The "vibrato by jiggling the key sideways" thing is certainly something I instinctively try to do when playing a synth

This piece of music is alive!

New version!
I made the snare track less busy, made bass more prominent and did other mixing tweaks to make it less busy. Didn't do anything with the structure though.
---
edit: oops, I accidentally continued an older version of the track, instead of the latest one.

Thank you sggod89 for thoughtful vote comments!

I think I'd finally like to match my forum name with my ReMixer name, "Eino Keskitalo" - thanks!

I usually listen by ear. This is a lot of work, but with practice it becomes easier. I usually might only just learn specific parts of the source, not everything. For example, just figuring out the melody is often a lot easier than figuring out the backing track. And it's also quite fun to reharmonize the backing. You kind of get the "personalization" of the arrangement for free. Though I have to say earlier I was a lot more careless about the source tune when transcribing, where now I'm more interested in actually learning how it goes. But you can start "easy" with just the melody. Depends on what you want.
Like HH360 says, someone might have transcribed the source tune into a MIDI already. These can be useful. That said, I haven't found a nice flow to working with them. They usually end up constraining the track too much for my liking, compared to me transcribing the original myself.

If we could get participation and voting up that would be great I think!
PRC was quite popular in the early days, when forum activity was a bigger thing. It made sense to pick sources that were less popular to get more exposure for the sources themselves. But I'm now thinking maybe it would be good for the competition if more well known familiar sources would bring attention to the competition.

Thank you sggod89 !!
Originally I think the restriction of "no OCR ReMixed tunes in PRC" was to highlight more obscure tunes and perhaps get more variety to OCR eventually due to compo -> submissions. I support this, but I think other things are now more important for PRC... So these days I would allow those more popular sources again, perhaps that would add life and interest to the compo!!
I do think it's a good idea to not have the same source over and over again. The one-year limit sounds all right to me!
The "rematch" idea sounds fun but hard to manage!

Cool goal and congrats for achieving it! I can see how with such a goal both the speed and quality would come up. Do you think you'll keep up a regimen like this? It sounds like you were able to keep it fresh for yourself for a year?

Mmm, a free round over the holidays, always so tempting ...!

Great stuff if you ask me!

Oh my Water Goddess Mitula!! Shining Force II is soooo good and Motoaki Takenouchi is such a fantastic composer. I also would like some _sleep_ in my life but if I can't find time for this round what is even the point.

There we go, finally edited this a bit ..

I _think_ I addressed the lead panning a bit, at least one of the flutes seems to lean to the right.
I mixed the arpeggio a lot lower.
Didn't change the structure, but added a little bit of warbly pad towards the end to fill out the soundscape a little bit.
Probably will write a submission letter soon!

Sweet stuff! A pleasant surprise as the style wasn't indeed what I'd have expected from DDRKirby(ISQ). Super good chill mood here, with sort of a restrained "bubbling under" feel. There's something under the surface ... and what a wonderful transformation of the original source tune!

Terrific mood! Wonderful soundscape!

The source tune is basically Incy Wincy Spider in this one. Lemmings OST had a lot of (if not all of it) public domain music.
-
Excellent album! Sweet tunes for while working. Have shared around.

Super cool SNES techno!
