love the piano

This is the dam theme from goldeneye. I think/know it sucks, but I would like to know what fixes would be good. I have thought about going for a 4 on the floor techno groove and mixing the melodies up a bit. This link is pretty much the original version with different instruments. Looking forward to criticism/feedback/ect

i bet tensei san knows. He posted a drum thing in guitar pro a while back.

thanks for the vid

I have done a truss rod adjustment before. The frets were buzzing so I bent the neck up a little bit so it formed more of a ) than a | My action is really high though. I have not been too pleased with my guitar. Crappy bridge trem. Why the hell do they put trems that suck on perfectly good guitars? I wish I would have known when I bought it.

let me know how the GBXL strings work once you get them. Thanks I have ordered 1 package of dr tite-fits

Since I learned quite a bit from the guitar strings thread, I figured I would start this thread too. I didn't think it made a whole lot of difference what strings were used, but I was mistaken. I also think it doesn't matter what pick is used, but maybe I will be mistaken here too. so... What kinds of picks do you guys use? I use jazz III, big stubby 2.0mm, dunlop gator .96mm up through dunlop gator 2.0mm I have others too, but these seem to be the best. Are they too thick?? They don't move very much when they hit the string. It's more like I hold them at an angle and they force the string down while passing over it. Should I get lighter gauge picks or is this the correct technique? I have tried playing with a light gauge a few times, but it feels awkward. Well anyways, what picks do you guys use?

thanks for the string tips!

we should have a presets subforum located in the remixing section. I think that would be pretty cool to see what sounds people have made.

isn't $3 way too cheap for quality strings? edit: I dont know too much about this stuff

LoZ: Link's Awakening [Ballad of the Windfish] Remix.

anyone know how I can get around a throttled .mp3 download? I am going to have to have a talk with the network admin. The throttled speed should be set to at at least 10kb/s. 0.25kb/s is rediculous -
Mastering EQ question
Lunahorum replied to PrototypeRaptor's topic in Music Composition & Production
maybe the attack time on your compressor is too low. Anything under 40ms is too little attack and kills the THWAK (on the compressor I use) -
aw cool. Nice sound effects

See picture attached ~~ I wanted to know how to do this effect on a percussive (or perhaps bass) sound. I think it is called gain pumping. The initial attack is loud and then the sound gets loud again before fading away. It sort of sounds like an open hi hat being hit then closed. Here's my guess on how to do it ~~ Use a compressor with some attack time and a threshold that is triggered by the initial sound. Use a short release time so the compressor turns off again. Here is my problem when trying to do that ~~ I tried it and it didn't work... lol. I also tried using a compressor with a 0.4:1 ratio (expands the dynamic range) with a slow attack time (tried everything from 100ms to 400ms) to make it louder after it breaks the threshold. I thought this should have worked , but maybe I set it up wrong. I am using the FL studio compressor. I set the threshold to -15dB (The snare I was working with peaked at -8dB) Then I set the ratio to 0.4:1 and the attack time various times from 100-400ms. The release was at 600ms. It seems like that should have worked. Maybe 0.4 isn't enough to pump the volume. Or maybe there is another way to do this. Which brings me to my original question: how to do this effect. I know it's easy to do because I hear it everywhere, but I can't figure it out. THXTHX - max

Editing note modulations in piano roll FL studio
Lunahorum replied to Lunahorum's topic in Music Composition & Production
yea I love those synths with the filter linked to velocity. I guess I wanted to control the automation using bars like you said. I have been thinking about switching to Sonar because I hate FL's automation editor. In that 3rd picture before, is there anyway to reset the value to zero???? When I try to delete the pink wave (put it at 0%), it doesn't work. It always sets the wave as high as the point I started to delete from. Maybe someone could enlighten me on how to delete a simple automation without it becoming a pain in the ass hovering the mouse slowly toward 0% trying not to click -1% or 1%. -

fl studio versions...which one should I get?
Lunahorum replied to 1337 1's topic in Music Composition & Production
you might want to check out kvraudio.com (music news website, excellent I might add) and download all the free vsts (which are good, but not as good as say massive or absynth.) Then you can also download cockos reaper (program to run the vsts) and it is fully functional with soundfont sfz. All this you can get for free and there are a hell of a lot of sites to download good free audio samples off of. edit-- items in bold you might want to type into google -
Editing note modulations in piano roll FL studio
Lunahorum replied to Lunahorum's topic in Music Composition & Production
Thanks for the fast reply Andrew, but let me clarify: In sytrus, I can assign anything I want to use note modulation x and control it using velocity style bars (see 1st picture) When Using 3rd party vsts that don't support note modulation x/y (see 2nd picture and 3rd picture), It is possible to draw in shapes and achieve the same effect (by using last tweaked parameter)(in fact it is more powerful than the bars because it changes over time, but it is slower to enter) And a final question, Do other sequencers have little velocity bars below the piano roll (I know reaper and sonar do), but do they also have modulation bars below too? -
I was wondering if FL studio had a way to modify more than just x-modulation and y-modulation in the piano roll. Or making 3rd party vsts compatible with FL's x and y modulation. I would like to find out if this is possible to increase my workflow. Is this possible in other sequencers? Like modifying the CC values for each note?

question for anyone using finale 2007 or 08
Lunahorum replied to CloudvsTidus4Life's topic in Music Composition & Production
yes you can reaper kicks ass and is just as good as any other daw People think it sucks because it is free (which is natural to think) -
I was adjusting my truss rod to lower the action and straighten out the neck because it has a slight upward bow to it. Anyways, I adjusted the truss rod one full turn clockwise (till I could see the neck leveling out) and left it over night with all six strings on. I came back in the morning and the stupid thing was broken. How the hell did this happen? Anyways I was thinking about getting an Ibanez SV electric or RG550. Any recommendations for a good guitar in the sub $1000 price range? Preferably over $400 unless there are guitars of quality under that range (preferably with good tremelo system, but maybe there are guitars with no trem under $400 that are killer?) Here's a picture if you want to see
