I've found the best way to really explore the music on the site is to Torrent the big batches of mixes and use the almighty Shuffle feature on your music player. http://ocremix.org/torrents/ Scroll down to the 1 - 1000 and 1001 - 1900 for a good starting point.

Man, this track is fantastic. Love the energy it brings and pacing. Whether or not it is "authentic", it definitely captures the movie vibe he was reaching for. I wouldn't have batted an eye if someone had introduced this to me as part of a film soundtrack. Excellent work.

I guess it's a spoiler if you never played NES Bionic Commando, but... Hitler's face exploding at the end of the game is messed up - especially for an 8 year old. Also, when I played the game I absolutely refused to Wiretap, because the possible resulting blaring alert and surprise attack totally freaked me out.

I've done the same thing before - I hate that slider. Every once in a while I'll hold Alt and click the master pitch and volume sliders just to make sure they're still set to 0.

I've been toying with this theme for a while actually. Beautiful song.

I can dig it man. Nice groove & bass foundation. The lead at :52 could've been brought up a dB or two. Liking the interplay between the synth and string stabs. I'm not on the best phones, but I didn't hear any obvious compression/clipping problems. The kick is pretty strong, so conceivably it could COMBINE POWERS with something else to cause a problem. Good stuff, dude.

Vagrance gave a really good critique back there, so I'll add just a couple thoughts: -Song feels like it's lacking direction in general. There's a lot of dependance on that short lead synth to carry the melody and gets pretty repetative after a while. -Agree on the distorted sound problem. -Also, the drums don't feel like they're meshing well with the rest of the song. Hard to quantify, but I feel like the snare specifically is sticking out away from everything else. It's not an easy thing to do and it's hard to give specific advise on how to fix it. Sometimes it's just experimentation.

Let's a-go!! No real intro here with the synths near-immediate entry into the song. Synths are honestly on the bland side here. The beat isn't bad itself, however, it pretty much stays on autopilot the entire mix with no fills, dropoffs or changeups. Arrangement-wise, this is very conservative - making it sound more like a midi-rip/sound upgrade than a ReMix. Really need to take some care in personalizing this to your own creative arrangement. I hope this doesn't come off as too negative as I don't want to discourage you. I just recommend you keep working on both production and arrangement. Explore some more synths, look at lots of presets, get an idea of what sounds good in existing mixes and why, etc. Try some variation in melody, flow of the song, harmonies, breakdowns, tempo, etc. Imagine how you can create something new while still keeping the connection with the original. At this stage in mixing, I suggest you let this one sit a while and try your hand at a lot of different tracks and styles. It's really easy starting out to get attached to a mix you've spent a lot of time on, but I found that when I started moving on to a lot of new things and trying new techniques, I really started to progress. I'm not trying to tell you that you have to drop this mix, I just think it'll help you progress to keep trying new things. Also, keep posting your mixes here and we'll keep trying to help you improve. Hope this helps.

One I remember is from old, fairly obscure game called Ultrabots. It's a combination of FPS and Strategy where alien bots are invading Earth and you have to command your own robots to stop them in a bunch of different locations around the world. There's no save option. Instead, the game automatically saves your progress as you move through the game (I think this was pretty standard for old EA games). There was a specific battle against the computer where I'd defeated all of their robots, save one. I saw it on radar, but had trouble locating it near a mountain (read: giant 4 polygon mass). I finally managed to get at an angle where I could see "under" the mountain and saw the legs of the robot underneath. Basically, it somehow ran inside of the hill and was unhittable. No save points, so no way to go back to before the battle. Good times. I did end up starting a new game sometime later and beat it, so I don't feel so bad.

Well, the hardware needed really depends on the complexity of your music (more generators & effects = more RAM and CPU utilization). You didn't post your CPU & OS, but based on RAM & HD space, you should have no problem getting started. EDIT: Be sure you're familiar with how to tweak FL out of the box to get it running as smooth as possible. Feel free to post in the FL forum if you need help on that when the time comes.

Just to expand on what Rozo said... There are a lot of different ways to go about gating a synth. For example, you can add a Mute effect to the Mixer slot and control it with an automation track. This is a common issue when new to mixing. I'm sure you could find a lot of specific information about Mastering and Compression in FL from searching. Basically, though, you're going to need to experiment with different compression settings on your master track to strike a good balance between loudness and clarity (not overcompressing). If you're looking for a very simple mastering compressor without the hassle of playing with settings, you could always use the Soundgoodizer - 4 presets and one gain knob - doesn't get any more straightforward than that. It won't provide the same results as a proper master by any means, but it may be a good option for you now. There's nothing wrong with using canned loops straight up, per-se. The real underlying issues that crop up with them, though, is repetativeness (using the same loop pattern over and over) and that it can feel pasted-on/mismatched with your song. I'd also recommend finding some presets you like (whether included with the synth or on the net) and then digging into them to see how they're made. Pay attention to the types of oscillators used, the filters, effects, etc to attain a specific sound.
