  1. Just wanted to say I listened to Perchance to Dream when you posted it in an earlier thread and really enjoyed it. Espers sounds really nice too, I like this style you're developing. I'm really into ambient music and these feel very natural which is probably the most important thing. The new age touch adds a nice flavour to the textures, I think you're really on to something here! I'm sure everyone can relate to the feeling of detachment you get after working on the same project for too long. Personally I find that after I've been working on something more than two weeks it starts to get hard to tell if I'm still on the right track. Usually best to just take a couple days and not even listen to it, then when you come back to it try to imagine you're someone listening for the first time and really get a feel for what your listeners are going to be thinking. Also, and I'm personally bad for this too, but forcing yourself to work on a track when you aren't inspired isn't necessarily a good idea. Sometimes starting something new will cause you to come around to different ideas for the track you were working on in the first place.
  2. If you're talking about FFXI, they've said that they're going to keep the servers going for as long as there are players. If the population starts to dwindle they'll probably merge servers so that each one still feels populated. Even if it goes as far as getting compressed down to just 1 remaining server I bet they'll keep it going for a looong time. I mean, just look at Everquest
  3. This makes me happy. Also makes me wonder how they're gonna pull it off. To get anything done in FFXI you had to log on for at least 2 or 3 hours.
  4. This really caught my attention today. I played a lot of FFXI back in the day and even recently restarted playing casually. I've been moving away from playing games on my PC though, so to be able to play on PS3 on my couch with a widescreen tv sounds promising I just hope they make PvP more accessible, that was my only complaint with XI.
  5. I've been on the recieving end of some NOes for technicalities, and honestly each time it happened the judges all said my remixes were well done irregardless. Just pointing out that they didn't tell me I was awful because I didn't meet some arbitrary arrangement percentage, but instead encouraged what I did well and I learned what not to do if I wanted more remixes up here. I was still kind of sour about it at first anyways but life goes on Perhaps calling them submission standards allows for some misinterpretation. Standards sounds like the short form of "quality control standards", and while I'm sure most of the submissions aren't high enough quality anyways, the people who make the remixes that are of high quality that have gotten rejected anyways would feel like they were told "sorry, its not good enough for our standards", which... well, it's hard to explain but it doesnt sound very pleasant right? What I'm trying to say is that it's all in the semantics. On the subject this thread was originally about, I just wanna say that I've been following (lurking) around this place for about 8 years now and I honestly find myself downloading more remixes now than I ever used to. All the "regulars" have gotten really good and the standards are at the right place that I can feel comfortable downloading a remix from a new mixer I've never even heard of before.
  6. Dude this is so well mastered, it has all kinds of polish! Shaping up to be one of your best (maybe the best), keep it up!
  7. I really enjoyed this! Its surprisingly subtle considering everything else I've heard from you. I mean, I can tell a lot of work went into it, the sound you crafted is almost like.. chillectro (if I can feel free to make up a genre for it haha). It's really cool anyways I'll give you a vote if I can figure this website out!
  8. I love that synth lead! This track is extremely well done and appropriate for the style of game. Makes me wish I had a 360..
  9. Hey I just checked it for you, Purity is 136 bpm! Actually, quite a few of my mixes are 136, maybe I should mix it up a bit..

Anyways if you end up stepping it you should send me a link so I can check it out :)

  10. I've always wondered if anyone would do this track. Totally awesome! This remix is really well done!
  11. Looks pretty nice I guess. I don't think I really "get" this product- don't these features already exist in every other major DAW? The time strectching seems nice but I thought Live does the same thing (I don't use Live though so who knows). Seems like the whole point is the easier to use workflow, and I do appreciate how ease of use changes and speeds up the creative process. Well, I guess I'm not the target market so I'll just sit back and see how its recieved.
  12. You know, I can't help but appreciate that OCR is the perfect venue for a track like this. It's hard to imagine something like this in the commercial scene, and I don't mean that as a diss because this track is 100% kickass, I mean that as a props to OCR for being a hub for lots of unique music! There's a large amount of rock, dance and orchestral style remixes up here, but this track is truely its own beast and it makes me wonder what other unique remixes I've missed along the way.
  13. This is tight! Sounds like it could've been in Command and Conquer: Generals. You should add some didgeridoo to the mix, it would sound dope!
  14. FLStudio sure goes about this simple effect in such a weird way. I've gotten used to it but it'll be nice if FL9 actually gives us something better. Still, this is an essential tutorial for anyone looking to make techno with FL Studio! Here's another tip for using sidechain compression: when you drop out your kick for a breakdown or fill, the sidechain compression will stop happening too which means the "pumping" effect will suddenly stop. Sometimes this is what you're going to want, but other times you'll want it to keep pumping even when the kick isn't there. So, to keep the effect active, keep the kick going and turn on an automated muter after the peak controller in the FX chain. This way the kick is still going, and feeding the pump for that sidechain, but the kick is also muted so you won't hear it during those calmer moments.
  15. And Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. And Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction. And Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, and Killzone 2, and Resistance 2. Then there's Motorstorm and Motorstorm: Pacific Rift. There's the online-only Warhawk. For an exclusive RPG it has Folklore. An exclusive racing game, Formula One Championship Edition. Exclusive beat-em-up, Heavenly Sword. Lair, Valkyria Chronicles, SingStar and SOCOM: Confrontation. Let's not forget downloadable exclusives like fl0w, Ratchet and Clank Future: Quest for Booty and Wipeout HD. Or upcoming exclusives, like Uncharted 2: Honour Among Theives, God of War III, or full Gran Turismo 5. Sure it doesn't have as many exclusives as the 360, but it has plenty. I'd take these over Halo, Gears and those iffy Squareenix titles anyways (Last Remnant, I'm looking at you).
  16. Although I haven't read any self-help books, I've read books on similar subjects, and have listened to recordings, watched videos, and read articles and blogs on the internet. In everything I've read, I've noticed a recurring message. What it comes down to is that you are what you think you are. We forge our own realities based on how we percieve our world. People who seem to have everything going right for them are in that situation because they believed things would fall into place. On the flipside, people who are stuck in a rut are there because they think the world is out to get them. A quote that sums this pretty well is actually from a book on negotation. Herb Cohen says, "Power is based upon perception- if you think you've got it then you've got it. If you think you don't have it, even if you've got it, then you don't have it." He's talking about the power to get the upper hand in a deal, but we empower ourselves in our day to day lives in the same way. Which is to say, believing in ourselves.

    OCR-Tan

Caramelldansen is a goofy internet meme where people make animated loops of characters doing a silly dance to the song "Caramelldansen - Caramell". For example, Super Smash Bros Caramelldansen -

    OCR-Tan

I wonder how long it'll be until someone makes an OCR-tan caramelldansen? With FL-chan for good measure!
  19. Man, Top Gear 2 was such a great game, and this is such a great remix! Makes me so happy to hear this
  20. I read this, and thought it was really cool, and then I forgot to gratulate you! Congratulations dude! Hopefully this is the first of many great opportunities for you and your team
  21. That's a good point. There has to be a better way, though The Coop said pretty much what I would have.
  22. I really love the idea of DLC but so far my experience with it on the PS3 has been mediocre. Now I'm going to bitch about it: Soul Calibur IV: Oodles and oodles of DLC that is ALREADY ON THE DISC! They locked out the content (costumes and YODA) from users and required us to pay an additional fee to use it. Uh, no. Fallout 3: 360 users get the DLC. PS3 users don't get the DLC. Considering how much time I put in to that game, I would have really liked being able to play the additional stuff... Wipeout HD: A downloadable game that came with the promise of more playable tracks in the form of DLC. Now I haven't checked in the last 2 weeks but it seems like half a year has gone by and still no DLC And yes, I would like some cheese with my wine.
  23. What a tangent this thread has gone off on! And I have to say, it's pretty clear that everyone in this argument has missed the point. Can we at least agree that the subject currently at hand is gray area and that there will most certainly be changes in the years the come? The reason employers aren't allowed to ask certain questions in a job interview is to protect potential employees from discrimination. It's unfair to a person to be denied a job because of their ethnicity or because they plan on having children. The point (that I claimed everyone missed) is that it is unethical for employers to hire-or-not based on this information. It is completely irrelevant how they acquire this information, be it from a job interview, a personal website or anything else. What really matters is whether or not they use this information to discrimate against prospective employees. Now, as the majority of the judge's panel has already claimed, most employers are checking facebooks and myspaces to establish character, that's all. But, if these hypothetical employers find out from your website that you are of a different religious influence than they are and choose not to hire you because of that, that would be unethical and probably illegal. Hopefully this sort of thing doesn't happen very often, but discimination is a real thing and it seems inevitable to me that the laws (assuming there are any) concerning employers googling their employees will eventually be revised concerning this.
  24. I told myself I'd donate once I got paid, and so now you guys have $20USD from me as well! I forgot to stick my forum username in my donation though It should say it's from Shawn Overn incase you don't believe me! If it weren't for this website I might never have discovered video game music remixes, and I might not have taken up the enjoyable hobby of remixing. What I owe this community is greater than my donation so I hope you'll all accept a big THANK YOU from me as well!
  25. Actually, its just a patch from Gladiator 2.. Seriously though, it's even the first sound from the demo on their website!
