  1. Problem is that djp and Larry didn't say anything near what Mustin might've been insinuating - they were like it sounds like a good idea but there was an expectation that more talking about it would've happened since it was a short talk from what I gathered. It was never an implicit or explicit green light to post the thread, which is why the thread blindsided everyone in staff chat when it happened, since we were busy hammering out details for the project approval process. 1. Scope isn't different - it's a complete containment of the other. 3. They haven't been afraid of taking experienced remixers either, as bLiNd and Sixto both told me they joined BadAss. I wasn't saying to nix this or anything like that, but I was pointing out how poorly it all started and to try to find a remedy so that both could move forward without worrying further.
  2. For people saying there's not overlap - you miss the point about what the overlap is, and the track overlap is larger once all of the tracks are updated on both ends. And I agree, this is about tribute to music, but marginalization of one group with respect to another because of the desire to slap the Bad Dudes name is not tribute - it's cliquish & alienization. Again, this wouldn't have been an issue if the thread hadn't been so hastily posted in the rush to get it out and something could have been worked beforehand. I'll leave it at that with kunal's effort to contact them and them to all work out something.
  3. Ugh, I had a long post typed up but Apple in its infinite wisdom decided for iTunes to automatically close Firefox without asking in a software update. What a terrible player, the one downside of the iPod...I just wanted to sleep at midnight . The two situations have big differences, which make all of the difference. That SDB album was not intended to be posted on OCR, although it did have a bit of mention in writeups. These both are. What this means is that potential resources, in this case people who could've helped them, is rendered split. There was also not a theme difference with the SDB projects as far as I'm aware. Here you have a project just starting that contains the other as a complete subset of it, aimed at release on the same site - you don't see the problem here? I do think that this could've possibly been averted somewhat if they made themselves more visible, which is their fault, but also the thread was made too hastily - the moratorium was enacted a day or two beforehand, people were bothering us to allow them to post their project threads or when the moratorium would be lifted, or about the project proposal/approval process, etc., and then this thread is posted, blindsiding the staff completely. The flurry of discussion that followed was basically on what to do, which ended up leading to djp's post on the first page. By the time I had an inkling of a realization that the themes were similar, it was too late to bring it up for discussion on what to do site side. So what I ask is to try to minimize the overlap unless something is worked out to try to get the tracks done in different styles where it does occur, because it is an awkward situation, and one that might've never happened had the proposal process and everything been fleshed out before this thread was posted.
  4. For those borderline - supposedly there's less than 600 passes left.
  5. So, I'm glad to welcome Sixto as an artist, who claimed a whopping 6 tracks !
  6. OCR has the role of trying to promote albums from site projects - it completely swallows one project's such attention by taking the theme wholesale, albeit developed independently & further. It's kind of like a situation where for example two concurrent site projects are running for the same game, say like FFIV as a hypothetical. It's like sticking a big middle finger in their direction essentially.
  7. There is concern that thematically there's a huge overlap - it's unfair to the guys running BadAss. Ideally the overlap in tracks should be kept to a minimum if possible given that overlap.
  8. is a lie? Hopefully not today at least! Happy birthday Amy!
  9. He might've been talking about Brushfire
  10. I personally am not a huge fan of the style of Amy's vocals here (not an indictment on you of course!). However, I did find a lot of things done put together well with the instrumentation and the overall flow of the vocals in adding emotion. The song is a lot more cohesive to me now that I get to listen to it on repeat rather than hearing it live though. Great job!
  11. Hey, I'm not complaining, it's a nice series of bumps
  12. Alright, I'll mark you down - don't forget to join the project forums! To be honest I'm not too familiar with your work, which is why I seem cautious.
  13. It's a very in your face song, with a sample that's like a lead guitar kicking it off, which you sort of expect for a fire stage (at least the in your face part). I want any arrangement of this to reflect the more brash nature, and I'm not fully convinced it can be worked to the max without guitars by most. If you wish to take a different route, ok, but just know that I'm taking a very hands on role in vetting WIPs on this project and that includes direction.
  14. This is a pretty nice song - too bad it wasn't in the original project. It has a nice atmosphere to it, and yet keeps things flowing with the drums. I didn't really hear much in the way of vocals, so perhaps that should've been used a bit more, but even with the lack of hearing much in that front, the song develops pretty nicely throughout.
  15. I'm skeptical given the source, but we'll see - I'm not ruling anything out, but just giving advance warning.
  16. This is a pretty straightforward take on the ALttP songs (I take it that a variation on them is found on the Gamecube title) in some ways. The melody is pretty much left untouched, and the instrumentation is where the creativity is found. Nice nifty song!
  17. Well, the first post should cover my expectations of tracks in general on this project - it's not that I'm against being creative with styles or anything like that, but I have a particular goal here to help keep things cohesive and to further people's abilities.
  18. This has a pretty nice groove to it - pretty much on par for the course for JM's stuff. I don't really have much to say except keep on grooving!
  19. I'd be interested, but my time is kind of limited - I definitely can't do Monday or Wednesday though.
  20. You know, this song really is one that fits in the background while you're doing other stuff, which is reminiscent of the music in the UT games in general I seem to remember (feel free to correct me on this, I could be remembering wrong). It does seem repetitive, but I seem to remember that the UT music was repetitive overall, and is meant to take a backseat to the action. This song accomplishes that IMO with looping of the melody, and more subtly the background instrumentation. Pretty good job!
  21. Funny you should mention blogs - the intention here is that sometime this year, hopefully in a month or two, the OCR blog system will be implemented.
  22. Classic controller and awful? It's better than the 360 and PS3 controller...
  23. Depends on the angle you're going to go with it - you may need someone to collab with you if I'm to let you take it on.
