I can't offer specific evaluations of any those schools, but in my opinion, the things you should be considering most are 1) Do you like the person (or people) who would be teaching you composition? Find out who teaches at the schools and try to find recordings of their music. While any teacher will certainly work with you to help you develop your own style, it will help if s/he has a style that you're interested in imitating. If you have the opportunity to visit any of the schools, definitely try to arrange a meeting with the composition faculty. 2) What are the opportunities like for getting your work performed at the school? This can be difficult to judge by just looking at websites, etc. Talking to faculty can be helpful, but they'll portray things in the best light possible -- ideally, you would want to talk to a current student about it. 3) Finances are important and should be factored into the decision.

Check with your local video rental place -- some of them will resurface/unscratch CDs and DVDs for a small fee.

Listening to a live performance of Olivier Messiaen's Quatuor pour la fin du temps was one of the relatively rare instances in which I would say that I was "moved" by music. EDIT: Also, hearing Vespers at a convent in Salzburg, Austria.

Do you plug the headphones in through a jack in the speakers, or do you connect them directly to the soundcard? If you have any sort of external cables, etc, involved, they could possibly be the culprits.

$50 doesn't seem like too bad a price. According to the Creative site, though, the (piano) keys are "mini-sized" which might bother you if you're used to standard-sized piano keys.

This may be part of the reason scouts dominate -- since it's large and open, it'll be fairly easy for them to see enemies a long way off and just avoid them. It's easier to defend tunnels and corridors against scouts than it is big open spaces.

Wouldn't sound like anything. Once the sine wave exceeded 20kHz we wouldn't be able to hear it. As long your software or whatever won't crash on a divide-by-zero error, the x = 0 point shouldn't cause problems. As you said, approaching x = 0, the pitch would rise until you couldn't hear it. Once past x = 0, it would come back down until it was it was too low to hear.
