  1. haha indeed I remember watching the first season of heroes, and loving it, but I lost track of it after that. sylar was badass.
  2. I gotta agree here, when my first mix was rejected, I've seen getting a remix on the panel as a challenge, and I won't stop trying either. Its a shame a lot of people take not getting a mix posted so badly as its a great way to test your skills as a musician to keep on subbing
  3. Best Hero - Gandalf Best Villian - Darth Vader Of course, thats my opinion. EDIT: just seem glasfen's post. its about the program heroes villains? The title of the post isn't clear... either that or i'm a jackass :S
  4. I also have a remix of the chemical plant zone I did a WHILE back... It was done when I didn't have much idea about sound design, so it has a definate 16-bit feel to it. I reckon the vagrance's version is more along the lines of what you want but here is the link to mine anyway http://www.last.fm/music/Willrock07/Remixes/Beware+The+Puple+Water
  5. Well I'm liking this alot, which is saying alot as I am not a big fan of the style of music. Really great stuff, productions mint, and its as infectious as hell. Oh, and the singing is brill as well
  6. Not bad, not bad at all, i'll start off by saying this is a bit of a joke compared to what it will become if you do the recording well (and that is a very good thing) I must say, I love that atmospheric intro. I think it might be too close to the origanal at the moment, I'm not sure though. I like the harmonisation with the melody later on in the track and the end was cool as well (I partically liked the arpeggiated harp ( Make sure to post the recorded verison when it is done, I reckon it will sound cool. Oh yeah, and for people who want the source: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=uqcPSbkS9TQ
  7. Don't worry about it, there's no need to say sorry, thats what the wip forum is for. Oh, and I happened to notice that this is your first time on OCR... I hope you enjoy it here
  8. Hmm... I would suggest that if you haven't already, to look at the submission standards and instructions, honestly, that is the best info you can follow if you want to post a remix, it says about the critiaria, what is acceptable, and what isn't. def issential reading. Here's the link: http://www.ocremix.org/info/Submission_Standards_and_Instructions btw, one thing i picked up from the judges decisions forum that isn't meantioned there is that the amount of source material in the track has to be 50% or over. I would also suggest reading the judges decisions forums, the judges often mention other critiaria in them that may be useful. It's a very good idea to keep a close eye on the judges comments regarding sub standards, as they know the critiaria better than anyone.
  9. Ok, I have decided to resurrect this post, due to it imo being a possible candidate for submission. Current self crit(s) clap to low in mix. Will update soon
  10. cool could you post a link? Ah I see, ok, it seems to do the job i you want to do a remake, you are def on the right track. The trouble with ocr is that if you want to get a remix posted on the site, you really have to 'flex your shit' as I told when I was a little naive on the sub standards (not that i'm a expert now ( but ocr generally don't accept remakes. I hope you find this info useful!
  11. Haha that guys awesome on that thing great stuff. and yes just64helping, if you want it, its looks worth buying
  12. Nicely done, I like the arrangement, it has potential. It starts a little abruptly - although that isn't a major problem. The bass is a octave to high at the intro, i would bring it down a octave and see how it sounds, it seems to be fighting to be the center of attention as a lead instrument there. the bass is fine at later sections. The guitar at 00.19 sounds a little out of time, i have trouble following it, as it seems to lag behind a little. I like the drum writing at that section though Everything sounds a little muddy at 00.36 onwards, the instruments don't sounds defined. The backing chords sound to loud and the main lead there isn't getting the space it needs to be heard becuase of it. I'm not brilliant at production issues though so i'll leave that for other listeners to comment on further Arrangement-wise, the source is def there, but at the moment its sounds more like a remake than a remix, you need more original sections or varaition in there, everything for the first minute is fine, but everything after the first minute is repetition and the judges will hold that against you if you sub in its current form There are plenty of ways around this - you can change the chord sequences, add varation in the melodies e.g. you could do a half-time section with the melody over a different chord sequence, the judges look for things like that. You could do origanal sections as well - a guitar solo maybe - use your imagination! finally, the ending is too abrupt as well, it only gives off the impression you can't come up with anything good to wrap it up if you do that, which is why i hate them however, I do like this, keep on working at it!
  13. I think the guitars are at a decent level with the rest of the mix, (excluding the end harmonies, i'll fix that though) you have a point about the distortion though, only I'm hesitant to change it at the moment, as it would mean re-recording the whole guitar part :s (the distortion wasn''t put in after I recorded it) well, i'll see and figure it out. Its a little to processed as well, I need to take out the some reverb. As for the rest, It sounds good, I like it (well I would I made it) But I need to sort out some bugs first As for kens stage, I will update it soon, it needs alot of work, possibly re-recording the intro twin lead guitars and I might change the whole instrumentation - the instrumentation at the moment isn't meshing together well. I know the problems now, its just figuring out solutions. Yeah, and whats up with tindeck? its seems to work for some people but not for others (you and me included) maybe it isn't working in different sections of the world at the moment?
  14. Afraid not, simply because that was not the inspiration behind the remix. If you want a good techno remix of it, then look at rayza's goove basin, on the project chaos album.
  15. Yes, I haven't been able to access it, I think there are technical problems with the site, I had to use boomp3.com for my azure lake remix :S
  16. Hm... this is an interesting one for me. I decided to go for a more laid back approach with this one. It worked I think. interestingly enough, I always accused my friend of sounding like 'tom petty slowed down' as a joke. well this sounds like - ok scratch that - COMPLETELY ripped off his song learning to fly with this (unintentional). So basically this is the azure lake theme crossed with tom petty. Well, have a listen and give me your thoughts. Thanks guys. http://boomp3.com/listen/c0t39x9dj_8/the-azure-lake Here is the source tune - And here is the song learning to fly (lol)
  17. Ok, I have made numerous changes - First, I have EQ'd the drums and changed the drum writing in the intro slightly, I have also re-recorded the rhythm guitars at the intro, generally turned them down, and removed the pad from the faster sections to sort out the muddy sound problem, gradually bringing them up in the mix before the breakdowns, so the change flows as the track progresses. I have brought up lower freqencies in the bass, and let it take care of the lower end, and have brought up the mid frequencies in the guitars to make them sound warmer (I changed the frequencies in slightly different places in for each guitar. Also added gates to the guitars to try and get rid of the fuzz. Finally, I have attempted to master it, and peaked it, so it sounds alot louder than the previous edit. Anyway, here is the current version. Enjoy.
  18. I get the source off youtube, just paste the URL of the video with the source onto your comment. I'll listen to your track later, I'm busy at the moment, but I will come back and give feedback soon
  19. Ok ,this is the ken stage theme from street fighter 2 that I have arranged. Ok, I am aware of some of the problems in this version (leveling issues, and out of tune guitar at end bad fades etc) I will sort out this issues asap. This is definately rough at the moment, but I will make it better as time goes on Anyway, please give feedback on anything you can think of. Thanks! And for people who haven't heard the sorce (anyone?)
  20. True, what I do is post a new reply, but people still don't know that the link is updated, just that a there is a new post by me, which could be anything. Also, I have happened to notice (I'm not sure if this is in the list on post 2 already) but the more popular games get more views than lesser games and the little known games don't get the attention they deserve. basically, some threads are ignored, because people don't know the source tune (or game) of the remix in the thread. Also in answer to HoboKa's not fair comment, it says in the submission standards and instructions page under the evaluation heading: 'Submissions will generally be evaluated relative to recently posted ReMixes; ReMixes posted over a year ago may not represent current standards for arrangement and production'
  21. Hmm, I like dragonforce and all, but in my opinion, they should try having a little more variation. I know it has been said before, and dragonforce fans will hate me for saying that, but in my opinion, we know that dragonforce can play fast. They bet they could write slower songs and get away with it as their sound is so unique. I'm not saying they shouldn't do any 'extreme power metal' as they class themselves but they should have songs like that in there as a trump card, as the songs they do are great as stand alone tracks but consistently on an album, it bores me after a while.
  22. Hmm... I would say that I personally look for advice, suggestions and general opinions when I post to the WIP forum. .
  23. Well I disagree with you there HoboKa, the judges don't review on personal taste, they review on critria that remixers have to fulfull. However I do agree on your comment about reviewing remixes only to be picked apart by the judges. I think one qualified person to through the forums isn't going to happen -someone that qualified would be a judge or become one. I suggest a different angle. I have found as a remixer (not an overclocked one) that people do have different views on tracks but some of the crits are the same for some people. I suggest promoting the forum in some way, and getting the WIP forum more views and thus, more feedback. If more than one person says the same crit, then i have found personally when i get a multiple crit on one of my mixes, changing it usually has good results. 10 ears are better than 2 right?
  24. Here is the source tune for those who want to hear it: Cool, I like the relaxed mood of this. I like the origanal intro, but I'm a little put off by the sound of the guitars - rozovian is right, they sound fake in a bad way, I hate the distortion sound and there is no vibrato in the long notes which doesn't sound natural. The source is obvious and you have great origanal sections - I love the synth solo at the end, that got a great sound too. I also like the break-down you throw in at 1.20, the piano contrapuntal melodies in the background were cool. Nicely done, but please sort out that guitar at the intro
