  1. I liked it, although yes, the guitar is horrible. Enjoyable, but a real guitar would be so much better there. Don't know anything about how you interpreted it. I don't think the Zelda's Lullaby section was a good fit.
  2. Very pleasant. Although, some (or maybe only one) of the synths sounds a little cheap. It's played at 1:06 for the first time, I think. How zen.
  3. 0:48 - ~0:54 feels a little either dry of empty. In take 1, it did not sounds dry. Other than that, I agree with Rokin2Mordor. It's awesome.
  4. So random Italian music theory words strung together? Reminds me of how Monty Python wrote the Dead Parrot sketch: with a thesaurus.
  5. It is certainly very good. I think it could make it. If not, the judges will tell you what you'd have to change about it, then you could come back here and ask more specific advice. My guess is if they complained about anything, it might be the string synths. But, it's very good as-is. The only thing is, it's hard to say what the judges will say. My speculation is they'll say no, but resubmit.
  6. "Go, Go Golden Robo Q"... I missed that one... Don't know how, it's awesome. Wouldn't have looked again if you didn't mention it. Thanks! I was also wondering if this was your first game or not. OK, I'm not going to argue about this, as hard as that is. I'm sorry. I really didn't mean to hurt anyone and the editorials were more philosophy that I expected anyone who disagreed to discuss instead of be hurt, but you're right that they had nothing to do with this game or soundtrack. I thought the EULA comments would be taken as humorous, not offensive. I was wrong. I'm sorry. No more punches. I'm really sorry to have caused pain and can't think of any way to undo that. I do feel really bad about that...
  7. Huh, I though if anyone responded to me, it would be answering my ponder on the quality of the game. Guess not. lol So, do they no longer use synths on portable devices anymore? I can't get over how high-quality the music is, considering it's going on a DS. (Not that I have one and know what they're capable of. ...huh, really sorry. I had no idea pulling punches at EA and their legal issues would offend anyone. I didn't even think EA would be offended! I would like to apologize to anyone I offended. Really friken sorry. No, I just thought their legal notice was funny, aggressive, and paradoxical. Sorry. EDIT: Re-reading my post, I would like to not apologies to people who thing VG music should suck. If it detracts from the game, there's a problem and the music aint it. Again, good the people who made this game don't blame the music for any problems.
  8. Another thing Pendulum does (based on the two songs of theirs I've heard) is vary the sound scape through the entire song. I don't know they repeat one measure exactly the same. It has melody, but lacks harmony. I think it would sound more complete if you added a mid-range or another high-range to compliment the main melody. Nobuo always has a counter melody going in the background. He layers his songs very well to create a synergy with the instrument. I usually count 3 layers through most of the songs and two at transitions. I don't listen to DnB (not for lack of enjoyment, but access) but I think the foreground is really not complex enough. You basically repeat the song twice. The second time, you could do it a little different. This is a pretty enjoyable piece as-is, but I think you can do better!
  9. I like this song. I can't remember the source. But that tune...I've heard this... Mario...64? The source is so intrinsic to this song, that I'm actually remembering the game, which rarely happens (Err, never.), despite having forgotten the song. Maybe that's because I both disliked the source and that level. Anyway, really good job on this. My only critique is how the percussions are so monotonous, but that's genre, isn't it?
  10. I did find several strings: Can't copy, download twice, share, use commercially, etc., without violating the agreement I made by clicking "OK". Due to non-trivial downloading time, I look forward to critiquing this later. Thanks for alerting us! (Although, the WIP section being primarily for the good of submitting songs to OCR, this should have gone in its Non-Remixes sub-topic.) ———— Since this thread hasn't been moved, I guess I'll post my critique here. Listened to the soundtrack. It actually is quite nice. Some of the songs were pretty generic, but it did exactly what a game sound track should to do: Be pleasant to listen to--never annoying or repetitive--and occasionally, ascend into good music. I'm glad your employers aren't of the opinion that the music should suck because good music distracts from the game. (Actually, I believe the problem is your game sucks so bad, people only play for the music. No wonder you don't want to hire a decent composer.) Good job on this! I want to single out "Mystical Monocle", "Cake or Death", and "Not My Shoes!" as my favorites of the album. I hate to think it's a good game just because I'm liking the music (which is as irrational as thinking a car is good just because you saw its billboard in Track Mania, although people do), but I can't say I've played a bad game with good music yet. However, I regret to say that I back up my HD, resulting in a copying of the files I downloaded from that website, thus violating the agreement I made upon download. I am deeply sorry. You can PM me for my personal info with which EA can sue me.
  11. Same drums through the whole song, same background, same sound throughout. 0:51: This is a terrible guitar, but good luck getting a fake guitar to sound real. As it is, it's actually pretty enjoyable, but it's a little long for me considering how static it is.
  12. I loved the song in the game though it seems like it gets little appreciation. I think you could do a little more playing with the source, but this is a very enjoyable and fun tune, as is. EDIT: Just a comment on the source: I think this song is Nobuo's proof of genius. He's creating beautiful harmonies with mere clicks and beeps. Not sustaining ones either. You only hear a hint of melody, but your brain is able to fill in the gaps. It's very experimental, and so I believe it deserves a remix equally experimental.
  13. Insert Coin: Needs more energy. The percussions could use a little more umph. Pretty good, arrangement wise. The song at the end...I recognize it...but from where? Battle Scar: Starting well off. More of a cover than a remix. Again, it needs more energy. This is some really good stuff. I think mastering is its only real problem.
  14. This would actually be really cool were it easier to hear. Can't say I like the percussion, though. All the snare hits are the same volume with little variance. 2:49 is an example of a place where I think they should be quieter.
  15. You forgot too repetitive. Not in the melody, but in the instrumentations; sound scape. The Gilgamesh reference felt forced. The Chrono references are short, I don't know if I'd catch them if I DID know the sources. I thought the Bloody Tears section worked really well.
  16. That's like saying minimalist art doesn't qualify as art because it lacks detail.
  17. Well, you've probably heard one-bit. Or rather, either you hear it or you don't. Two-bit: Either you hear it, you don't, or you can neither confirm it is on or off, thus it is simultaneously both and neither. Four-bit: Just friken crazy shit.
  18. Well...I don't have any comments, but I can say I hate 8-bit. Long live 4-bit! I've never been good with 8-bit composing as my lack of base-writing skills are accentuated. Still, I think the base should either be one octave lower, or an extremely low base instrument be added. (Maybe.) How long do you plan this to be? It sounds just like a cute, short, experimental piece.
  19. It's great, but I don't like after 0:49, where, up until then, energy is being built up, but is dissipated there. Gets good for me again after 1:06.
  20. I think it's great. Sometimes, the guitars feel a little flat. Sometimes this feels stylistically awesome, sometimes not. I think this song would be awesome if it were 3 mins+ long. That is, if you really worked at experimenting with it.
  21. The base is too monotonous, especially for when it's all you can hear.
  22. I can't give one. I'm not a musician. This site (this forum) ruined my inner composer by making me have standards. So, I can really respect how hard it is to improve your song, but I can't help any further. I can only wish you good luck and ask why no one else has bothered chiming in. (Seriously!)
  23. If you don't agree with me, then you can't find the problem I see and fix it. If you agree, only you can decide. All feedback is for the interpretation of the artist.
  24. I think the quality isn't bad, but the song feels empty. I think it needs more elements.
