  1. Great idea Seriously, though, I do agree with Yoozer that this could really help out prospective mixers. I'd really like to see this done in other genres/DAWs.
  2. Now with new and improved Sticky. Conflict of interest? I think so!
  3. After thinking about this, I've decided to post incremental versions on this mix, as well as keep older copies availble for listening. I'm hoping this will help any interested mixers see how my progression and writing process progresses. I'll be updating the latest version, but also keep a link in the first post which should allow access for all versions. Ok, did some work on this last night: New: Improved some synths Added sections A little drum variation Placeholder vocals To do: New sections and rearrange sections (for example, last section is placeholder) Additional synthwork Drum work & variation Orchestra additions/improvements More vocals/replace placeholders
  4. Wow, I didn't expect such detailed crits so quickly. Yeah, you guys have mainly highlighted stuff I'm aware of and am working on. I probably should've held off on posting 'til I was further along, but I wanted to share. I do appreciate the feedback, though . Stay tuned.
  5. Nope, not a resub of my previous attempt several years ago. Started this one a couple nights ago. It's still pretty rough and subject to MUCH change (synths, sections, possibly vocals, etc), but this gives the general idea: EDIT, NEW Final Version: All previous versions (v3 & on): http://ocrwip.fireslash.net/?a=Nutritious OST: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_0pFBWAMvo4
  6. I know Fostex makes a specific subwoofer for monitor setups (don't have a link at the moment). You have to be careful, though, as you'll need to correctly balance the levels between your monitors and your sub. If you're not consistent between the set, you're going to have an inaccurate reference point.
  7. Before you jump into buying something, I'd recommend you consider the fact that you can only get so much low-end sound from speakers this small. Monitor sets this size simply can't put out low end sound. Now, I'm by no means an expert in the hardware field, but I've heard generally positive things about the bx5a's. Overall, they should be a decent pair of monitors for the price range. Personally, I use the KRK 5's that Sonic linked and am very pleased with them. I'm sure someone else can chime in with more information, but from my understanding, you're either gonna have to go to bigger monitors or a subwoofer if you're looking for better low-end support.
  8. True, that may have been too strong, but a lot of the feedback on this thread has taken a negative slant. I hate to see that happen in what looks like a pretty cool opportunity. Personally, if I can scrounge the time, I'm going to try and enter this one.
  9. Bah, I still haven't gotten to listen to that source. Sorry about that. On production, I don't think I'll change my crits as they stand from earlier. One thought, though, on the beat. It's also very dry compared to the other elements, so maybe some tastefully (read: don't overdo it) applied reverb will help it out. It's a very cool track though, dude. Pending the arrangement, I guess I'd go ahead with the sub, regardless of what you decide on the hat/drums.
  10. This^ I've had two incidents recently of people stealing my stuff on youtube and posting as their own. In both cases, I had the same content on my own channel. You just have to go to the offending vid and fill out a simple form, explaining it and linking to both. Pretty hassle-free on my end and YT was very responsive & quickly removed the vids.
  11. This is a known issue with FL. The short of it is, the company that created the soundfont player plugin went under and disappeared. Basically, Image-Line can't do anything to fix it, so that's as good as it's gonna get.
  12. Ok, yeah, this isn't "tonight", "tomorrow", or even "next week". Nearly next month. Sorry dude. You've probably submitted it by now, but i'm still gonna give the promised rundown. Liked the intro a lot better this time. Stutter was good idea, but execution wasn't QUITE there. Seems like it should've stuttered in a way that leads into the beat and gets punctuated on the downbeat by something, but not a huge deal. Not sure why second stutter right after it was there, I'd remove it honestly. Nice clean sound here with the guitars, good synth use. Drums have good presence and writing. I can't help feeling it could have a bit more power (snare specifically). Man you REALLY improved the bridge section with the vocal sample. Still sounds like some pumping at 3:39, 4:46 & 5:02 - watch those levels. Solid stuff overall here dude. Now, for some transparency. A big part of why I didn't reply to this initially: in my mind I could hear a ton of potential and room for a big orchestra to back this up. I was contemplating asking if you wanted to collab, but I really have a lot on my plate that's unfinished that I need to finish before taking anything else on. So, that's why I didn't bring it up. After that, I forgot to come back and crit, so sorry man .
  13. Yeah, I'm using that mfxshell workaround or whatever to get wordbuilder to load. As for the second part, that hasn't been my experience at all. I don't know why you couldn't load multis, but both of mine are the old 32-bit versions.
  14. I've been on win 7 64 for a few months now. No trouble at all with FL9, EWQLSO or EWQLSC NI versions (well, technically choirs does have trouble with FL, but that's another story).
  15. Wait, you WANT dozens of distinct albums, one from each game OCR covers? I mean, I don't know how your mp3 player works, but I'd be irritated if putting ocr tracks on my mp3 player created a bunch of unnecessary albums.
  16. Hah gotcha now. EDIT: Still, after I began dominating him, the marker would be back on for the next few kills. So, in a sense it partly was crappy timing. But you bring up a good point.
  17. No, I mean. The round immediately following the duel, I get 7-8 kills on him in a row. Was just irritated I didn't do it the round before.
  18. So I duel a guy last night, lose 2-0 (bad timing on my part and short round) Next round: Dominate him + 4 kills Whyyyyy /rant
  19. Yeah just.... don't bother with MOO3
  20. Man, this is one of my fav games of all time. I haven't tried it on 64 bit win7 yet, but didn't have trouble running it in xp. I'll have to give it a shot to make sure. I used to play Psilon as well, but found that Creative was very OP and kinda made it boring. Generally would do custom races with a setup of something like: -2 bc/turn (for extra points to spend) Warlord (for elite crews, & more command points from bases/colonies) Unity gov't whatever it's called Carismatic(?) for better leaders & negotiation IIRC Last Christmas my wife bought me MOO 1 CD version, which rocked my socks. It's different enough from MOO2 to still make it a lot of fun. EDIT: Fun strategies I've tried in the past: -Rush to get good ground combat technology + assault shuttles. Hang back in battle and launch shuttles to take over enemy ships. Scrap the ships to get their technologies. -No beam weapon strategy: go all missiles & projectiles with high ECCM & missile upgrades like fast racks (shoot 2x in one turn). Hang back & lob away. -Deny hiring any low level leaders in favor of waiting for better & more developed ones (I used to just hire as soon as they'd appear) -War with no one: get as many non-aggression, trade, & research pacts going as you can, but never agree to Alliance with anyone. That way, they can't force you to declare war on another player.
