Oh man Apogee - my brothers and I played the hell out of monster bash, crystal caves, and Duke Nukem when we were younger. I always loved the sound effects of shooting the skull heads in monster bash - but once the computer got upgraded, they never sounded the same What ever happened to Apogee? Imagine if they continued their quality and fun gameplay into the modern era...

Just found this thread - and I just wanted to say that you guys are awesome! Also, no matter what happens, you guys should just pit Amphibious vs Xenon Odyssey and Main Finger vs Superior X together in a bonus round - because Rusty Ruin vs Hydrocity and Chemical Plant vs Lava Reef would be hot.

I can't wait to try this - I've been out of the smash scene for quite a while and completely forgot about this. Too bad someone took my copy of brawl =\... I'll see if glyde has a copy for cheap.

I can't be THAT upset about day 1 DLC in this case. Now, if it was on disk DLC, that's different, because that was completed in time to make gold. But they mentioned a couple months ago that the collector's edition was going to have an extra character/mission. No one threw a fit then. But they decide to offer it as DLC and all of a sudden the shit hits the fan. That said, sure, it would have been nice to be free for those that buy the game new, but really, what wouldn't be nice to get free?

I like the mix of ice cap and green hill, but I feel the track as a whole is missing something. It's hard to describe, but I'll give it a shot: the track feels cohesive for the most part, which is great, but it all sounds too similar, like I'm listening to the same thing for most of it. It needs more variation, maybe another instrument in some areas, and definitely a break from the traditional ice cap melody/bass line. Ice cap has been done to death around here, so it needs more to stand out (especially since you don't really play with the melody at all). Maybe more green hill, less focus on the unaltered ice cap melody?

My wife and I have actually used Allegiant Air several times to fly from NC to Orlando, FL to visit family/friends, and have paid for others a bunch of times to fly to come visit us (since their tickets are so dirt cheap). We were never hit with any hidden fees (though my wife remembers the up-front fees being a little high, it was still super cheap in total), and the service was always what we expected on the flight (it wasn't "best ever" but it certainly wasn't rude) - they smiled and were polite. We were skeptical at first, but we always recommend flying with them now if the options exists. I would give them a shot. I have never flown with them on a long flight (they don't have many destinations, which is what helps keep the cost down), and don't know if it is a worse experience flying with them on a longer flight. Note: We always bought our tickets from their website - maybe that matters for fees?

How could I NOT want to be a fan of the man who kept me playing piano for so long? Seriously, I would have stopped playing piano a long time ago had it not been for the FFVII piano book that I used for my lessons instead of the boring other "traditional" books. One of my recital pieces was Cait Sith's theme leading into Still More Fighting halfway through the second play.

It seems to drag on a bit until the drums start at around the 50 second or so mark, but then it's rather nice. Perhaps shortening the intro and lengthening another section may make it better? Or perhaps inserting some new melody playing with the one already there to spice up the intro. Just suggestions, of course. Don't know what others think.

I would like to say "Congrats!" to Sephire and the team for getting EA to sit down with them. That's pretty awesome that they would take the time to sit down. Are all of you going? When is it? I hope it's not something "Yeah, we'll sit down and take...in about 8 months."

So, I've never really been a fan of orchestral music. To me, it's also been... bland. Sure, there's some tempo changes and a lot of dynamics, but there was nothing interesting melodically. It was mostly... filler, I guess. But Kotaku ran a story about an HDR time lapse video called The Chapel. I went to the composer's website (http://www.tomasleonhardt.com/) to find out a bit about him. He has a whole bunch of his music on his site to listen to or download. All of it is really good. And all of it is orchestral. This is how I think orchestral music should be. Imagine this guy doing video game soundtracks? Obviously not every genre would work, but I can DEFINITELY see my Shepard going up against the reapers to this guy's music (not that I have anything against the amazing music of the series so far, I'm just saying that I think it would be a good fit for a similar type of epic). Does anyone know of any other good orchestral music?

So Burnout Paradise is on sale for a whopping 5 bucks. I was tempted to get it last year... is it worth the $5? I've played Burnout 3 on console and from what I remember I liked it. I have a PS3 controller that I would probably use to control it if I don't like the keyboard controls.

If it helps, I have put 200 hours into it. Also, the mod scene is great and will add variety to it after beating it vanilla gets a little stale for you.

I won't be able to participate in Steam's black friday sales for myself since I'll be getting myself a PS3 this year. I do hope, however, that they offer Mass Effect for $5 again this year so I can get it for my father who likes a) shooters and sci fi.

My understanding is that the store (in this case Games For Windows Live) buys the keys from the publisher. If they only bought 40,000 (made-up number) and more than 40,000 people buy the game, then GFWL needs to buy more keys from the publisher. This happened about a year ago when Steam had Prey for $5 around Thanksgiving. It was the first time I had ever seen a digital download run out of keys.

Now if they can only score Sonata Arctica's Don't Say A Word for playing... with keys it would be AMAZING.

Do you guys know if the convolution algorithms you are using are exact or approximate, or are your IRs less than a second long? I ask because using matlab's conv() function (which is pretty optimized, even for parallel processing) on a dry signal of 5 seconds in length with an IR 1 second in length at 44.1K samples/sec took about 55 seconds to complete (I forget the specs of the machine, but it was definitely at least dual-core 2GHz/core), which cannot be done in real time. If the convolution reverb functions are approximate and only use the first couple of echoes I can see it being done in real time.

Do you have to supply your own impulse responses? How long is an average impulse response that you use? And how much time does it take for the convolution function to finish (I know it's highly variable based on the length of the IR an dry signal, but a common length would be good to know - basically, is it something like 2 minutes or 30+ minutes)? Sorry for all the questions, I am just trying to get a feeling for the current situation.
