  1. Hanon is worth the twenty bucks so get it. Don't even question it if you're serious - it'll help your technique immensely. To get the most out of it first learn the exercises on the white keys (as written), then learn it in BbM (all the black keys) - that way the technique will apply to all sorts of different music. In the ideal world you learn it in all 12 keys, but it works well in those two at least. As for chords, tinker around for a bit, listen to music and imitate. You can learn them through books and such, but the piano represents things in such a visual manner in the first place that you can learn quite a bit just through imitation. BTW, on most programs there is a piano roll that you can use to input notes, so anything/everything you learn on the piano chord-wise will translate easily, so keep up the good work.
  2. Wait wait wait! HOLY SHIT. I just caught this, hold on, it's a response from the Zelda Trance. Yeah, yeah, we already know he also claims to be bLiNd in that same statement. He just took credit for creating OCremix.com... er, I think he meant org. I'm still laughing at this, it's just amazing. Move aside, DjP, this guy is the real brains of this site!
  3. Haaa... this guy's still up too, after repeatedly telling them to shut him down (you know, the guy who is bLiNd, Saimey and Rama all at once). I have seen them shoot down someone stealing AnSo's Mario remix, though, so we can still dream that they'll someday take action... ... just like someday Sega will produce a good Sonic game again, amirite?
  4. Nice work, Sir_Nuts. Glad you liked the source, btw - I can see you and I both think it's a terribly underrepresented game .
  5. Parallel 5th =/= leap of a 5th (which is what Neblix said). Moseph's description of it clearly shows that means 'parallel'... which indeed sounds like a failed music theory student's counterpoint exercise And the first leap in the melody of 'Chariots of Fire' is indeed a fourth, not a fifth. There are some horn motions before the melody that are leaping fifths, though... so there's room to save yourself, Neblix.
  6. I enjoyed it for what it was. In fact I enjoyed it quite a bit. The quotes were a nice touch, by the way. Great work.
  7. Liontamer (as a representative of OCR) or K. Praslowicz could file a copyright flag against the video. YT seems to love to take videos down based off of that, so that might work. I also will post a message (that will probably be deleted). At least I would, except Youtube has the funny habit of not allowing me to post anything. I can't ever seem to figure out why that error message comes up (it's not descriptive, either - it's "error, try again").
  8. No mixes... no shit? What a shame. Well we better fix that, eh? You get Hardman and I'll give Sparkman another shot - that'd fix up that list nicely (and someone can cover Wily 1 ). Going to give it to you straight - these synths are pretty vanilla. I think after two mixes posted the J's will look at that in a very negative light (they look for progress with a posted mixer, according to some of their comments on mixes), so get some custom work on those synths to really make them unique. That basic trance saw is especially noticeable. The portamento on some of the synths is quite badass, though - give you props for that The arrangement is passable, I think. The source is there, yet you seem to go on quite a few interesting paths away from, as well. I think you really water down the harmonic complexity of the original track, though, which really works against you here. Trance is a genre that should steal variety when it can, because there's naturally not much to grab, and the variety of harmonic motions are a perfect place to get your sounds. The drum line fills the space, but it's generally not interesting. It's like the junk-food of drum lines - it's filling, but it's not really good for you. Spice it up with some variety, some crisper sounds (perhaps a little compression could go a ways here), more fills... just moar, overall. The production is a bit on the quiet side overall, but it's not bad otherwise. Try to get the volume up a little bit without losing the clean sound you have already. MM3 is the best. Hardman is underrepresented. That name is suggestive and the Japanese are perverted. Good luck with it.
  9. HAHahaha~... YES, someone who understands my pain.
  10. Mmm... dictation. It's a skill that needs to be put into practice, there's really no two ways about it. Some tricks to it: learn intervals by associating them with well known songs. For example, you could memorize a descending major third by imagining the first leap in the Mario theme song. Whenever you hear that leap you know what it is. Association to every possible interval (there are about 24 of them - 12 up and 12 down) will help you learn dictation faster. When listening to music, listen for patterns. You'll find that there are a whole lot of them out there (Up a major third then a minor third to make an arpeggio, anyone?), so remembering these will help you when you come across them in music you're trying to dictate. Otherwise it's a skill that only comes through diligent practice. I practiced by rearranging VG music by ear (no MIDI ripping - that doesn't help dictation), so perhaps that's a good place to start .
  11. That was a flying bug - you should know that it's immune to earth types. Sheesh...
  12. Alrighty, I got mine updated. I'll have it up and running in about an hour, Dyne. Since you're taking remastered wavs anyway I decided just to give the whole track an overhaul, so be prepared .
  13. Goddamn you internet - I was mid download and it crapped out on me. Now it's not available anymore. *sigh* I guess I better wait for the inevitable torrent to come by...
  14. Nope - the track wasn't a joke, so I'm glad you like it (I do too, personally). The possibility that it'd be posted was the joke - it just... no, it'd never happen
  15. Oh shit, Sonic finally did it. He banged Amy, just like she always wanted. Either that or he did that human chick from that one game... What a twist. You know, I can see their potential hook to this game - two playable characters, so this game could have co-op. There's a big problem with that, though - co-op didn't even work back when Sonic was good, so what would make them think it'd work now? If there's no co-op (or anything to make it stand out) then it's just another rehash of Sonic that we've been seeing for the past decade. Nothing new (other than the question of who's offspring that is, Sonic and...?).
  16. Yes. Not successfully, though... Fucking peacocks.
  17. Sorry for the lack of detailed review, but I wanted to do a drive by comment while I have 5 minutes. The overall soundscape is very nice to listen to, and the references to the source are obvious (yay). One of the major killers of the track, though, is the overall limiting that occurs on the master track (boo). You need to fix your volumes so there isn't nearly as much clipping, overlimiting and/or overcompression. This will improve your production values dramatically. I also recommend you use a free hosting site to provide a Mp3 for everyone to listen to, since Youtube tends to mess with the quality of the sound. Those are my speedy suggestions - I liked it otherwise.
  18. Money? Yeah, post that in your title and you'll get a response within the hour, I guarantee it. Musicians love moneys .
  19. Rozo, Sir_Nuts... dooo iiiiiiit... Yeah, it's on my list of things to remix, too, so who knows? Maybe a mysterious bonus mix will come from this, as well.
  20. Actually, yeah that's what I do, normally. I like the control I can have over the gating.
  21. Yeah, I think Rozo has it exactly right. The problem is simple - there's just too much going on in a single frequency range. Sound can't stack indefinitely, so when you come across a situation where one sound forces another to get lower you need to make room one way or another. Side-chaining and adjusting the frequency are two ways to do this. Gating the bass whenever the kick hits is another strategy, if you don't mind sacrificing the bass a little bit.
  22. Hey, sounds exactly like the custody battle between my Brother and (former) sister-in-law. Taking it out of jurisdiction, making false charges, using irrelevant information, all that good stuff. Hey, Sony's acting exactly like a manipulative bitch trying to force what it wants not through the law but through coercion and twisting the system.
  23. Haaa... Bonus tracks until people claim enough to fill a second album, then?
  24. I need vocals. No, seriously, send me a PM and you can help me out.
  25. Time is runnin' out, peeps! Four days to go, let's see these dinos get the remix they deserve!
