the main difference being PC gaming has a bloated piece of shit (or at least inefficient compared to consoles) operating system to run while it is running the game. A console has a minimal operating system. I don't understand why gaming operating systems haven't come out yet. Have an xbox like OS, but for the computer. Does anyone know the actual system specs of the xbox and how it compares to a computer? edit: is vista any good? I have heard it takes more ram, but the processing might be more efficient?

lies I remember when I first started and listened to some remix. It had this back and forth swishy sound and I was like "omfg this guy is the king of music. How the fuck is he making that awesome sound?" Today I can look back and confidently say he was using a high pass filter routed to an lfo the whole song lol. I guess get reason demo and mess around with it. Lots of others too. Traktion, reaper, fl studio, live, sonar, pro tools, and loads more music apps out there. Just make sure you pick one with a sequencer, a mixer, and vst compatibility.

dammit - need < $200 MP3 player suggestions
Lunahorum replied to supremespleen's topic in General Discussion
search ebay for "fruit mp4" I got mine for $30. It is 2 gig with 3" screen. The player is really small, not much bigger than the 3" screen, and easily fits in the pocket. Kicks the shit out of the ipod unless you honestly need your whole damn library on the stupid player. It does video, txt files, mp3, jpg, and some other stuff. -

Rap: Insert mp3 of popular song without vocals. Insert acapella of song. Mute some words of the original and insert catch phrases pertaining to the video game being remixed. -

Free Tape606 sample pack... Merry Christmas !
Lunahorum replied to huggie's topic in Music Composition & Production
wow thanks merry christmas -
well then he needs a female to female adapter for the end piece. The sound card out is a left rca and a right rca. Same with in. They are not pre-amped, but they are plenty loud through headphones I find. Same with playing a guitar into it.
-
get something like this, but with the appropriate end. I use one of these but with a female to female plug on the end of it so I can plug headphones into it. I have another one for input except there is a 1/8 to 1/4 female to female plug on the end for guitar and such. I also have a 1/4 guitar cable. for my speakers, I use rca cables and something to convert the 1/8 back into rca (because I would rather change the cables in front of my face instead of fiddling around behind the computer) Then there are rca left and right extenders running to each speaker. And that is my wiring setup. It has a lot of converters (1/8 to 1/4, rca to 1/8, ect), but I don't know if converters degrade the signal at all. I don't think they do??? If they do please say so.
-
ya mine are the stock 3' L/R rca with 1/8" Stereo jack on end the diamond-encrusted plutonium core shit generally does nothing to help your sound quality. laughing at that so loud lol so loud.
-
yes I have the same exact card. Go to radio shack buy 2 stereo rca to stereo 1/8. One for input and one for output. Also if you want, buy some female to male converters, a long cable stereo cable, and some 1/4-1/8 adapters if you play guitar. edit: this cost me about $10 for all of the stuff. I guess you can go with super expensive super shielded cables too. I dk. Considering I don't have an acoustically perfect room, speakers, software, or hardware, it seems kind of silly to buy expensive cables. DOUBLE EDIT WWWOAAAH So did you buy this card from that other guy?

I just found a sweeeeeet guide to compression. It was called mixing_with_bfd.pdf and it was meant to go with the bfd vst, but it was extremely useful none the less, and explained what all the things on a compressor did, both at extreme and normal values. That BFD2 kit looks awesome ed http://www.kvraudio.com/news/5721.html here is link to guide I read the whole guide (whew that was long) and they mention something about processing mixed kits. I am guessing a mixed kit means you sample for example a kick and snare from two different recording sessions. I thought all the drums use different mics anyways so what is the difference if the drum is from the same kit or not?
-
I really appreciate all the help. I am slowly approaching the point where I can use effects to get what I want instead of fiddling around until it sounds ok. Thanks again.
-
that sounds really good. what guitar and drums are you using? Also, how do you make the kick drum sound clicky? Thanks a bunch. ed: I tried this, but it isn't quite right. Maybe I just have to play guitars and bass on top of the click kick to make it sound right?

I read an interesting article about applying convolution reverb effects to mimic the acoustic properties of cave or a hall. I am not sure about the process, but it has something to do with recording a beep in the hall or cave and comparing it to the original signal. Anyways I thought it was neat, but I was wondering if any of you have ever used it. Or is the standard cave reverb vst no different to our human perception? It's too late tonight, but maybe tomorrow I will make a quick mp3 of a banjo in different acoustical atmospheres and see if I can tell the difference.

Thanks it was very helpful. I know how to do in fl what you did. You just right click the lfo amplitude/amount and link it to the mod wheel controller. Is that what you do in reason? Ya that 2nd octave overtone sine wave is straight up jordan rudess. He has an article on his site about making it. Has like 7 synths layered together and one of them is that sine wave "feedback" thing. cool way cool. So when you have a filter in an oscillator, does the filter ever move up and down corresponding with the notes your are playing or does it just stick in one spot? To my ears, it sounds like it is staying in one spot, but I have beginner ears and just want to make sure. I'll try this and post what I come up with. Thanki sai edit: what is the difference between overdrive, saturation, drive, and distortion. Aren't they all the same thing?? (yes I googled it and all I found was a forum with people arguing over the same thing)
-
yes it has chorus, delay, and distortion. Maybe I need to run it through a real distortion stomp box instead of cheesy FL Distort edit: and yes the one at 2:34

I really want to know how they get that tone. The metal bands children of bodom, dragon force, sonata arctica, ect all have the same type of lead keyboard tone. I am trying to replicate it with synth 1. It's close but theirs sounds more "poofy" It's hard to describe. Here is a demo and the synth 1 patch which you should place in C:\Program Files\Synth1\soundbank01\006.sy1 and rename the last part to whichever patch you want it to be. http://h1.ripway.com/max97230/006.sy1 http://h1.ripway.com/max97230/synthdemo.mp3 edit: I took a band pass sweep with the eq looking for "non poofy" sounds and found some around 200hz. I cut those with a notch filter and it sounds a little bit better, but it is still not quite the tone I am trying to mimic. Here is an example - . Parental warning - lots of swearing.

how do I turn automation clips into pattern clips?
Lunahorum replied to Lunahorum's topic in Music Composition & Production
say I right clicked on a knob and clicked edit events in piano roll. Then I converted that data to an automation clip. Is there any way to convert back to the piano roll? -

Lunahorum replied to Lunahorum's topic in Music Composition & Production
yea he was trying to sell me on getting a sub with a 80hz cross over or something like that, but the sub was too expensive. Maybe I'll add it in later if 53hz isn't low enough. -
i am still trying to perfect my fast pawn promotion strategy. It involves sacrificing the queen in hopes of getting another queen with the pawn already at the other side of the board.
