I'm new to electronic music.
Nabeel Ansari replied to Cube of meat's topic in Music Composition & Production
I think you have your terms mixed up. The things you describe more attribute to general concepts of music production, especially since you're talking about recording live marimba. Electronic music is a term used to describe music with a heavy focus on synthetic textures (trance, house, big beat, DnB, dubstep). Now I know some electronic music has marimbas, but I have 80% confidence you're more asking about how to make music on the computer. It's not referred to as electronic music generally, it's just "music" or even "computer music" would land you answers more accurate with what you're looking for. Just a tip on how you can improve your question so you can get what you want quicker, since it is a broad question not any single person on OCR (with the exception of maybe Rozovian) has mastered answering. If anything, he's already answered the question that you might be actually asking. -

Funny to blame it on the games. Also, I find Istanbul substantially different from Rome. -

I think it's sad that video games are getting to the point that if a sequel isn't radically different it apparently sucks. It's a fucking video game. You play it to have fun. I hope I never end up like that. It's kind of hypocritical, because by that logic Megaman 2-6 suck (same goes for the other series). I love games that people complain are "expansions" of previous games (except Call of Duty), because I get a whole ton more of what I loved in the previous. Who fucking cares if Mario Galaxy 2 was Galaxy 1 with more worlds and powerups, with the exact same gameplay. It's a great game, and if it isn't broken, why fix it? -

Why? The newest version has more features and the clip system is more intuitive. You're a couple years behind. (money isn't an excuse, upgrades are free) -
What about other audio formats? (FLAC/OGG/M4A/etc)

Right so it's perfectly fine to HIDE potential counter examples and using extreme cases (128kbps) to support his point. Right, so if you simply can't make blanket assumptions then why are you writing an entire article based on blanket assumptions? Also, the introduction of the article is like a childish 6th grader trying to write a persuasive essay, hasn't even learned to keep "I" out of articles that are meant to inform. When you start your writing with "I hate mp3" it kinda shows how overblown and opinionated the rest of the article is going to be. He used nothing but convenient evidence (openly admitting that he's not including other evidence but has "disproved" it himself). Ex: " I’ve heard even a 256 kbps mp3s sounding like this " (link plz? how about you let the readers judge?) Also Uh-huh. Well you see, throughout the entire article he provided no proof for the bolded statement there. Why? He conveniently avoided citing any 320 kbps mp3 files. Oh sure, he said they don't sound good. I should just take his word for it then, huh? This is what happens when you have a weak argument with only extreme cases as evidence to support your "blanket assumption". You have to try and avoid talking about things that are counter examples. When you do that, it just shows how weak your argument really is. Especially if you actually do talk about counter examples but dismiss them without directly citing them. Making a point isn't as simple as giving out the tid bits of examples that agree with you. Again: " I’ve heard even a 256 kbps mp3s sounding like this " No, I'm not trying to be that guy. I'm just answering your question.
