Actually, yeah that's what I do, normally. I like the control I can have over the gating.
-
Yeah, I think Rozo has it exactly right. The problem is simple - there's just too much going on in a single frequency range. Sound can't stack indefinitely, so when you come across a situation where one sound forces another to get lower you need to make room one way or another. Side-chaining and adjusting the frequency are two ways to do this. Gating the bass whenever the kick hits is another strategy, if you don't mind sacrificing the bass a little bit.

Hey, sounds exactly like the custody battle between my Brother and (former) sister-in-law. Taking it out of jurisdiction, making false charges, using irrelevant information, all that good stuff. Hey, Sony's acting exactly like a manipulative bitch trying to force what it wants not through the law but through coercion and twisting the system.

I need vocals. No, seriously, send me a PM and you can help me out.

Men At Work lose appeal against plagiarism for "Land Down Under"
Gario replied to DarkSim's topic in General Discussion
Wait, how long to copyrights last? I heard three 25 year renewal periods at most. I can understand back charging from 1983-2009, but... well, perhaps my numbers are off. How long can the average person hold copyrights on a song? -
OCR02214 - Rad Racer II "Fire in the TIres"
Gario replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Hey, I remember this one from the WIP forums (the one that you're now a moderator for - congrats on that, btw). Glad to see this one made it through. It's got a classy edge to it that I can't quite put my finger on, but it just seems to scream 'Classic Hard Rock', which I love. -
Appreciation of VG Music 6: Live Instruments
Gario replied to Capa Langley's topic in General Discussion
Here's a great track from 'Lord's of Magic'. Very much the reason why I played Order in that game (that and because of a glitch where you can spawn unlimited top tier soldiers, haaa). The guitar, the strings, the drums - everything works incredibly well together in it. The big climax at 3:09 is excellent, too (and was also the title screen for the game). Very sexy, underrated music, there. -
I can hear the source quite a bit more prominently in the track. I'm not sure if it's enough, since I still really lose a sense of the source overall, but perhaps someone else would be kind enough to help clarify this for me? Try putting the track under 'Mod-Review' - that way you'd have another set of opinions let you know how your track sounds
-
It isn't rude - it'd be a catch 22 if it were Happy to have ya here. Alrighty, just to start things off, it IS common courtesy to link to the source. Now you know, and knowing is half the battle Overall, it's not a bad remix, at all. I like the dropoffs and the overall setting. I suspect it's too close to the source for OCR, but it's hard to say due to my unfamiliarity of the source. The instruments are very close, and the structure mirrors the source quite a bit. The overall soundscape, while it does change from time to time, feels a little static over a 6 minute span. The production is very well done, though, and the sound design is otherwise spot on. Yeah, if you're looking for a spot on OCR you'll need to put more of your 'voice' into the track - change it up and really make it your own piece. If you're not looking for a spot on OCR then it's a nice arrangement and I like it I do recommend using another site to host your music for discussion, though - YT tends to mess up the quality of the sound a little bit. There are plenty of free web hosts you can use, such as Box.net, Tindeck.com, Soundcloud or even the OCR WIP web hosting set up by Fireslash. Best of luck with it, and welcome to OCR after your lengthy absence

All you can do is look at the threads of the album in question and hope. Never follow the tentative deadlines - they're almost always wrong by 6 months. Beside that, in the case of MM9 it's sitting behind about three other projects that are known to be finished (as well as one or two that might be finished within the next few days), so it'll have to wait in line for a while, I'm sure. That's not even mentioning the projects that no one is aware of (which I can't mention because I'm not aware of them, lol).

Happy Birthday! Those people on the MMW album better give you their finished tracks, as a present!

Bio Force Ape unreleased NES game finally available
Gario replied to Level 99's topic in General Discussion
I'm sure you'd need to talk to either the Judges or DjP on a case-by-case basis, here. -
I can answer for at least some of his projects - Dyne is taking care of the final stages of the MMX project while Arek, Jade and I are taking over the Lufia project until his return. (By the way we're looking for more members right now! Git in on it!) As for anything else he was involved in I can't say.

The FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF ReMix Project
Gario replied to Monobrow's topic in General Discussion
Can't wait to see this one. Definitely The end all of arrangement albums. -
I just got word that my FFX remix has gone past the panels and is going on the FP sometime! They even upped the upload limit just for me, so it'll be in the highest quality possible! AWESOME!! Here, I'll let you guys have a listen - it's 'Hurry' from FFX. (Source)http://www.box.net/shared/7ajmublynm (Remix) See ya losers on the front page!!! EDIT: Liontamer told me that I'm a n00b for thinking that he'd ever let me get on the front page. Sorry guys, OCR just doesn't know what to do with this awesomeness. Alas, pity really; i liked FFX's overlooked, overdone lulzy song.

No battletoads but we do get FIGHTING FROGS!
Gario replied to DerangedWhale's topic in General Discussion
Sorry, it's over 9000$ above my budget. -
Man, I wanted to get to this source, but I can't compete with this, bro. I disagree with Emunator, though - the reverb's fine but you need a couple more soundgoodizers plugged into the main lead. A little more schala wouldn't hurt, either. Can't wait to see this one on the front page!

What are the questi... hold on, gotta get some significant progress done on that one project. Hold that thought.
-
Yeah, it's an original (which there's a forum for, I believe). The Ecco arrangement does belong here, though. Sorry I don't have the time to listen to all 20 minutes, right now (and I've never heard the source before), so all I can say is that the orchestration is quite nice.
