I don't see any problem with it, although I noticed it didn't mention velocity sensing anywhere, (but I'd just assume it's in there).
-
I'm almost done, I'll get it finished mastered and uploaded in a few days.

If you're going through with this, then I'd strongly recommend getting it set up on ThaSauce, it makes things a lot easier for entrants and the person running the compo, plus it allows for easy catalogueing(?) of previous rounds which would be important for a compo like this.

First of all, nice move in getting the demos (assuming that's what you mean ), it's a first step that most newbies miss... Anyways, backwards engineering is a great way to learn, I find that just sitting down and reading a manual is useless because you don't know what they're talking about, and then you forget. I'd recommend using a quick video tutorial to learn where things are, then try and work your way through a first objective.(youtube or something although there are a few decent ones here; http://www.warbeats.com/Forums/tabid/59/forumid/24/page/2/view/Topics/Default.aspx) Start your first objective as something small, don't start right out with "make a good song" or you'll get frustrated. Start with something like "learn how to put notes in to play happy birthday" or something. Then if you get stuck, you know what you need help with, rather than needing help with "getting started" Good luck, and keep in mind that there are many others in your exact same position, so don't get discouraged.

how do i get the kick to muffle the rest of the song?
Zephyr replied to jordex's topic in Music Composition & Production
I've fooled around with this a little, I love how easy it is in FL, (if you want you can avoid adding a gain effect and just use the mixer insert's volume slider) I also love that you can not only add an LFO to the signal, or even reverse the effect altogether, you can also set the tension of the effect and even set how much it affects it, a base value, decay level, or very easily have it modulate any parameter that you can tweak. I had some fun using sidechaining with EQUO, I had it so that every kick, the morph knob would jump, causing my bass guitar to get a sudden bass boost. I've also hooked it up to things like filter cutoff, and I've tried hooking it up to multiple channels at once, (having it turn down gain on some, and turn it up on others). You could also use it like a mod envelope of sorts, tweaking things automatically as the modulating sound changes volume. Sidechaining is pretty powerful, you just need to be a little creative with it. -
I don't have any pedals, so I can't at the moment, I just wish it either wasn't quite as loud or had the option to turn it off.

That's bizarre, I've never seen something like that before, I find it odd that they would make a combination like that, maybe a keyboard with USB ports for a mic or something... Hope you had exactly 37 keys in mind.

I have problems with Tascam's. I always hear a thunk after some notes, I don't know if it's to simulate realizm or not, but I don't like it there and I don't know how to turn it off.

Sounds interesting, although a little bit complicated, wouldn't it be easier to write lyrics for a song after the song is done though?

Orchestral samples, EWQLSO vs. GPO vs. Prosonus
Zephyr replied to Zephyr's topic in Music Composition & Production
How's the orchestral sample library in Kontakt (3)? -
I've never re-mixed anything in my life, so by my standards, I'll be lucky if I don't make my speakers explode! Hopefully I'll get it done in time.

CRAZY East West Deal! Buy 1 Get 1 Free!
Zephyr replied to big giant circles's topic in Music Composition & Production
It's on again? I thought it was just for that month... is it up every month this year or what? -
I'm in, I've started on something, it's not great, but it's something... I don't however want to win by default so we need more interest in this compo! We should have a sig or something for it.

Cheesy/Horrible/Memorable Quotes In Video Games
Zephyr replied to TheSnowStorm's topic in General Discussion
I have a few lesser known ones- "Oh crap." -Butz/Bartz from FFV (uttered upon witnessing the wind crystal shatter) "Leg's Go Megaman!" -Lan from Battle network 3 (these games are famous for translation problems) "You fool. Frogs haven't belly buttons!" -Frog, Chrono Trigger Assorted ones from the Monkey Island series- "Hmm, a rubber chicken with a pully in the middle. What possible use could that have." Guybrush: “At least I’ve learnt something from all of this.” Elaine: “What’s that?” Guybrush: “Never pay more than 20 bucks for a game.” Guybrush: “What do you know about lifting voodoo curses?” Murray: “Oh *sure*. I know a lot about lifting curses. That’s why I’m a disembodied talking skull, hanging on a spike, in the middle of a swamp!” Guybrush: “You sound bitter.” Murray: “I’m sorry, it’s been a rough day.” “That’s the second biggest monkey head I’ve ever seen!” Guybrush: If I gave you your arm back, what would you do with it? Murray: I’d terrorize the South Seas! I’d torture the living! I’d demolish the…er… What I meant to say was, I’d use it to pet kittens. Guybrush: Nope. You blew it. Murray: Drat. Yes, swinging a rubber chicken with a metal pully in the middle can be dangerous.... BUT IT'S NOT A SWORD!!!!!! -
Orchestral samples, EWQLSO vs. GPO vs. Prosonus
Zephyr replied to Zephyr's topic in Music Composition & Production
I haven't used any of the NI stuff yet, I've heard about from both positive and negative standpoints though, is Kompakt easy to use? I've also heard of people having compatability issues with it. -
Orchestral samples, EWQLSO vs. GPO vs. Prosonus
Zephyr replied to Zephyr's topic in Music Composition & Production
$479...nuff said -
Hey there everyone, I have a few questions, firstly I'm wondering what opinion everyone has about each of these different orchestral samplesets; Garritan Personal Orchestral, Prosonus, and East West Quantum Leap Symphonic Orchestra Silver edition. I've been thinking about getting an orchestral sample library because if you want to use any sort of orchestral sound in a song, you are most likely going to be stuck with a rather crappy sample (and may even take hours of searching just to find that). I've been leaning towards EWQLSO personnally, but I'd like to get some opinions about each library before investing. Also, I'm still relatively new to mixing and I'd like to know if most of you would deem this a worthy investment... thanks everyone.

Strange Popping Noises in FL 8
Zephyr replied to blue.nocturne's topic in Music Composition & Production
Stupid question here, but are you sure it's not just clipping? Play the song through with the output monitor visible in the top bar, does the bar turn red a lot? -
Get synth1, great free vst and synth. It may not look like much but it's powerful enough to emulate most of those sounds, even though it's pretty simple to use.
-
Projects are notoriously hard to get organized. Most of them die somewhere in the mixing stage because the deadline is constantly delayed and the re-mixers don't take enough initiative to get things done. Good luck though if you want to try it.
-
I'm curious as to what you need that FL studio can't offer, it may be a simple factor of you not knowing where to find it. As for latency, find your audio settings and check your soundcard drivers... are you using ASIO drivers? If not then use your soundcard's ASIO drivers or get ASIO4ALL then try to get your latency down to around 10 milliseconds, if your computer can't manage under 30 milliseconds you may need to upgrade something. Good luck!
-
It's hard to know what you mean, but just for working purposes do what DDR said. If you want the pattern to loop differently in the song, then you could either make a new pattern or slice this one up in the playlist.

I'm not particulairly proficient in styles, I'm more planning to do basic orientation tutorials for newbies, such as "this is the step sequencer, you load channels here, here's how the piano roll works, you can do this with it..." etc.
