  1. Fair enough. I have to wonder, though... the posters here CAN'T be all of the people who would be remotely interested in seeing some Golden Sun stuff. Surely there are more people who would be interested?
  2. Ha, I was only talking about this particular organization. As soon as torrents are made illegal I am officially hitting the streets in protest. I just downloaded a CentOS binary-- six large ISOs-- and I didn't have to think about it, all thanks to BitTorrent. So many large open-source efforts will be hindered by BitTorrent format being shut down-- not to mention sites like this. Of course, the other scary thing about the trial etc. is that if it spreads to the States, all the work people put into music on this site might suddenly become illegal one day (on the grounds that what they do is no longer fair use). Bad news all around, imo.
  3. Not sure what to make of this... On the one hand they know they were helping with the execution of criminal acts, but at the same time this sets a dangerous precedent as far as invading personal/civil rights can go (if the info about the new Swedish law is accurate). I hope none of this spreads to the States...
  4. Huh. I should listen to some of these... I've heard a lot of i-V but not so much I-v. I bet it sounds all kinds of interesting.
  5. I'm working on downloading CentOS for the purpose of testing out the Planet CCRMA suite. I will let you all know how it goes, if I find anything that needs to be added here. (I only saw a few references, nothing detailed) EDIT: As of 17 April 1:27am (GMT -5), I'm burning the 6 CentOS images to CD-ROM. I dunno if I'm going to try to install the kernel tonight or tomorrow-- we'll see.
  6. Sorry, I wasn't very clear... I guess I was thinking, volume would be the ABSOLUTE MINIMUM you'd want to add to it. Tiered introductions would be a good next step, too. In my defense I wrote that post while still listening. So yeah, my mind wasn't quite all there, sorry.
  7. I really loved the source tune in Tales of Phantasia... so hearing this mix was absolutely heartwarming somehow. I was really glad to hear some of the experimentation that went on, too. Guitar soloing was epic. Violin was nice. Brilliant stuff.
  8. Well, I'm still listening to it as I type this, so I might have to follow up with a few edits later on. Also, I don't claim to be knowledgeable or anything, so take what I say with a grain of salt. Here's what I have so far on the first listen: 0:02: The start of the sound feels a little abrupt. I'd love a fade-in. It might just be that you haven't gone through with later production work, though, I dunno. 3:05: With the syncopated lead notes there... I'd suggest adding more to fill the space since it's a slow song. Echoing (especially if you put the original voice on left channel and the echo on right channel, or vice versa) is one way to go. I'd also be a fan of downward arpeggios there (e.g., in sixteenth notes, F-C-A-F F-C-A-F etc., G-D-Bb-G G-D-Bb-G etc., G-D-Bb-G A-F#-D-A at the end [or G-F#-D-A to make things interesting]. I don't guarantee that the notes or chords are right: I just kind of wrote that off the top of my head). General: - Consider varying the rhythm of the melody voice once in a while... I know you wanted the work to be a set-and-forget kind of piece such that you hardly even notice it while it's playing, but at some point it gets repetitive and/or boring, especially when people are trying to listen to it for feedback. >_>
  9. Well, I've decided that pending anyone with more clout wanting to start a project properly, I'm gonna feel out some artists and see if anyone would be interested in at least the CONCEPT if nothing else. I know the prophet of mephisto mentioned that some "nobody" tried to start one a while back, and that it failed. I'm also a "nobody", so it is quite possible that I may be on course for a repetition of the past. But I'm mostly just trying to feel it out at this point. I don't expect much, but I don't see the harm in just asking around. Nobody else is doing that yet, anyway.
  10. I loved the Golden Sun games, myself, especially the music. I've been slowly building up an audio workstation for myself over time, and I just recently rejoined this community (though I was very invisible and insignificant the first time >_>). A project like this would be a good opportunity for me to try to start doing arrangements on here, though I suspect the project directors would rather have people with more experience. What to do, what to do...
  11. Alright, thanks. I did read the content policy, but it was surprisingly... um... in my favor. Can you blame me for wanting to confirm it? Anyway, I've been really good about crediting the people and mentioning the site, including the base URL (not so much where individual songs can be found, but I also provide the name and the artist so it can't be that hard to find). And I'm gonna post the link here in case people want to investigate further (though it's been on my profile now, too): http://nd.edu/~kparting/fortiter.htm It's kind of pathetic that I haven't got my own host yet, but it's a start. Thanks very much for the quick reply, Fishy.
  12. Hi all. First, I apologize if this is the wrong forum-- I'm still not very familiar with the site and the forums. I might have wanted to put this in a more general-purpose forum, but this is largely targeted to ReMixers so I wanted to make sure it would get to them. Anyway, this is a question largely about copyrights and licensing for using OverClocked ReMix works in other media productions. The background (I will try to be brief)... basically, I'm producing an audio show of sorts (I sometimes call it a radio show, but it is not a live broadcast). It's mostly talk (basically, all except for the music >_>). I'd really like to use some ReMixes as opening themes for the like. I don't want to get too much into the details of the show, but some potentially relevant points... One, I'm trying to open it a little differently every week, including using different music, which is why I'm making this a general request for clarification on copyrights and the like, rather than just asking one artist for permission for one song. Another thing, it's very interview-driven and I've been doing my level best not to appear too biased on my show, so it's not like your music would appear to endorse any one particular viewpoint... hopefully. What I know so far: I read the copyright policy and what I have gotten from it is that I can use ReMixes in other works, as long as I properly credit the remixer and OCR. I can't remember offhand if there was any clause about no profit being made off the work, but I'm not making any money off of this anyway so hopefully that's not an issue. What I'm asking: If anyone official would like to correct my interpretation of the copyright policy or the like, I'd love to hear it (especially if it will prevent me from getting sued!). Otherwise, until that time, I'm sort of assuming it's all okay (assuming use is in good faith and all that). So if you're an artist and you would NOT like me to use your work, please let me know in this forum or via PM and I will honor your request.... and if you have a request that you would like for your music to be featured at some point, I'll honor that too! If you're an artist and you're on the fence-- or if you're curious about my show-- I'm going to put a link to the show's homepage in my profile soon after posting this, which will allow you to read more about the show and also check out the episodes I have so far posted. And if you like it and want to contribute, then feel free to contact me and we'll work something out. And that leads me to a confession... um... so I'm asking all this now, but I've also made a few episodes and posted them. And I've used a couple of works... yeah. I'm an idiot for not asking sooner. I'm really sorry. So to add to what I was saying above-- if you ask me not to use your works, and I already have, then I will honor the request retroactively and edit the episodes already up as needed. Unfortunately, I can't do much about distribution (i.e., if someone already has the wrong version I can't magically switch it out), but this is kind of unlikely anyway as my current audience size is fewer than ten people. Thanks for reading, and for your patience if this is in the completely wrong forum and it has to get moved.
  13. Oops. I KNEW I'd put it in the wrong forum. Apologies to whoever moved the thread for the inconvenience. I'll look into all of those-- Ubuntu Studio seems to come with Ardour, and as soon as I have finished with that one I will definitely look at Renoise. Also, whoever mentioned Rosegarden, I happen to have Rosegarden and I've had some trouble getting it to work, as well. Thanks for all of the suggestions so far!
  14. I apologize if this has been asked before or if I'm on the wrong forum... but does anyone here do ReMixing on a Linux machine? And if so, what do you use / what's good? I'm mostly asking about sequencers since I don't have nearly enough experience to record my own stuff yet, but any recording software of note is also good for posting here. Thanks!
  15. I second the Phoenix Wright. Those are the only games my girlfriend likes, and she absolutely hates video games otherwise.
  16. OMG OMG OMG OMG my girlfriend will love this... lol.
  17. One of my favorite remixes on this site. Very well-done collaboration between CotMM and Injury. Usually, I'm not a fan of dark industrial stuff like this, but for Magus it was perfect, no question.
  18. Hey, if you're actually serious, I'm considering sending something... only I have a whopping five posts here, maybe. And no ReMixing, but that's due to lack of tools... haha. I do have a ridiculously good ear, though, and enough theory background to get by. The thing is, normally, I wouldn't send anything with that little qualification, but I have no idea when this will be done again and if there's any chance of getting a toe in the door... you know? But you're probably joking anyway. If not, though, care to tell me what you think? >_>
  19. No, you're not the only one who noticed. I noticed it immediately (and in fact, I renamed my file to reflect that after I listened to it-- it was bugging me). I wasn't quite able to put my finger on the F to G thing, though. I knew it was odd, but it didn't sound that bad.
  20. Well, I'm aware of being able to leave it blank, but at the same time I don't want to be a stranger... that's why I wanted it to be visible to the community. Ah well. I can fend for myself just fine. I'll leave it up. Thanks for the reply.
  21. Not that it matters terribly to me, but I thought I'd ask. Thanks -Platinum Azure
  22. Hi. My name's Platinum Azure. I'm new. I'm taking a Music Through Technology class at my school. I'm hoping it, and some experimentation, will teach me all I need to know to start contributing. I like to think I have a pretty good ear. Can't make music all that well right now, though, in spite of it. Woo. Good times.
  23. Oh, I'd say you've read it spot on. ...The funny thing is that I already have tickets to this, but they're not VIP-level. So it'd be cool if I somehow win. But I doubt I will... lol. Thanks for the reply.
  24. This sounds very interesting. Question. If I register, but then fail to submit anything (on the grounds that whatever I have is simply too crappy), will that be a problem/will I be penalized (beyond the fact that I can't win, obviously)? I'd like to give this a shot, but I have... um... near-zero experience. >_> So if we register, are we bound to submit something, and if so, does that something have to have a minimum objective standard of quality?
