Ok, I've read things over and I've got a few words to say. As much as I may seem like a stickler over deadlines, at the end of the day it's just a project and we're all doing this for the fun of it. I really would have liked to get things done by the deadline or shortly after. It pains me too that we've had to drag things out and, trust me, I feel for all of you who have to sit on your finished tracks because others are not finished. I really wanted to avoid that lag phase and I've gone so far as to promise a release date so certain artists wouldn't have to hold onto their finished songs for months/years. Depending on the situation, those promises might have been broken on my part, and I feel terrible about that. So, before I get into anything, I'm sorry to those of you who are having to wait. However, I've always, always said that real life comes first when it comes to these projects. I know each and every one of you (even Brandon :3) are real people with jobs, lives, significant others, commitments, and any number of extenuating circumstances. I realize that you're all taking a lot of time out of your lives to do something for me, and it's really my honor to have any of you here in the first place. If any of you had to go through personal hell to finish your songs, you should have, and still can, talked to me about it. I would have been understanding and made appropriate arrangements to accommodate you. As of such, it's really on me to be understanding of the situations that you're all experiencing. I'm not a hardass for deadlines because if I was, we'd have to settle for a lot of remixes that would be rushed, uninspired, and sloppy in comparison to what the artists who've missed deadlines has in mind. Fun fact: Dave Wise didn't even make the final deadline. Should I have cut him? I don't think so. I've gotta balance promptness of project release with the fact that, if I was completely compliant with cutting people who missed deadlines, we wouldn't have such FUCKING AWESOME REMIXES like Dave's, Monobrow's, zyko's, ilp0's, Theophany's, OA's, Will's, Proto's, and so many other remixes that were finished after the deadline. Trust me, when you guys hear these remixes, I think you will agree that the extra months we spent on the project was absolutely worth it. Those remixers are one-of-a-kind and they brought something to the project that nobody else could have. As such, I'll take what I can get I want to make it clear though, me, Cody, and Flexstyle are doing absolutely EVERYTHING in our power to get things done. I've actually spent the night at his place recently so we can spend time mastering the project and making sure everything flows right. I've put in countless hours trying to track down unfinished remixers/remixes and hooking up collabs and basically doing what a director ought to. We've listened to the whole project (in its current form) dozens and dozens of times to make sure the tracklist flows as well as possible. tl;dr - we're working our asses off behind the scenes to make sure everything is as good as it can be. Ultimately, I'm taking this project VERY seriously because the last two DKC remix projects that've come before were extremely high quality and we're trying to outdo that. I understand the current frustrations and I empathize with them... the missed deadlines get me really disheartened too but at the end of the day, it's going to be worth the wait so that every artist currently on the project can finish to their own satisfaction. tl;dr I love you all and appreciate your contributions, whether you made the deadline or not. I consider all of you friends by now and I don't want any feelings to be hurt over this. I want things to be finished but I'm putting my trust in the rest of you to get things finished in a timely manner. I'll do the best I can to make this happen. Let's all get along PS I'm super medicated right now so I probably sound like a goddamn hippie lol PPS This project was started in November 2009. It's only been a year and a half since we started. And we have almost 60 finished tracks when you count in the bonus tracks with 10-15 more to go. The first two DKC3 remix projects have 57 tracks combined. Those projects took 2-3 years to complete, EACH. In a quarter of the time, we've gotten more remixes than those two projects combined and average song quality is just as high, if not better. We should all be proud of that. Some food for thought (disclaimer: I am not a math major and I cannot math very well. finished Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: "Runaway Faith" Remix
Emunator replied to TGH's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Wow, you really improved your piano sound a lot since the first time I heard this tune. It's still not perfectly realistic, but the sequencing here should be more than enough The arrangement is a little fragmented and, some might say, meandering. But I wanted to let you know I enjoyed the listen and I hope you do well with the panel when you choose to submit Hopefully those things I mentioned about the arrangement won't be a huge issue. Good luck! -

Just wanted to point out that this is seriously sexy, like everything else you make This is a keeper. -
Hey, this is pretty neat Lots of very cool sound design going on, though I do feel like the sound effects get a little played out by the time the song is over, unfortunately. There's a lot of good variation in the arrangement, which I like. Overall, there's a lot of cool stuff going on here, the arrangement itself kinda drags on for a bit too long but it's solid. I think this would have a pretty fair shot at the judge's panel, let's see what another workshop mod has to say about this one!

Aight, I hope I didn't come off as a pedant, I just wanted to make sure we were clear for the deadline. All's good!

I don't know why mine, Ergo's and Theophany's collab is still marked purple; unless you think it needs a major overhaul (which I won't be able to provide right now due to a faulty computer) the last thing I sent you was about 90-95% done :\ Hope there's no miscommunication, but I've taken the song about as far as I can on my own. Theophany's got the song and needs to give it a final mix, but if there needs to be drastic changes to the track itself, I'd like to hear about it Other than that, you should mark our track as green

Ok, so, some good news finally I got 2 finished (save for some little touchups) songs from ilp0 and Monobrow last night, and a very progressed wip from DJ-AKX earlier this week! They're sounding FANTASTIC. I'm also expecting finished material from a few others in the very near future, so with any luck, we might be wrapping up soon! It's gonna take effort from everyone to make it happen, bu there's really only a few problem songs to deal with once we get all the blue songs taken care of. In short... things are starting to get back on track. Let's keep it that way Oh, while I was typing up this message I got a WAV from ilp0 Quite a surprise, I was honestly not even expecting this song to get finished but the final product is pretty rockin'! Some rough-and-dirty classic rock loving for the fantastic Treetop Tumble is a bit of a liberal take but it's damn good Thanks ilp0!

Y'all don't be hating on Akuma, he's a good guy and I know he'll get things done He's gone through a lot of effort to get his mix sounding the way it is now, it's one of the most remarkably improved songs since the first WIP

mod-review Pokémon Platinum Giratina Battle Remix
Emunator replied to DoubleJoeSeven's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
I'll disagree with Nutri on the sound used for the transitions; in the game, that's Giratina's cry and I think it sounds awesome in this context. I also think the dissonance works fine in this context and helps keep the mood. Unfortunately, I have to agree on the more pressing matter of this being too close to the original song. You've got some cool sounds here and a lot of energy, but no matter how good the adaptation is, when your remix is pretty much just a cover of the original, it's not going to really be acceptable for OCR's standards. In addition, the balancing on this track isn't really doing it for me, I can pretty much echo Nutritious's concerns on that. That said, this is a pretty neat song and I'm enjoying the listen. If you feel up to varying the track so it's a bit more interpretive, this might have some place on OCR, or you could just take this as a learning experience and start on something fresh, where it'll be easier to craft a song to OCR's standards. Take that for what it's worth -
Gah, you guys have got to stop leaking internal project-related memos. All this Emugate nonsense is making me look bad. I've got a country to run, dammit! Okay, so, in other news, we've got 2 finished songs recently WillRock (with the aid of the trusty Level 99) has FINALLY FINALLY FINALLY finished his remix. After, like, a year and a half. But it's totally worth the wait. All I can say is... whatever your expectations would be for a collab between these two might entail, get rid of them. This song sounds NOTHING like you'd expect it to And, on another note, David Wise's track is finally finished This one's been a long time in the making, and it's safe to say that Mr. Wise has put a TON of time into polishing this one up and making it perfect. As for the nature of the track itself, I'm going to leave that a complete surprise, but suffice to say this is one of the grandest remixes I've ever heard, and I think many of you will agree when you see just how much effort went into making it. Can't wait til you all can hear this one on launch day

You guys are a bunch of hipsters "Oh yeah, I'm starting up a remix project and I'm inviting you to join! I'd tell you what games we're remixing, but I doubt you've ever heard of them."

@Christian, we tend to work in spurts where we both hang out together and mix/master anything we need done in spurts. So as long as you have the stems sent to him, rest assured we'll get to it As for the macro, I'm afraid I can't help you there @Proto, I'll take off ALL my clothes when I get YOUR wav, bebeh <3

OCR02215 - Mega Man 2 "Mechanical Flare"
Emunator replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
This is actually one of my favorite songs from Will's library, even though it's not necessarily the most intense or technically-amazing composition. It's got an understated quality to it, like some of his other mellower remixes, that I'm really fond of. Plus, the melodies are ridiculously catchy - I know that the combination of themes here wasn't REALLY your choice, but it still works well! Fantastic summer-afternoon lounge track. -
Says two people who still haven't finished their tracks You know what? I'm not putting out for EITHER of you until you guys get your WAVs in. That's just the way it's gotta be. Does that count as a sexy incentive?

Hey, just wanted to let you know this one was on my radar and I've given it a preliminary listen, but I need to let it sit for a bit. I just want to make sure you know we didn't skip over this in the meantime -

mod-review Disgaea 2 Item World
Emunator replied to ExperimentalSoundLab's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Okay, I'm going to be honest with you here. Your arrangement is really cool. I wouldn't suggest changing too much about it. Your sound choices even are very cool, I'm sensing a lot of zyko-flair from that sinewave lead in the intro, which I like. Overall you've got a fantastic atmosphere and a lot of cool details going on. The drums are pretty well written, I love the stutters. But your mixing is very problematic. There's a lot of elements in here that are just waaaay too forward in the mix, and they get piercing at times, particularly your guitar and synth leads. This is most noticeable when you've got high notes with a very long duration, where the sound starts to grate. I'd say your EQing in the lower frequencies is pretty good, but the highs need a lot of balancing so they can gel with the rest of the song. I also hear some very significant balancing issues with those guitar licks in the intro of your mix. Try panning those so the two recordings aren't occupying exactly the same space in the sound field. Right now it just makes that section sound messy, but I think it's salvageable. My last major criticism is the whole section with the white noise buildup and the subsequent dropoff. My personal opinion (others' mileage may vary on this issue) is that it runs a bit too long and a little too loud; there's some cool synth work buried beneath the noise but it's barely audible. When the dropoff actually occurs, I'd recommend a more full cutoff of the noise, so the effect of the kick coming back in is more intense. Right now, it sounds like you only cut off about half of the noise and leave the rest in, which doesn't carry much dramatic impact for me. Like I said, others may have differing thoughts here, so I'd suggest waiting for a second opinion from another workshop mod. Ultimately, this arrangement is REALLY cool and your soundscape is fantastically crafted, but the mixing is holding this back. With some EQ work and a lot of attention paid to balancing, this could easily pass the OCR panel on arrangement merits, I think Good luck! -
wip Pokémon Black/White: Driftveil City
Emunator replied to Dasgust's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Hah! Yeah, this is a really fun groove, I wasn't expecting this at all I've had this one stuck in my head a lot from listening to it in-game. Your adaptation of the source is really the selling point here. It's catchy and fun. But there's some things that just aren't jiving with me. First off, your sub bass is WAY too strong, and I'm listening on headphones that are very weak in the bass ranges. Neblix seems to have the right idea about where to make frequency cuts. The reverb levels on your synths is pretty high too, especially the ones in the background. Scale back a bit on that, it's making things a bit muddy. As far as arrangement goes, this is mostly solid, but the breakdown section with the piano in the middle feels overlong to me. I feel like you could cut down about half of it, or perhaps bring back a subtle beat halfway through to help build up to the beat drop again. The transition that follows also feels rather awkward, I'm not sure what to suggest other than just going back to the drawing board and doing a transition that flows a bit more naturally, but adding in more of a buildup prior to the drop is a good place to start. I'm not really sure if I agree with the synths being too generic, I think they work okay in this context. You probably couldn't go wrong by adding a bit of subtle vibrato or other effects to your lead synths to make them more interesting, however. This one's definitely worth sticking with though, I like what you've done so far -
I'm not mad, I'm just... disappointed. xP Serious though, if there's anything tangible to come out of this fit of randomness, check the very top of the first post! Oh, what is that? Is that some ARTWORK preview? It might be 4 months late, but better nate than lever! Also, I'm gonna reiterate this, because this was actually real: DO IT

Oh hey there! I'm really looking forward to your collaboration with Procrastination on Bonus Time SNES! Any word on when we're gonna get that mix in?

So, we've hit another minor setback. I was showing the project to Prophecy, and he has determined that Disc 2 sucks. In fact, it sucked from the start, and I'm not sure how I missed it before. The songs were just all wrong, and it took a true musical genius such as Prophecy to bring this to my attention. And, fittingly, who better to go back and fix that entire disc than Prophecy himself? I assume he'll have all those final WAVs in the next week or so, as soon as he's done battling Australian space mutants and saving the world. But while we're at it, I looked through the rest of the tracklist and discovered that, to my surprise, a lot of other songs on the project sucked to. I've made some arrangements to hook certain artists up with collaborations to help them get their songs up to par! A few highlights from the new, revised roster: Cranky's Showdown is now being tackled by an army of Nazi zombies that were summoned from the dead by AkumajoBelmont's voice! Virt, GrayLightning, and Disco Dan have ressurrected from the dead to take on a credits theme remix! Dave Wise is now collaborating with a bunch of OCRemixers, who are finally going to show him how to make a real ReMix, after admitting that he has no idea how to write music and has been faking it this whole time. Diggi Dis's mega rap collab has dumped all the whack MC's that were originally on the track, in favor of some more respectable rap artists that REALLY care about the DKC series! Special guest artists Bob Dylan, deadmau5, Dragonforce, and OA's mom have taken notice of the project and offered to contribute too! We hope you enjoy these roster changes, and will be patient with us as we rework the parts of the album that suck in order to make them not suck. Rest assured, it will be worth it in the end!

Emunator replied to Kenogu Labz's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
This mix has too much reverb! Other than that, this is a fantastic remix and I think it'd do great on OCR! Tone down the reverb, and maybe you could automate the "Source Usage" filter down a bit so you can work some solos in there. That's just a personal suggestion though But yeah, with a percussion track like that it really doesn't matter what the rest of the mix sounds like. SUBMIT THIS NOW!
