Do you guys recreate the song first?
avaris replied to Incronaut's topic in Music Composition & Production
Nope. I generally listen to the source and come up with some compositional ideas first and try to work those out. Or sometimes I just have fun and experiment with a source. -
Hey sorry dude. We'll link up the website once the project is released on OCR. Thank you for your interest!

Good news website is done! Head on over to the project forums to check it out. Now for it to be 100% done we need everyone's bios and song descriptions. (Check out ziwtra's songs for an example of the "short song description") Also more good news. Ziwtra has finished both of his tracks. As soon as we get the rest of the finished tracks in we can release this project. Right now we have 14 finished tracks. I would like to have all tracks completed by December 1st. Keep it up dudes!

My favorite compo...ever. It'll be crazy if we can get the same type of quality entries that we got last year. -
OCR01759 - Donkey Kong Country "Lost in Jungle"
avaris replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Lovely. The simplicity of the mix is excellent, it's not easy to carry a song with so few elements. The piano performance was def the highlight. Excellent performance. My gripes would prob be with the psytrance pizzicato sounds just bc they feel so vastly different from the emotive piano playing. I think the contrast in sounds is a lil too much in that respect. -
Get mine on Wednesday too. Excellent sound choice for the demo Jimmy! There are so many things in this synth that just WAY TOO AWESOME not to play around with. The harmonia feature looks very interesting.

OCR01756 - Final Fantasy V "The Heroes Emerge"
avaris replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Wat a non-project piece from Nutritious!? Per usual the orchestra and sound quality are great. Very film score-esque in a good way. The saxaphone was a nice creative choice and def added something unique to the piece. Well done chap! -
Sweetness!

Recommend soc some PS2 games [or hook him up with some]
avaris replied to OverCoat's topic in General Discussion
Zone of Enders 2nd Runner is a must for big robot. The first one is OK but not great. Tales of the Abyss great RPG with a fighting game style battle system. -
OCR01747 - Super Metroid "Zebes Rising"
avaris replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Def a creative mix. Some ncie sound choices and blending of styles. I really liked how the track continued to overall but never felt predictable in its presentation. Some more reverb on background elements would have given the mix a better ambience and space to exploit. I could def get lost in this mix and set it on repeat working at night. Good stuff dude! -
He got me too. Zeromus was incredibly easy. I'll only used the counter attack and level up augments as well. Just play it safe and you'll beat him in no time. Buying a couple Fuma Shurikens alwats helps as well! Did anyone get the crystal sword yet?

any daws that do pitch to midi editing for composing?
avaris replied to Lunahorum's topic in Music Composition & Production
I know for sure at least Logic, Sonar, and FL Studio can do this. Logic it is built in to the audio editor. FL Studio can do it with SliceX and I think Edison does it too. Sonar can do it with the V-Vocal. -
Helix is another rather new freeware synth to check out. For a similar sound from other payware synths check out: Rob Papen Predator ~$150 Lennar Digital Sylenth1 ~129 Euros Cakewalk z3ta+ ~$99 ReFX Vanguard ~$89 Tone2 Firebird+ ~$79 (Poizone is listed at $79 at Image-Line's site right now)

Really enjoying this track. Xenosphere is def one of my all time favs on OCR so this automatically gets two thumbs up. The vocals and sound design really help carry the song and immerse into an excellent atmosphere. Maridia isn't exactly the greatest source in the world to base a remix of off. It had some good ambience through minimalism. This mix basically took the good points about the source and makes them 10x better. One of my fav pixie vocal performances thus far too! The hooks in the melody were awesome. Great stuff dude and dudette!

OCR01738 - Sonic 3D Blast (SAT) "Day & Night"
avaris replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Awesome acoustic guitar sequencing. Always paints a nice soundscape when done with some attention to detail. The RnB and Hip Hop influences really make this a relaxing and chill track to vibe. The synth lead reminds me of some mid 90's west coast hip hop sogs. 2:04 with the ethnic synth design was my favorite part. Per usual good stuff dude!
