  1. Bummer, missed out on voting by a few hours. And that would've been the tiebreaker . Last time we had a 3-way tie, Rexy voted to break it. So, it's not unheard of.
  2. Beautiful music here and great arrangment and development of themes. Funny thing is, I recently started a Dark World orchestral arragement myself. Needless to say, it's now officially scrapped . I really would've liked to hear this song to full-bore on the main Dark World theme, but despite that, it's still a very pleasing arrangement. The Death Mountain section really brought back memories of the first time I reached that point in the game (yeah, the rabbit part). Pieces that bring back this kind of nostalga are my favorite listens. Well done.
  3. Wow, so, yeah... I can see that this hasn't gotten much attention so far. Anyway, live saxophone: http://nutritious3.googlepages.com/FF5-MainTheme_6a_2.mp3
  4. Thanks, Jeremy. I doubled up a sampled sax (I'm too lazy to record my own for this) with the higher trumpet, added some low piano, low brass, and pumped some of the compression: http://nutritious3.googlepages.com/GundamMusicTest2.mp3 I wasn't able to figure out how the mid/low piano chords (the A minor) you referred to fit in. Are there certain beats where each inversion is played? Admittedly, I couldn't even hear piano in the original. Hah! That vid was epic. Kinda makes me glad I only started with gundam wing though .
  5. Hey guys, here's a new song I've been working on a lot the past couple weeks: http://nutritious3.googlepages.com/FF5-MainTheme_6.mp3 It encorporates parts of both the Main Theme (Ahead on our Way) and Four Valiant Hearts songs from FF5. Premise is cinematic orchestral with a saxophone solo lead. Eventually, the saxophone will be recorded live (when I have time, ugh), so I'm only looking for feedback on the rest of the orchestraction (production as well as arrangement) and the arrangement on the saxophone part. Only other exception is the 4-note run near 2:44 when the saxophone plays completely solo: That'll end up being just a free solo for whatever I come up with at the time, while the orchestra waits until it finishes to come back in - the 4 notes are just placeholders.
  6. http://www.ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=14541 Time to let this thread go, guys
  7. Yeah, I was wondering about that. I tried reloading that one specific sample and couldn't get it to work, but I guess if I reload all of them, it'll probably work. Anyway, I probably won't on this song because it's basically complete at this point. Hopefully, this will prevent it from happening again in the future. Thanks for your help.
  8. Hey guys, I'm trying to emulate the style/sound of some of the music from the gundam series. Basically, I'm trying to get that brass-heavy rock/orchestra type sound. Here's what I've got so far: Original: http://nutritious3.googlepages.com/GundamSample.mp3 My Attempt: http://nutritious3.googlepages.com/GundamMusicTest.mp3 Second Attempt: http://nutritious3.googlepages.com/GundamMusicTest2.mp3 Now, I'm not trying to remix or copy the music exactly - I'm just looking for ways to get the same type of sound or feel for other songs. I figured this didn't belong in WIPs since I'm really looking for imput and advice to get this closer to the right feel. And yeah, I realize it's a lot of (if not all) live instrumentation, which can't completely be emulated, but I want to get as close as possible. Thanks EDIT: Just to note, I'm working in FL Studio with EWQLSO Silver, some samples and some soundfonts on this so far.
  9. Ok, Kompakt updated, DFD extenstion now installed. Still getting this problem, but it's only with this specific project. If I open a new project, open the same patch, then play the note, it doesn't get "stuck". I guess it could be the amount of different samples open right now. I'm not even sure now DFD was on before installing this extension. Having DFD either on or off makes no difference with this problem, though. Ok, check this out, just loaded the same patch on a different slot (8 instead of 5) and it works fine. I even reloaded the sample on slot 5 and tried that one again and it SITLL has the problem. I guess I'm just going to use this alternate slot instead, since it seems to be working. Go figure. Thanks guys.
  10. Ok, turned on Rendering Mod Notify, but it doesn't seem to make a difference - the notes still cutoff mid-note. I did try rendering the pattern with RMN both on and off, but it rendered properly either way. I'm just hoping I can get it to play correctly within FL so I can hear it as I'm composing. Do you mean Direct Sound buffers? Or is there something else that controls this? I'm not familiar with anything to change DFD buffers. Uppling Direct Sound buffers didn't seem to make a difference. 2 GB of ram on a 'relatively' new dual core laptop. Updating the actual Kompakt program or what? I just got this, so I'd like to assume it's up to date, but I guess you never know. EDIT: Ok, so I see in the instructions file that it says to go to the DFD options menu, but I can't seem to find it. the DFD button is kind of greyed out and the options button takes me only to general options. Still trying to figure it out...
  11. I've been using EWQLSO Silver inside FL Studio with the Kompakt plugin for a little over a month now. In general, it works great, but i've hit a few issues that I can't seem to figure out (though I can work around them usually): -Instruments cutting out suddenly for no explicable reason, then suddenly cutting back in. For example, I have a song where I'm using some tremolo violins playing a two and a half measure sustained note. After one measure, they just cut out. Then, they'll cut back in for the last two beats before the next note comes in. This happens regardless of CPU load, playing either pattern or playlist (except, they cut out even longer when playing pattern) -When switching to a new sample in the Kontakt player, sometimes the instrument won't play initially when clicking on the piano preview keys. If you click play or stop on fl studio, though, it will suddenly play all the notes you just hit on the piano keys. It will also cause the instrument to start working properly again. There are some others, but I can't think of them at the moment. Has anyone else run into similar problems with any of this stuff? Is it how it integrates with FL Studio? Is it just Kompakt being buggy? So far, I've hardly messed with the settings in Kompakt itself, because most of what I need to do can be done in my DAW instead - in other words, I'm not really wanting to upgrade to a different player when I won't really use the features.
  12. I've had similar calls recently from some collections agency for a person I didn't know. I told them to take me off their calling list. They said they would, but I kept getting calls. I told them again to take me off their calling list and the second time it worked. So, even if it's collections, I think you can request they stop calling and they have to comply. A worse situation for me, though, was when I started getting 1-2 calls a day from random people across the country asking if I'd just called them. Apparently, my number was showing up on their caller ID under some random company name (ACE Corporation or something). When they'd pick up the phone, it would just be dead air on the other side. I was probably just the victim of caller ID spoofing, which is all kinds of lame. What really made me mad was that most of the people were elderly and had trouble getting to their phones in time to answer. So, they'd just call back whomever showed up on the caller ID. One guy in particular was probably in his 70's and 80's and said he was blind, so it was hard to get to his phone when it rang - which is why he called back. I mean, I can handle the occasional annoyance that this type of stuff can cause, but people like him don't need to be bothered by this crap.
  13. Yeah, but that's what I loved about that level. It was a great challenge, even if you're not going for speed. That thing had me hooked until I finally beat him. THEN, I STILL wanted to play to see how fast I could do it.
  14. Great interview, thanks for the link. It's always interesting to read a bit of the inside story for some of your favorite games.
  15. Happy birthday... BGC... Have you figured out what it means yet?...
  16. Well, electronic isn't my best genre, but I'll try and give some criticism: -There's no real intro here. It's just kind of a slow drum beat with a few elements kind of fading in. You need to establish a "hook" here to get the listener's attention. -It's difficult to discern the various sections here. Basically, it's lacking coherent structure. Drums kind of change beats a bit randomly, the various sounds a lot of times just keep playing the same bars and just get layered on top of each other. Try to get the parts to compliment each other better so the listener can hear what you're trying to convey in each section. -Drum writing is weak here. Needs more interesting beatwork I'd say and a probably a better snare. -Things in general are drowning in reverb, especially the drums. Cut back so we can get some clarity from the parts there. -Balancing needs work. Phased pads are covering up a lot of the stuff here, which also doesn't help clarity. Mid range is really crowded in places. I might sound overly negative, but don't get discouraged. I honestly think this piece needs a lot of work, though. You may or may not decide to continue working on this piece, but don't give up on writing. Keep practicing
  17. You could use google analytics. Lots of information beyond just hit counts.
  18. Same here, since yesterday afternoon squaresound has been timing out.
  19. My mouth was literally hanging open for most of the trailer. Too bad I'll never get a 360 (or any current gen consoles)
  20. Good question, because if you noticed, MIDI's are also an acceptable format to submit songs in.
  21. Yeah, I asked this question on the comments field of my registration, so hopefully we'll know exactly what it means soon.
  22. Guys, check the SCS board if you get a chance.
  23. I was trying to think up an original nickname back around 2001. Started looking around the room and saw the wrapper for the granola bar I was eating. Nutritional Facts became Nutritious.
