  1. Raking in over $21B last year, a lineup of blockbuster games and steady console installation rates fueled record sales for the video game industry despite economic recession. However, an underwhelming software lineup and other factors will ensure this success is not repeated in 2009. Discuss. ps- if you like this thread please see the links in my sig to check out the UMD Gamer Symphony Orchestra and my weekly VGM radio program 8-Bit Radio!
  2. both of the ones released in the past 10 years. the ones that did nothing Devil May Cry hadn't done before it (aside from admittedly more difficult bosses). Ninja Gaiden for the xbawks (plus black, sigma for the PS3) and Ninja Gaiden II for the 360. Not saying they're bad games or that Ryu Hayabusa wouldn't hold his own in a fight, just that hacking everything in sight to pieces isn't the ideal thing for a ninja to do. Maybe selectively hacking things into pieces, and sneaking around the rest of the time
  3. good work, I think you really captured the feeling invoked by the very underrated source. the synths were awesome, and the drums set a very cool beat. good work! p.s. 100th post ftw!
  4. awesome synths, could really feel the organ in the background and the guitars really brought it out. kinda wishing the mix went a little further, but still very enjoyable. good work!
  5. I think a lot of people mentioned this before, but effing Mike Tyson. What can I say? This was really the first huge, almost insurmountable achievement in my gaming career. How old were most of us when we fought Mike Tyson? I was probably about 4. Aside from that, the first time I played Ocarina of Time stands out. I got it for my 10th birthday, and I knew from the first time I played it that it was special. Everything stands out, from the music to the dungeons to the game play. Every time I hear the piano from the start menu music it makes me think back
  6. XBL arcade games just feel different. "arcade" is an appropriate name, since many of them are geared towards multiplayer and make great party games. hell, some of them are lifted right off popular arcade games (castle crashers is a revamped gauntlet/tmnt/x-men). not to mention the uniqueness of how they are distributed. having some people over tonight and want to play streets of rage? go right online over XBL and buy it! this could really be the next big thing in buying video games. think I went off-topic a bit, but I do think there should be a distinction between regular xbonks games and xbla games.
  7. I honestly don't even see Ryu Hayabusa as a ninja any more. He's forsaken all elements of stealth, creativity, and cunning in his combat and instead has changed to over-the-top gory hack n' slash. This isn't a bad thing, it just puts him in the league of Dante and Kratos rather than Tenchu and Goemon. Quite honestly I think Batman and Solid Snake are better 'ninjas' then Ryu ever was. Of course I'd have to go with The Batman as my favorite all-time
  8. the drums and synths kind of remind me of Battletoads like this mix a lot, actually. the meandering synth part around 2:40 was very cool as well. fun times.
  9. I started listening to this mix with the intention of giving a review to the best of my very limited musical abilities, but I honestly just lost myself in thought as I listened. thought about things as I listened to it. I guess the title is very appropriate then the piano was very nice, and I liked it very much. honestly I can't say much more because I just kind of drift off every time I listen to it.
  10. very retro feel to it, enjoyed it quite a lot. the synths on the melody were very nice, and I liked the fast synths scattered here and there. the break around 2:00 was nice as well. good work.
  11. very cool mix, takes the melody and makes some very subtle permutations on it. the drum and clap tracks help to fill up the space in between. good work!
  12. I like the arrangement, I'm just not crazy about the warbly guitar synth. it sounds really chill and everything else works together well, but I can't really get over the guitar synth.
  13. liked the harp synths, especially at the beginning. the drums were a good touch, kind of reverberated and gave it that extra umph. liked the melody and how it developed towards the end. good work!
  14. love the synths, the bass, the drums all sound great. the sound effects give it that extra sense of immersion, as do the elevator noises. really high production values on this one, enjoyed it a lot and will be coming back to it!
  15. wow. when listening to the voice clips at the beginning, thought the guy said "now you wouldn't think about setting me up the bomb, would you?" Pretty sure that's not what he said, but if it was then an internets to you, sir. The string synths were pretty good throughout, and I liked how you used the bass to interrupt them and go on to the next segment. good mix, sir.
  16. the opening is awesome, love the synths. kind of retro, then the guitar really livens things up. things were a little repetitive at points, but overall it was a good mix that was very enjoyable. Liked to outro too. Good work.
  17. sounds a bit different than the source, but definitely maintains the fun tone. I'm not ashamed to admit having raised more than a few Chao, and this mix really captures the frantic, goofy, awesome fun of the Chao races. Good times.
  18. yes, I am. and this thread wins the award for "lasting far longer than I thought it would" and has convinced me to include some 'non-serious' element in each of the 'serious' posts I make from now on. And on that note, UMD Gamer Symphony Orchestra concert recordings are up, click the link in my sig to visit our homepage. thanks guys, keep the suggestions coming!
  19. Very nice, the trumpet at the beginning sounded a little meh but I really liked the arrangement. Just a different choice of synth maybe. The rest of it is awesome. Good job!
  20. I hardly even remembered the music to frogger, but I guess I'm just a youngin'. My favorite part was around 2:45 with the funky keys. good job of building upon the source material!
  21. wondering where this mix was going to go for the first minute or so, but it develops into something all unto its own. a lot of mixes from the chrono series are a little straightforward, but this one takes things into a new direction. good work!
  22. liked the synths a lot, especially the wah-wah sound (I can think of no other word to describe it) and the accelerating feeling you get as it moves along. very cool and unique sounding.
  23. very mellow, cool mix. love the echo on the piano, makes it feel like you're listening in a wide, open space. excellent piece to chill to. will be coming back to this one!
  24. love the synths in the background that sound like plucking violins, set a very unique mood. the way it progresses almost feels like sneaking out of the darkness into the light. feels like spy music taken to the next level. good work, you've won over a new fan!
  25. woah, just reviewed a very different mix of the same source. this one stands in stark comparison to the first, especially the harpsichord-like synths. awesome job.
