You can do it man. I'm going through a similar time with learning production values. I hate bothering with production at all. I just want to write my song and be done with it. But I'm thinking that I don't want to ALWAYS have to collaborate everytime I wanna make a mix. So I'm taking my freaking long sweet time trying to learn all that I can. The hardest part is not having the best equipment or money. There's a chance that it could be true but I'd hate to think that there's no way I could make a passable mix with my current stuff. So I'm gonna try and garner some skills around here and see how good I can make my current stuff sound. It's HARD yo! Let's do it together!

Speaking of Final Fantasy VII...
The Legendary Zoltan replied to SwordBreaker's topic in General Discussion
I too am all excited about a remake, but it's like Injin says, even if it is on the way it won't arrive for 500 more years or so. So we might as well not get TOO excited right now. Actually I would prefer a Chrono Trigger and Xenogears remake before FF7. But that's just me. -
Chiptune metal band - Electro Static Discharge
The Legendary Zoltan replied to Spamtron's topic in General Discussion
The deathiest metaller in OCR (That's me ) says that this is pretty dang cool. A concert of this would definitely be fun to go to. The guitars and drums even sound kinda 8-bit too. How the heck did you do that? Allow me to throw in my two cents. These songs would be pretty boring to me if it those chiptune parts weren't riding on top of it the whole time. The guitar parts are just not interesting as far as metal goes. But this is definitely cool overall! -
What can I say? It's definitely a bad ass remix of a bad ass theme song for a bad ass bad guy. Remember that when kids say bad they really mean good. Hahaha. I definitely liked the arrangement. The solo at the end was cool. Like Tensei san, I too would have liked to see the chorus parts changed up a lot more. And I would have liked to hear some insane tenor dudes belting it out as loudly as they could. Hahaha. It's too bad I don't have my own choir. I want to hear the name Sephiroth used over and over again in a fugue where it sounds like a battle between the Soprano, Alto, Tenor, and Bass. Hahaha. Those are just my crazy ideas though. This is a good ass remix. Thank you.

Should sephfire change his handle?
The Legendary Zoltan replied to sephfire's topic in General Discussion
WAAAAHAAAHAHAA. That was a good one. I've never been the type to go tell anyone to do anything they don't wanna do. So if you wanna change it, then go ahead. As long as you're happy, I'm happy. It's like Obama said in his speech at the 2004 Democratic Convention (I think that's what the event was). "If there is a child on the South side of Chicago who can't read, that matters to me even if it's not my child. If there's a senior citizen named Sephfire who can't change his handle just because everybody doesn't want him to, that threatens my civil liberties." Hahaha. Do what you like man. -
Hey, Fishy. Yes I will be interested in your drums, but I wanna finish the arrangement all the way first. Unfortunately, turning this happy-ass song into something a little more harsh is not coming along as smoothly as I hoped it would. So give me more time. Sorry and thanks.

OCR01601 - Guilty Gear X2 "Destroy Movements"
The Legendary Zoltan replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I don't know if I'm aloud to post a reply to a review in the review forums or not, but I'll go ahead and do it and see what happens. James George, dude, your production job was totally sweet in my opinion. While it indeed lost some heaviness, you don't have to apologize, man. It never would have been passed without you. And yeah, I thought it was pretty cool how it went from freaking quiet to pretty dang loud. It's that OCR Pop factor. Tavernero, thanks, man. I too love playing Guilty Gear and Millia is one of my favorite characters and has one of my favorite themes. I'm happy that you approve. -
I'm willing to make a permanent trade with a couple of games I've got. It's Zone of the Enders and Robotech: Battlecry. I know that Robotech is already a 5-dollar game, but still, if there's someone out there who really likes it, and you've got a game that I like, then let's make a trade. You can get Zone of the Enders and Robotech: Battlecry for just one game in return. Anybody have something they'd be willing to trade? I live in Japan, but don't worry, these are the American versions of the games. I brought my PS2 with me.
-
I'm not sure what "Tales of DRM" is but I'm talking about the original Tales of Destiny which came out on PS1 in America, and they remade that game for PS2. I've never found an English version of that game on any websites yet so I'm assuming it's not going overseas. There are a lot of Tales fans out there so a PS2 version of Tales of Destiny seems like something that they would care about. I know I flipped out when I saw it. Hahaha. Ok, man, you need to relax and read my other post yo. Come on. This is the 21st century. Can't a guy make a stereotype about all Americans without people getting upset? Besides, this an American-made site with American moderators and I'm an American posting on it. So all the B.S. cancels out anyway. Hahaha. Oh man! That's a good one. Thanks for defending me and all, but when I said I had lived in America for 24 years, I meant that I was born and raised there and lived there until the age of 24. LOL. I'm American too, dude. Hahaha. Well, I already acknowledged that my generalization was inappropriate WAY BACK on the 1st page or so (I guess nobody read it. (God-damn Americans. (I hope that doesn't start anything.))), so I don't need to apologize for that. But I WILL apologize for turning everyone away from the topic of this forum. So, sorry about that. Can we stop talking about this now?

Yeah, Tensei. I meant two recordings to layer, not copying and pasting the same recording. OK, OA, thanks. You said that I ought to be able to get a good sound with my current equipment and that relieves me. In that case I'll keep reading up on this stuff and see what other metal people say about the soundfield and come back to you with something new.
-
Well, I guess that was a harsh generalization to make. But in my 24 years of living there, that's kind of how I felt. Of course, I know not EVERYBODY's like that but still. . . It seems like there's such a difference between the people out there and out here. Anyway, time to put away the pessimism hat. I totally hope this works out. Like I said, I don't think the PS2 version of Tales of Destiny is out in America. I'd like to buy that sometime and then let someone else experience the goodness.
-
HAHAHA! Relax. I'm American too.

You've got one crazy idea that MIGHT just work. I would like to have participated in this, but I live in Japan, so people wouldn't be able to play some of my games. Plus, the shipping would be hell. I personally hope this idea does take off but I think that it might not work for just one simple reason. Most of the people on this site are American. You know how Americans are. Always ready to take advantage of the system without a second thought about the morality of it. Here in Japan, when someone finds some money, even just 20 bucks (well, 2000 yen) they take it to the lost and found man. You ask an American what they would do if they found some money and most would say, "Depends on the amount," which means that if it's not a million dollars in a briefcase that the mafia is looking for, then they know that nobody will come looking for them if they take it for themselves. Sorry to put the pessimist light on this, because I really DO hope this system works. So let's just think of this post as one that speaks the unspoken rules of the borrowing system. I personally would like to borrow Alundra from someone or lend out the PS2 version of Tales of Destiny to someone.

I was visiting a death metal home recording forum (Yeah, who knew?) and a multitude of people said that it goes without saying that metal guitars in general should always recorded like 3 times and then layered. I wonder how much that would help my sound. They also said that if just one of those tracks is a direct line recording that it sounds really neat. Another guy said that due to frequency related issues that I didn't really understand, it's better not to use anything but the amp's own sound and no pedals. Maybe I can try some of this stuff.
-
Man, I swear, if it's not recorded in an expensive studio, it's not good enough for OCR, is it? Tensei, how do you record your guitars? I'm starting to think that there's no way I'll be able to play guitars on my very own death metal piece because I just don't have money or equipment. I'll tell you guys exactly what I did to record my guitars. I used a ZOOM 505 multi-effects pedal for the basic sound, went to a practice studio and used they're nice Line 6 amp and played the song. I recorded it with what I suppose is a standard concert mic. I don't really know. It's the same mic used at all the concert halls in my area though. I didn't check the brand name or model. I plugged that mic into my sampler using a 3-prong to 1/4th inch cable. After recording, I took everything home and used a audio to 1/8th inch cable and recorded the music in Sonar from the line out jack of my sampler to the line in jack of my computer. Then I EQ'd it to have a lot more mid and bass. And that's how I got the final product. I did the same thing with the vocals, too. If it's not simply a difference in EQing or the distortion that I use, I don't think there is anything I can do to make it sound any prettier. I wish the judges arrangement bias would kick in more often.

Yoshi! I got a new version of my Valkyrie Profile remix done. Here it is. http://chipp_damage.sitesled.com/Music/Valkyriemix%20MP3.mp3 The improvements: -Guitars sound WAY better. Pretty much no mistakes and EQ'd much better than before. I managed to retain heaviness and still make things clear enough to understand what's going on all the time. -Vocals sound better, but probably still too cheesy for submission. -Removed a few short but unnecessary parts, making the song feel more like a song. This basically sets the arrangement in stone. I even varied up the drums more so I think the arrangement is perfect now. The main thing I'd like to hear about this new version is whether or not the current guitar PRODUCTION is passable and if not, I'd like to hear your advice.
-
OK Avaris. I finished my extra work that I had and I'm basically done with all the busy work regarding my Valkyrie Profile remix. So I can finally start working on my Xenomix. Sorry for the delays in getting started. Hopefully I can have the layout for the whole arrangement done by tomorrow. I didn't tell you, but I'm changing the genre just a bit from power metal to hardcore. I think you guys will like my idea. v^_^V
-
Oops. I got my mixes mixed up because both of them need drum samples that don't suck, like I was saying. So I just deleted the whole freaking post, since it had nothing to do with Xenogears. Unfortunately, I don't have my WIP of Valley Where the Wind is Born yet. But when I do, I'll let everyone know. I gotta take care of this crazy job in Tokyo before I can focus on anything else, first. UGH!
-
This is so cool. I can't believe you mentioned Dimmu borgir. Hahaha. I've written probably more than 50 original songs, of which 90% contain drums. Just like you said, I too have never made them sound from low to high. But after reading this tutorial, I'm thinking, "Why, the hell, not make them go from low to high? It might be cool." I think I'll see what I can do about that in my Xenoremix. Hahaha.
-
Hahaha, Ok sorry dude. After hearing your WIP of Bloody Tears, I figured that was your main style. ^_^But yeah, you have mentioned that you do like death metal. I forgot about that. So anyone out there willing to collab with me? I'm doing a metal version of Valley Where the Wind is Born. I'll take care of writing everything. I just need someone to do production of my drums and bass. I'm not gonna record real drums and bass and my samples sound fake. Anybody willing to help me with that?
-
Yo, Andyjayne. If you're doing a metal song and you need some live guitar work, I can do that for you. I have a seven-string and I'm doubtlessly the heaviest metaller on this site. Of course, if you're looking for something more Guilty Gear style, fun and rock-ish, then maybe Tensei is your man. My style is brutality all the way.
-
January 15th? I've only just joined but I was thinking that having it done by the end of September would have been kinda late. I'll definitely have a near finished track before the end of the year man. I don't need to move THAT slowly. Of course, if it helps people to take a lot of time, then they should definitely use all of the time you've given. By the way, Project remixes also have to be submitted for judging don't they? So there's a possibility that we all submit it and all get rejected, isn't there? !!

OCR01601 - Guilty Gear X2 "Destroy Movements"
The Legendary Zoltan replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Hey everyone. Thanks for the reviews. I'm really glad that I could get the first Guilty Gear remix on the site. I've been playing Guilty Gear riffs since the very first Guilty Gear game came out in 1998. That's over 9 years yo! Anyway, to review my own remix: I tried to make it sound kind of brutal like a metal song. The sound that I originally had was pretty heavy, but apparently the judges all thought it sounded way too fake (although, I thought it sounded freaking great). So I got James George to use his sweet sounds and do some producing work on it for me. He did a good job if you ask me. I also tried to make it vary a lot so that it wouldn't feel like it was "dragging on." The final thing that I thought about was the fact that there aren't any metal songs being remixed as orchestral songs on the site yet (at least, not any that I know of) but there are lots of orchestral ones that get turned into metal. Castlevania, anyone? Hahaha. Now that I've finally gotten my first mix accepted, I'm gonna continue to make more. I've already got a Valkyrie Profile mix in the works (hopefully it will also be a first for the site) as well as a Xenogears one. Now that I've made my debut, I want to be more active and well-known in the OCR community. So, please feel free to message me on OCR or on AIM or MSN to talk about games, remixes, whatever.
