. But yeah, I'd love to see some punk as well, really anything thats not the norm here on OCR because there are some talented dudes but I'd like to hear some variety.
  6. Yeah, I'm unsure about it as well and surely it'd have be watered down slightly (quite unfortunately) but depending on the source I think its easily possible.
  7. Not doubting the ability of any of the more rockin' remixers (Sixto, Fishy, Snapple) but I'm sick of hearing rock video game remixes that are metal or prog. I want to hear something to thrash around to, and post-hardcore is remarkably unrepresented as far as I can tell, especially that with vocals. Maybe its because the two scenes are far apart but I'm sure its possible. Some examples for what I'm looking for: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TpdZMuDFEt0 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sqCfQtBClro Really more rock remixes with vocals in general would be nice but I'd especially like it if they went in this direction. I'd love to do it myself but I have a crappy voice and I'm not terribly proficient in any instrument.
  8. http://www.ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=20232 The Metroid Remix is nearing its completion, the thread above is where I'm posting the latest status.
  9. Worked on it some more today, posted up the newest version. Needs a few embellishments here and there and an ending but for the most part the arrangement is done.
  10. That was kind of the idea, to drop out the source before going into the house section then bring everything back in. Really this track started out as a house mix so I guess its all coming full circle.
  11. I feel like a weakass punk kid because of how much I like this band.
  12. I'm interested in the Mysterious Wood theme, though I don't have a WIP or a sketch or anything, just a little elbow grease and a dream...
  13. 0:00-0:28 I like that arp synth a lot, sounds nice and fat. The scratching samples were a wee-bit cheesy for the rest of the song though, but that could just be me. 0:28-0:43 Sounds good but that shakuwhatever doesn't really fit. The entire thing feels mechanical with the crazy fast hats and different synths going on left and right, then there's this random Japanese instrument in the middle of the mix. Keep it if you want as its probably not enough to kill the mix but it seems odd and doesn't really fit. 0:43-2:40 Not much to say about this section because I like it a lot. Good work on it. 2:40-3:37 I see what you mean by it getting dubby. It sounds all right but it'd be kinda cool if like, all of the synths slowed down as well as being pitched lower as it goes into the section or something. Everything is hyperactive before the section and the synth patterns and such don't seem to change much when the tempo is halved which kills the mood a bit. Try extenuating the half-tempo section a bit more. I like it though, good stuff.
  14. Put in a lot of work over the night, so I have a new version. If you'll notice, this'll turn into a housish thing because I don't know how to make Dubstep. Have a listen-see. Link: http://www.tindeck.com/audio/my/kgft/Metroid-Fusion-RMX And JustChris, I'll check it out in a second, although I must mention I'm not a huge dubstep fan. I'm kinda fiddling around with it to see what the fuss is about but its not as much fun as DnB.
  15. According to this bot Spirit was a pretty good movie.
  16. WOT?! I quite liked that movie, granted it wasn't a great piece of art but it was a nice feel-good movie by people who are genuine about what they do.
  17. The arrangement is for the most part done now, but if anyone has any suggestions I'd love to hear 'em. There are a couple of rough spots mixing-wise that I'll get to at some other point and time. EDIT: Version 4 (Arrangement is finished!): http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?zkdwdjq2jiw SOURCE:
  18. Thats cool then, keep it if you like it. I will say I'm anxious to hear an updated version of this.
  19. Listening to the new WIP of a WIP.......yeah As Rozo said, the kick is a little clicky, I don't necessarily think it should be phatter either as it might come off too heavy, but a little bit of EQ work might be beneficial. That said, its not a dealbreaker by any means. That saw in the beginning still has a weird reverb. You may want to try automating the reverb to give it a more open feel (like a plate setting) during the intro, then let it pass dry for whenever you want it in the background...iono, these are just ideas. I like the main section a bit more, fits a bit more naturally, but as an idea think you should let the little FX that you end this WIP with go on for like, 1 bar, then drop in the main section again only with 16th note hats and another instrument playing the counter melody.
  20. Ok, I'll briefly explain my situation. I successfully dual-booted my machine, however, I set my Windows XP partition too small (4GB) so I resized it with partition magic. Unfortunately when I did this, it messed with my Windows XP install and I had to repair my XP installation. After I do that though, it won't allow me to dual-boot into Vista anymore. When I repair my Vista install, it gives off the appearance of being able to dual-boot by listing both "Windows Vista" and "Previous Version of Windows" (something like that) but when I click "Previous Version" it gives me an error telling me to repair my XP install. I did so and now I can't dual-boot into Vista and I'm reluctant to repair my Vista install. I use XP for all of my audio programs and I use a 64-bit version of Vista for gaming and if I want to jam out to iTunes or something. Any help with this issue?
  21. Really? Granted, there's probably more TOTAL software out for Windows but the quality plug-ins are generally both Mac/PC, and don't forget boot-camp. That said, coming from someone who owns both (Macbook Pro & a producing PC), don't base the decision entirely on OS. Think about other things the computer can potentially be used for and base your decision off of that. If you want a desktop though, I'd be hard-pressed to not recommend a Windows machine, simply because of how cheap they are to build. Also, don't even think about going Linux for audio, you'll probably run into more problems than privileges.
