  1. A whole lot of the Super Mario World music uses the same melody.
  2. Works okay for me. Try this link to one of the actual mp3s and see if it works -- it may just be a temporary problem with the OCR site rather than the mp3 hosts. http://ocremix.dreamhosters.com/songs/Seiken_Densetsu_3_Angels_on_the_Shore_OC_ReMix.mp3
  3. The little button in the upper right detaches the piano roll window and lets you resize it however you want. (But it still doesn't let you use VSTs )
  4. I can't offer specific evaluations of any those schools, but in my opinion, the things you should be considering most are 1) Do you like the person (or people) who would be teaching you composition? Find out who teaches at the schools and try to find recordings of their music. While any teacher will certainly work with you to help you develop your own style, it will help if s/he has a style that you're interested in imitating. If you have the opportunity to visit any of the schools, definitely try to arrange a meeting with the composition faculty. 2) What are the opportunities like for getting your work performed at the school? This can be difficult to judge by just looking at websites, etc. Talking to faculty can be helpful, but they'll portray things in the best light possible -- ideally, you would want to talk to a current student about it. 3) Finances are important and should be factored into the decision.
  5. Check with your local video rental place -- some of them will resurface/unscratch CDs and DVDs for a small fee.
  6. I clicked on this thread expecting to see something along the lines of "a power surge bricked my Macbook," and I must say I've been disappointed so far.
  7. ... bank heist? Do you need a $1000 computer, or could you get by with a cheaper one? Not spending as much money tends to be easier than getting more money.
  8. Assuming you have the problem I think you have, this is the fix: http://www.halflife2.net/forums/showthread.php?t=131328
  9. I think free.napster.com allows you to listen to a song a few times (three maybe?) without buying it.
  10. I've been wanting to try Age of Chivalry but haven't had the time. You might wanna bump Zephyr's HL2 mods thread with it.
  11. More extraordinary than its original context in Beethoven's 9th? Regardless, I'ma go find this and listen to it -- I'm interested in hearing what they do with it.
  12. I don't really understand the implied connection here. Does Christianity necessarily enhance musical emotion?
  13. Listening to a live performance of Olivier Messiaen's Quatuor pour la fin du temps was one of the relatively rare instances in which I would say that I was "moved" by music. EDIT: Also, hearing Vespers at a convent in Salzburg, Austria.
  14. Potential lulz: if the mod said it removed all the spiders but left just one near the end of the game.
  15. Neat idea, but the execution is meh. Here's the Mission Impossible theme a capella.
  16. Do you plug the headphones in through a jack in the speakers, or do you connect them directly to the soundcard? If you have any sort of external cables, etc, involved, they could possibly be the culprits.
  17. Had my best heavy game ever tonight. 54 kills, 35 deaths. Lowering my resolution to improve the framerate has done wonders for me.
  18. I thought it was funny in the same way the elevator scene in Spider-Man 2 was. First it's funny. Then after 7 seconds it's not so funny. Then after even more seconds it becomes funny again because it's so awkwardly long.
  19. Next step: backwards tranceless hug.
  20. 18th century fugues of four or more voices.
  21. $50 doesn't seem like too bad a price. According to the Creative site, though, the (piano) keys are "mini-sized" which might bother you if you're used to standard-sized piano keys.
  22. This may be part of the reason scouts dominate -- since it's large and open, it'll be fairly easy for them to see enemies a long way off and just avoid them. It's easier to defend tunnels and corridors against scouts than it is big open spaces.
  23. This wiki brings back fond memories of UnrealEd. I may just have to download the Source SDK and try to make a map.
  24. My family has bought, I think, 3 refurb Dell PCs and has never had any major problems. If you can find a machine with specs you like, it's a much better deal than buying it new. Make sure you read the item listings carefully so you know exactly what you're getting.
  25. Wouldn't sound like anything. Once the sine wave exceeded 20kHz we wouldn't be able to hear it. As long your software or whatever won't crash on a divide-by-zero error, the x = 0 point shouldn't cause problems. As you said, approaching x = 0, the pitch would rise until you couldn't hear it. Once past x = 0, it would come back down until it was it was too low to hear.
