  1. Yeah, it's slightly complicated though. Ok, so you have specific measures where your song changes tempo. Start at the first tempo change in the song. Go to the playlist and click on the measure BEFORE the tempo changes, so the current tempo showing at the top is the first tempo in the project. Take the razor tool and slice right on the line exactly where the tempo changes (you may have to zoom in, depending on how precise your tempo change is). Now, if you start playback in the SECOND tempo, it should be lined up properly. Continue this process for each tempo change in the song and it should keep the vocal track in sync.
  2. It's a bummer I didn't see this thread earlier, cause I was going to suggest video card issues. I had a similar problem where I was getting a weird beep sequence with a blank screen and it turned out to be bad ram on the video card (or just faulty in general). Getting a new card solved the issue. Might want to also google the boot beep codes for your BIOS to find out what the specific sequence means.
  3. Hah, I was just now listening to try and figure it out and couldn't. Makes it even more funny when you find out what it is.
  4. Sweet, another Mechwarrior game. Honestly, I had trouble getting into Mech4, but I was a huge fan of Mechwarrior 2, and a bit less so, 3. Based on the small snipped from the trailer, going to be from the IS perspective again? Part of what I liked so much about 2 was the perspective being from the clans.
  5. CC11 is fine volume control on a given instrument patch. It's good for automating volume control on any instrument patch, regardless if it's dxf or not. DXF instruments, however, have the ability to not only adjust volume with cc controls, but also switch patches. CC1 controls the mod wheel on these, which will both change volume and crossfade between different timbre's for a more realistic sound. So, CC1 for DXF instruments and CC11 for others.
  6. It coincides with the Otakon convention OCR will be attending.
  7. Nice ethereal feel in the intro. Felt like the piano tone (on the repeated patterns) had a real dry, dull sound, which clashes a bit with the heavy verb'd soundscape. Not a whole lot to this tune as far as length or lots of arrangement, but it's a nice relaxing listen.
  8. Catchy opening, really like that gritty synth used. I wasn't so following arp section though, kinda feels like it overstays it's welcome. A little weird transition out of them as well at 1:25, which kinda makes the piece feel meandering, rather than a focused arrangement. Definitely a welcome change-up at 1:53 that gets things moving again. Have to admit, I liked the unexpected fanfare at the end. Not a bad song, but I would've liked to hear some more variety, especially with the beatwork.
  9. Check out Audacity for the sound editing side. Free software that has quite a lot of features (even more in the beta version). I'm doing a lot of sound effect design right now myself and it's been invaluable to me. As far as creating sounds, it depends. You're going to be looking at synthesizers or other sound generators - generally stuff that's found in something like Cubase. Never hurts to do some research on how to create/record sounds in the real world to help what you're doing, assuming you've got the hardware to do so.
  10. I'll start off to say that the dirty, garage-band sounding feel isn't my cup of tea, so I'm sure it doesn't help my review. I think some of the playing could've been a bit tighter. On the other hand, however, it's obviously capably produced and well executed for live instruments. Good job varying up the different sections to keep things fresh. Oh man, quick panning at 1:14 really messes with my head. I think it's important to keep in mind some of us listen on headphones . I did like the wah guitar section coming in a bit after 2:20. I've always been a sucker for the effect. I would've liked to hear some more transitions, rather than abrupt changeups (I'm looking at you, 4:55), but it's not bad enough to mess with the overall track too much. Overall, I can appreciate a solid instrumental piece like this, whether or not it's my style. Well done.
  11. Nice airy feel to this song. The quick panning on the pads gets pretty old on headphones, sadly. Fortunately, they don't stick around TOO long to kill the track. I actually do like the basic bass patch. It kind've gives it a real basic, no-frills feel that some of the mario tracks are known for (SMRPG comes to mind). The strings sound real nice after the two minute mark. They blend very well with the pads at that point. I do wish the bell-pads didn't come back with the panning thing later, but it's not a big deal. Nice chilled out track.
  12. Another song I've had on my hard drive for a very long time. This is a pretty fun rendition of the classic zelda theme. It doesn't take a lot of risks in melodic interpretation, but what he does well is to switch up the instruments and feel quite a bit along the way. It's a very interesting and cool combination between breakbeat, orchestra, and some synth work. That's totally my style, which is probably why I like this. Production isn't bad, but it could use some work. Orchestra felt a little dull, tone-wise and doesn't quite gel with the drums. It's pretty short as well, mainly due to the straightforward arrangement of the theme. Plenty of room for a few more risks and additional interpretation to increase the overall content. Still, I really like this tune. Go download it. Interestingly, this is one of the parts of the song that always sticks with me. I agree they don't sound natural, but it gives the song a unique intro that I always remember. I guess I always assumed it was supposed to be a more synthetic intro than the rest of the song, so it didn't bother me.
  13. Wow, beautiful and haunting intro. I think that was the most effective part of the piece. It's a capable solo piano piece, not for it's technical merit, but for the mood it creates. He's very delicate with some of the velocities, which is why it's so effective I think. I was very surprised how short the song was. I was expecting a dramatic B section that brings out the second half of the original OST, but it never came. I'm not even sure if the second half of the song is covered here? Sounds like a big missed opportunity for more development and material beyond what is here. Ending was ok, though the fadeout felt like a bit of a cop out. Still, it's emotive and well done.
  14. Sounds and textures felt pretty basic on this song, both beginning orchestra-ish section and the following electronic section. Can't say I was a big fan of the square(?) bass that came in around 1:00. Feels kind've like a direct conversion from a more classical song to techno instruments. Some parts of it work, like the layering of pads/strings with the arp synth, but some others don't (as mentioned above). I think this would appeal to a lot of listeners, especially those into the electronic song from the olden ocr days. It's just not so much my thing.
  15. You can pretty much instantly tell this is a Rayza track, especially when that synth lead comes in. Pretty straight-forward arrangement, but very well executed. Good change-ups between various sections in the song. Not too long of a track, but I don't think that's a bad thing - could've run the risk of overstaying its welcome that way. Solid remix.
  16. This song really captures the feel of older OCR tracks. The obligatory 4 on the floor, synthy bass, straightforward synth lead. Nice, clear sound on the production. I like whenever this song appears on my playlist - I can tell exactly what it is from the get-go. Nothing too flashy or surprising here, just solid old-school ocr tunage.
  17. Ahh, early AnSo (which wasn't really that long ago I guess). His style is all over this - lots of various, interesting synths. Very upbeat, happy style in this case - which isn't surprising, considering the original. Speaking of the original, excellent job taking an annoying song and making it something interesting to listen to (without losing the source connections). Arrangement is very well executed, bringing new instrument types in the mid/later sections to vary it up from the synth-dominated portions. An enjoyable listen and good addition to the project as a whole.
  18. Pretty simplistic production and arrangement here. Beat does get more interesting in the middle with some pretty cool writing. There's a lot a repetition here, though, that bring the song down - especially the repeating bell synth. Could've been significantly shorter without really losing arrangement ideas. Not a bad song, per se, just not really appealing to me personally.
  19. Honestly, I wasn't really feeling the start of the song. Sounds lofi/lossy at the start, like some high freqs were lost in the process and the mids have some pretty strong resonant parts at times. Some pops and clicks (maybe intentional) throughout as well. I was about ready to write the song off, when in the middle things started getting more interesting. Lead around 2:26 took me by surprise and drew me back into the song as a whole. This is what's keeping it on my playlist I think. I think OA said it well, the production might be weak, but some good arrangement here and a few instruments/nuances that bring up the overall level of the song.
  20. Man, this song's been on my playlist forever. I never seem to get tired of it. Yeah, there are plenty of chrono trigger mixes around, but this easily one of my favorite. I'm not always a fan of 4 on the floor, but E-Bison pulls it off in a fashion that doesn't grate on me. Combination of solid production and constantly evolving arrangement really makes this song shine out. Creative use of voice clips here too - another thing I normally don't care for, but pulled off great here. Only bummer to me is the low bitrate due to the length of the mix. I'd really love to hear a higher-quality version. Overall, well done, this is one song on OCR that's aged extremely well. Looking forward to more of your stuff *cough* xenogears project *cough EDIT: Self help lyrics as best I can hear them: We all know that time is limited That a day's worth has to be accomplished in the same finite 24 hours that we have Some of us do it Most do some of it Some others procrastinate And some never get around to it Those that get things done and do them well know the right way And that's time management
  21. Very beautiful remix here. Vocals sound great, very good processing on them. Good use of harmonies and vocals as background fillers in addition to main lyrics. That said, I would've like to hear a more polished beat that makes some changes to keep it interesting. Overall, the backing track is pretty basic, but it's the vocals that are center stage here, and they're excellent.
