They rage about Mario wearing what could be a Tanooki skin and in retaliation create a parody game in which you run around as a skinned Tanooki? I'm now more inclined to rag on PETA about promoting animal cruelty than Nintendo...

Nier has a relatively unique and powerful story, though much of its depth doesn't become clear until the second playthrough (everything takes a different light from the second playthrough onwards). I'm also going to put in a vote towards pretty much every Tales game ever (with special emphasis on Abyss, Vesperia and Graces) - I'd say they have to be among the best JRPGs I've ever played in terms of storyline. The Star Ocean series (excluding 4) are also pretty good from a storyline standpoint (though a lot of people complain about certain twists in TTEoT) All the Assassin's Creed games are amazing in terms of storyline (except Revelations, Revelations is pretty unnecessary and relatively dull when compared to the others). The Xenosaga triology also has a powerful storyline and would probably be worth checking out. I'm sure there's more but I can't really think of anything else at the minute. I'll finish by plugging Final Fantasy Type-0, which has a really deep and depressing storyline, though given that it's currently only in Japanese with no announced localisation and the levels of hate in the ocr thread, I don't think it'll be taken seriously as a recommendation just yet...

It was definitely a pretty amazing night! The signing session ran pretty late though so we didn't get out of the hall until almost 1am. Kinda feel sorry for the three having to continue signing so late into the night.

So... Distant Worlds in London this weekend! Anyone else going? There's a largeish group of us from various communities planning on hanging out before and during the concert (mostly from the Kingdom Hearts Ultimania website). Should be a lot of fun :3

League of Legends.... I have not met a lot of decent people playing solo queue, that's for sure. I miss FFXI's community sometimes - I made a lot of great friends while playing that game, many of whom I'm still in touch with.

I sent you a PM a couple of weeks ago - just thought I'd mention it.

He appears in his younger form for the DLC too. The point is, the younger version worked fine for appealing to RPG fans in Japan, while the character aimed at western market does not appear to have helped it in terms of popularity over here.

It's worth noting that a large portion of Japanese games do include one or two older characters - look at the Tales series for example, or most of the mainstream Final Fantasy games. Regardless, the fact of the matter is that these games are aimed at people whom this sort of thing appeals to, which as it happens is a good portion of RPG gamers in Japan. The formula works for them, why change it? Nier decided to try and appeal to western gamers by having an older lead in the western release, but despite the fact it was an awesome game, that doesn't seem to have given it any major advantage over other JRPGs, in fact I never really hear anyone talking about Nier On an unrelated note, we finally have some hints at a localisation from Steve Blum's twitter here.

Yes, there's something very entertaining about saying "You'll see" with a smug face as others speculate about what will happen next. All the more entertaining since so many people entered the TV series innocent without the knowledge of GRRMs general brutality with his characters.

Might be worth trying anyway - I can run it off a £200 laptop on lowest settings without any noticable lag! As awesome as it looks on full settings, it's surprisingly well optimised for lower end systems (from my laptop experience).
