  1. Pretty good but truth be told the mastering seems off. The drums are really loud and the melody really isn't as fleshed out as it should be and in the end it sounds really kind of empty. Also, you really ought to try out some new drum sounds because you use those in a lot of your songs. Not trying to be all negative, the melody is really nice and its very well produced, but it doesn't seem as polished as it should be.
  2. Techincally, its impossible, but you can get really close through EQ. It'll take a long time and a really powerful EQ but thats the best you're gonna get without an acapella.
  3. Hopefully, I was planning on bumping this as well, personally I'm getting tired of working on it. Then again I guess Noisia worked for 6 months just on one tune so 4 months isn't that bad.
  4. Is there any particular reason why or is it just because they're Pro Tools and Nuendo. I know I wouldn't use Nuendo, but that's because it's basically just Cubase with more features, and I don't like Cubase. Just seems a little stupid to vow to never used something you've never tried out. It just seems foolish to blow that much money on that kind of software. If I started up a studio then that would be the only reason, but for what I plan to do, Sonar will get me there fine. Also, Sonar 6 is gonna be the balls. That vintage compressor/EQ/toaster thing looks sexy, and its made by the same people who do a line of top-notch effects along with a freeware line of effects. The fact that Cakewalk bought out my favorite synth designer (rgc:audio) means that they pretty much own my soul by now.
  5. For real life instruments, there are very few good VSTi's that aren't sample based, and the only ones I can think of that aren't are the B4-II (Which is a B3 drawbar organ simulator) and I think Akoustik Piano (also made by NI, piano simulator obviously) also is not sample based. If you need a good trumpet sound you can always grab soundfonts, but most of the free ones aren't exactly great quality. If you really need a trumpet track you can always check the live performer's thread or you can check out Kontakt II, which is a top-notch sampler (its also my favorite VST to use, resampling with it is tha biznuss) that comes with quite a variety of samples and the ability to get plenty of other sample packs.
  6. Snappleman makes a very convincing argument, don't we all hate fat chicks?
  7. I've never goitten my hands on Pro Tools but I've made a pledge to myself to never use it nor Nuendo. Also, lately I've really started to dislike Reason because its audio quality is really crappy whenever you export audio, I dunno why but its sound engine just muddies things up :/, good thing it works like a charm ReWired.
  8. Basically, all the TC is going to get are answers like mine and this. Whenever you get into Cubase/Sonar/Logic range of sequencers, its all just personal preference and what works best for you, nab the demo for all mid-range sequencers you can and just see which workflow works best.
  9. I use Cakewalk Sonar as well and I must say I absolutelyu love it, and the only problems I've had with it are going to be fixed with the coming of Sonar 6. It can basically do everything Cubase and Logic can do, its a very nice sequencer.
  10. Best CPU-saving type: Bouncing in other words, if you have a section/instrument that you're completely done with, convert each different group to audio, then play the audio tracks, it takes up a lot less CPU than a whole bunch of VSTi's and effects. Aside from that, go to the highest bufferyou can.
  11. I'm not saying I don't believe you. I'm saying that I don't think his processor's speed is the problem. Maybe the RAM isn't his problem, but since my 1.7 GHz can run 10 samples with Garage Band, I can't imagine that the processing speed is the problem, considering his is twice as fast as mine. ARRRRGH! I am SICK AND TIRED of seeing this crap.... He didn't specify if he was on Mac or PC. Also, you aren't specifying whether you are using a powerpc mac or a macinteltosh (though based on your clock speed, I'm assuming the latter). That matters A TON in terms of CPU clock speed. It's called the Megahertz Myth, and you can thank intel for it for advertising clock spped primarilly as their benchmark. PowerPCs perform A LOT differently at lower clock speeds than pentiums. PowerPC chips run at lower clock speeds than pentiums for the same performance, though their performance celing turned out to be significantly lower than the pentium's, hence Apple's switch. As the previous poster said, that comparison could potentially be apples to oranges. I SEE WHAT YOU DID THAR
  12. If all you have is a Yamaha PSR it probably won't cut it. The only case where a single synth could ge the job done well that I can think of (piano remixes aside) would be with a: Alesis Andromeda Access Virus Korg Radias Nord Lead Novation Supernova All of which will cost you around $1000, and even then that'd barely cut it. Get yourself a decent sequencer (FLStudio, Sonar, Cubase, Logic, whatever, try out the demos to see which you like the best) and start experimenting, remember, no one starts off making great remixes.
  13. Big ups to CHz, I guess it is really October Mermaid, makes a lot less sense but then again it sounds like one of those other song titles that makes no sense, like "Building Steam With a Grain of Salt" or "Flaming June".
  14. Damn, where'd all the DnB pop up from all of the sudden?! VG Massif :slayer: Interesting drumwork, the actual arrangement rarely hits DnB style instead staying more around Trip-Hop style rather than DnB, so calling this DnB isn't really right, its more Trip-Hop than anything. That aside, the drums are nice but get old after time, they stand out too much to be as repetitive as they are without things just getting old, try switching between drum "sets" or "glitching" up your arrangement. As for melodies and stuff, they seem nice but overall this piece may need a bit more variation, good start though.
  15. Ok, I sent it back over to JustChris for him to work on it, simply put I couldn't get to the ending, I'm pooped on this remix, I am ancius to get this done as well as I think this remix has been going on for about 4 months for me (3 months as a collab)
  16. The super mix thing aside though, we still plan to make this a quality site project that many people can enjoy and that keeps the quality that OCR is known for.
  17. The Shure 57/58 are standards in studois, simply because they put out a decent sound but are extremely rugged and extremely cheap. If you're going to do something like an all vocal mix I highly reccomend you getting something higher up, like a Rode N1TA or N2TA, thoser mics produce a much better sound quality (but aren't quite as rugged or versatile and should be treated with care). Aside form that, I haven't really worked with mics much.
  18. As much as I hate to go against the pretzel here, if you can find it at musicians friend or sweetwater or something snatch it up.
  19. As long as you get the full version and not the upgrade, you'll be fine, the full version was the first NI thing I bought, but probably not the last
  20. Just listened to an older version of this remix, my god how far its come. Just FYI I'm up to the section after the second intro thing, but I'm not totally done with the second intro thing as I accidently deleted the pattern for it at some point (not sure when though). Thanks for the love Mustin
  21. The simplest way of putting it: Have you ever heard a DJ Mix? If not, download one, and hear how it sounds, the "super mix" is essentially going to be a DJ mix full of remixes from the project. If you don't get it, then just wait until it comes out.
  22. Despite not commenting I've been watching this remix for a while and I kmust say its turning out really, really well. I'm terrible at giving out suggestions for remixes like this but nice work, I love it.
  23. Meh, minor nitpick but its not Drums and Bass, its just Drum and Bass, or more appropraitely DnB, either way I must say I'm slightly flattered to be the example for the project.
