  1. Hmm... I love this! This is proof that video game music still rocks sounds very 80's which is the way I like it, I may do a remix of this at some point
  2. I have some other suggestions... Produce your track to other ie. compare your track with a track that the judges have passed. I recommend this one as it is known for is production value, it is of the same style, and its awesome. Get your track sounding like this should get a yes on the production front, and I think the arrangement is there, so when your tracks sounds as good as this, you should be good to go http://ocrmirror.org/Double_Dragon_The_Secrets_of_Sosetsuken_OC_ReMix.mp3 Also, The guy who did this remix has a thread with links to free high quality guitar amp sims. I suggest you have a look at it if all goes haywire with your guitar sound currently. http://www.ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=14222
  3. Interesting that you say you use a line 6 pod... I have the spider II amp and my mate has a pod that is awesome, I would recommend it. I can guarantee that you can get a great sound out of that better than what you have currently anyway. I have heard EZ drummer is the best too, but I have never used it, anyone know how much it costs? I use reason drums kits personally, but you need reason to make it work, and it also requires a bit of tweaking to make it sound realistic, but it can be done.
  4. Thanks for posting the sources not many people do that. I am not familiar with the sources but they are great, you have made a good choice Not sure about the chip-tune intro, but it seems to work :S As soon as the song kicks in, its awesome As far as arrangement goes, I think your there. As far as production goes, I don't think you are there. The guitars don't have the punch they should, they sound fairly cheap, although I can't help you there I'm afraid. I am not a fan of the distortion, did you use a computer plug-in, because the plug-ins don't usually cut it for me, I always record with the distortion from my amp or effects pedal. As far as the drums go, they aren't great either, they are bad samples, they just don't sound realistic and the toms are awful frankly. The section at 1.11, I am not a fan of, it seems misplaced. I would try to bring out the bass more using EQ and EQ-ing the rhythm guitar wouldn't go amiss either, try to get them sounding clearer in the track, often in rock WIP's, the R gtr and bass are both taking up similar frequencies, and make the track sound muddy. I'm not an expert by any-means though, I would check with people that know the style better. Please don't take my crits the wrong way - I may sound I little harsh - I do think that this is awesome, its just a production problem which believe me, I have as well to an extent The arrangement is great though, there is a large amount of energy there that is very megaman-ish, I would work on this and sub it, but the production would prompt a 'no' from the judges currently I fear.
  5. A gun that's bullets create a vortex that sucks all people around into another dimension... I dunno I'm just trying to be creative.
  6. Lol that would be joke. Sadly, you have a valid point about that. People won't do anything unless bribed with money XD
  7. I first started remixing because I thought I alot of game music had wasted potential due to the limited sound quality of the classic nes.snes/megadrive games and wanted to see what I could do with them. I now do it to increase my musical boundaries.
  8. Well there are clashes in the piano part at 0.31 (beginning of bar) 0.34 (beginning of bar again) Theres several notes in the left hand piano parts that clash with the key you are playing in as well in the next two bars. There is a clash at 0.44 (third beat of bar) as well. That is for the first section anyway. Hmm... after listening VERY HARD (and yes, I have checked my EQ setup, its normal and I use headphones that usually pick up bass frequencies) I can hear it sometimes very faint, but usually, its completely overshadowed by the bass notes on the piano. Turn up the bass dude! It seems fine to me mate
  9. Hmm... this looks like a well disguised fav thread :S Its an interesting idea, and one that people will have no doubt thought of, but I get the feeling that people will just say listen to all the remixes on the site and decided for yourself.
  10. That was awesome, def more true to the series! I'm actually surprised how good that was, I mean when you seriously convert dragonball to a movie with all the high speed, flying monsters and kamahamaha waves, you think it won't work, but I bet that a movie with scenes like that with better music, effects, and less comedy... that would be sick man, that is what I personally would like to see, not a matrix rip-off.
  11. And for those who want sources Ice Cap Hydrocity Oh yeah, and I disagree, with rozo, I think it is loud enough :S
  12. Ok, first of i'll say that you have chosen a bloody difficult source tune (ice cap) simply because every single living creature in the entire milky way galaxy has remixed this song at some point. Or it seems that way. The intro is cool, I love the mood, and the electric piano/pad sound is awesome, I'm loving that. However I am not a fan of the piano, rozo is right about the velocities, bring them down and vary them more. The piano sounds really mechanical imo and the velocity range is too high for the mood you are trying to get here. So the ice cap melody starts. Some of the notes in the piano clash, and that is seriously bothering me. I would sort them out. This problem is has gone by the time the drums come in though. I also like the variation you put in the melody, thats great The only complaint here is that I can't here a bass, and the texture here sounds a little empty because of it. Original section at 1.29: more piano notes clashing here - maybe its your style, as I sometimes use dissonant chords that others dislike. Hydro city section - loving this bit, the piano is cool as well, no probs here. The Ice cap section after it is cool as well, good variations. The original section at 3.10 - not sure it worked with the key change. It is ice cap? I'm not sure, but it sounds a little like it. The next part that carries on the track and goes into hydro is a little weird, but its cool, I like to hear something different. the transition to hydro at 3.34 is sick, I love that. The hydro section, I'm hearing clashing notes again, not as frequent, but its starting to annoy me a little 4.33 onwards is cool, I'm liking that. The solo piano at the end is also good, I'm liking that a lot, especially when complimented by the left hand piano later on. I love the way the pad fades in and tracks to a close, with the water drop sound, thats a great touch. There are some great ideas here, my crits are mechanical piano, and clashing notes in it. Also, as far as I can hear, there is no bass I think you may just get away with it, but it does sound empty at points in the piece. However, you have more than edited the source tunes enough to warrant praise from the judges I'm guessing. Nice work I look forward to hearing more
  13. Wow, thanks very much both those sigs are awesome man... Now I gotta choose I'll use txai's sig for now as he posted his first, but I'll definitely alternate sigs as they are both sick as hell Thanks alot guys, I am in your debt lol.
  14. Cool that awesome i like it! Could I request I slight change? The font of the text is a little bland... Could you change it a little, make it a little more colorful, make it stand out a little more? That would be awesome if you could. Thanks!
  15. I have a sig request: This pic fit in somehow, with fire in the background with the text willrock07 at the top. Thanks. Edit: sorry bout the double post
  16. I have a sig request: This pic, with fire in the background with the text willrock07 at the top. Thanks. [http://www.fighters-story.fr/galeries/combattants/night_terror.gif]
  17. A very interesting read... I want to become a video game composer and this says I've got a long way to go...
  18. Ok, I'll start by saying that this is good, I'm liking what is here. I also like the style, that lead guitarist synth is awesome, I want it I am unfamiliar with the source, unfortunately, so I can't comment on that (its something people forget that is crucial for the listeners to give critique on) Oh to hell with it, I'll find it... Here we go! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ToxAJnQqyiU Ok, so its better than the original in my opinion However, it is to repetitive, and I know, you say that it needs to be, but the judges don't like repetition any more than us trust me Ok, I'll leave the production to rozo, I'm not comfortable with sharing my knowedge about that yet. I will try and help arrangement-wise instead. There are plenty of ways to add varity to the track. You can change chord sequences of a particular section of the track, you could add a breakdown section, which I would strongly recommend for this, it would remove some of the repetition. You could also add original sections in the middle to flesh out the track. You could also add variations to the melody, as well as counter melody's. You could even do a synth solo with that guitar synth of yours - that would be sick When I do a remix I stucture it in ternary form - Original Intro - to get people in the right mood A section - a simple rendition of the theme (what you have is fine for that at the moment) B section - original section, Breakdown or/and instrumental solo. A section (repeat) - repeat of the A section with variations in melody, chords, whatever (you could do some of that in the first a section - just make sure the two sections are distinguishable) Ending - whatever suits your fancy here (although people frown upon fade out and abrupt endings - I wouldn't recommend them - although they can work if done well) I hope this info helps at least a small amount
  19. I use reason for my nes music, it has great preset samples. The only thing it doesn't have are nes drum sounds (i use hi-hats instead). here is the result of nes sounds on reason.
  20. Well, I have been a fan of dbz for about... god... well, years. Anyway, I'm going to see it, or watch it in some way or form at some point, if not cinema. I will give it a chance, but seeing as a tralier is usually better than the film itself, my expectations aren't high, so odds are it will be better than I am expecting Also, its dragonball Z, and anything with the logo on it people swarm like flys around. My only concern is that they will go through the entire series (a film a Saga) and completely tarnish the name of the series.
  21. No source link? After all that ranting in the improving the WIP forum I did about it? What a hypocrite. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JGBkvcpeT04 Oh, and that click only seems to happen when I upload to tindeck. Weird huh.
  22. I know there are some big probs here, and it needs alot of work. I compared it to sixto and fishy remixes and it is bollocks compared to them I'm not sure I'm going to do a guitar remix again for a while as they just aren't clicking for me like my others. Not to mention that because this is my fav style of music and I take alot of inspiration from it, so its less original than my other styles. One thing is that whenever I record a guitar part it always get alot of feedback, which may be a lead problem :S Not to mention I am not good on pro tools yet. I'll keep on working on my style though, learn pro tools a little better (I'm not as comfortable on it as on reason) and i'll post a WIP when I am ready. I'll post reason WIP's for now though. Oh, and thanks for the feedback, i'll work on it
  23. Man, video game music is so underrated by the general public I can certainly look into it, I will post a WIP and send you a message if I start one
