  1. i don't know these deals - but everything is highly negotiable - for you not being well established you don't have lot of weight to pull but feel free to stand on your terms most deals that i am aware of composers do not make a royalty - but are simply 'work for hire' - but that brings me back to everything is HIGHLY negotiable if you want the deal to be a certain way just make sure to get it in writing - it it says 'work for hire' they own it and not you since your planning on using these songs further down the road it makes it for an interesting deal - at the least just make sure you have the right to do what you want with the tracks without their say-so and the percentage thing is totally your call - on what you think is acceptable - if you had a publisher they would do the work for you - you can even hire a publisher just to push the papers
  2. yeah cyril! sounds good - lots of energy when the band kicks in guitar could come up a bit - low end sounds a little muddy with the drums and bass - strings are obliterated when the band comes in since this is way prog maybe throw a synth with that brass melody (or replace it) when the band comes in - maybe instead of keeping the orchestra around with the band you could just focus on prog for the rest of the arrangement and have the orch come back later - and maybe even push the tempo more when the band comes in that's all i can hear for now - keep at it
  3. can i just throw in my two cents pop music - popular music people on this site may make the distinction between soundtrack (movies/games) and everything else as being pop - but i don't i will throw together most rock/pop/rnb/rap as all pop - but things like underground hip-hop or obscure electronic/jazz (squarepusher) - i don't consider as facets of pop music at all - there genres do not play the game with major labels and sell out to commercialism this is a cool thread still - and those hip hop examples are great - but i still do not think of it as pop
  4. i sent an email to their support - will just have to wait to monday to know whats up most likely i'm kinda thinking that since they extended the group buy we may have to wait till it ends for ikmutlimedia to accept our purchase and let us download their software.
  5. you said disco so i just think straight-a-head drum beats - but breaks are always nice and SoM lends itself well to some really cool, off the wall, drum breaks for tracks like 'danger' and 'distant thunder'
  6. repped! thanks andrew! - crazy deal I really like the sampletank sounds - people gripe - but the sounds work well in the mix even though they aren't the greatest by themselves I'm going to go the t-racks route - but i really wish they offered the full version of ampeg svx __________________________________ i also think sampletron and the jimmy hendrix plug have a lot of character
  7. nasenmann - its all good real creative stuff here the medley thing has its merit but you certainly started off with some great ideas in the beginning with 'distant thunder' - this part for me is the most intriguing of the arrangement - you kinda come around full circle at the end too - and the brass and string stuff in the middle work reall great. now, the shifts from song to song in the middle are cool but it kinda kills the vibe you started with - i think if you stuck with the disco thing more and really condensed and focused this mix more it would be more solid as for the bass keep the saw wave but try layering it with a pitched squarewave or something to have the fundamental translate better
  8. logic does this in the transform window - i don't know about any other daw but you can send me the file and i'll do it for ya
  9. could we utilize a wiki that could be updated constantly to a thread (probably no way to automate that but idk) for a FAQ? this would make it much easier to have something to work off and add to constantly. just a thought
  10. the guides are certainly nice but i sure do think there is room for improvement. a generally asked questions faq is a good idea in my opinion that should be maintained to really help someone with the real basics that are repetitively asked. i would use the format of having a common question with "quotations" and then a quick response with a link to more resources. and this would need to be a WIP and continually updated to really shine. and as for the mods - maybe try to maintain an iron fist of closing threads by those who don't look for resources first before posting - if they still have questions thats fine - but i think it would catch on
  11. hey - not all of his music is demented and crazy ...i think - heh and i wasn't saying that this sounded like that at all - it's a totally fresh and laidback take with similar use of instrumentation (eccentric electronic sounds, breakbeatish changing/improvising drums, funky bass, and jazzy elements (nylon guitar)) - i think it's genius and masterfully done if it wasn't intentional you should check out more of his stuff
  12. alright - your guitars aren't too muddy here - not sure if you changed things around - they have that static (death metal pedal) distortion to me - it's all high mids - you can really tell whats cutting through with them when you lower the volume of the track - if you want them to be heavier you need to look at getting them to flow with your drums and bass more and try to find more room for them in the low mids - what you've done here is pull them back in the mix and raised the high mids to cut - it's alright but it loses it's power if thats what you want guitar rig 3 is great but really make your own presets - i have found their presets to be rather lacking from the ones i've made myself - i'm sure it changes from guitar to guitar or preamp to preamp - but this is my experience your kick sounds a little weird to me - it's this weird crossbreed of synthetic/real which totally works for the track - but it's really hollow - seems like it has verb - and doesn't mix the greatest with the bass - which i can't really hear for half the mix you got musical skills it's the just production you gotta keep at i would definitely look to invest in a nice drum sample library to help your mixes out
  13. up the ram! - it'll be worth it and where did you get that deal on a $100 laptop?
  14. Congratulations! It's really nice to see two people so happy together. See ya at Magfest!
  15. aw man your right - my mind wants to explode http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3X35iHNYVf4
  16. So it's getting closer. I have been meaning to post this for awhile. But I would really like to get together a group to play as many tunes from the Xenogears - CREID soundtrack as possible. I only want people who are serious to really take the time to learn the tunes and keep them faithful to the original and not make it no so much a jam session. Since it's more eclectic instruments and style it's gonna be harder to find people but when Taucer started taking about bringing his Irish flutes I thought I would atleast try. Depending on who comes aboard will dicate what songs to do. Just listening to the album, here are the instruments I pick up on: - (I'm thinking) 2 keyboardists to be safe (i hear piano, harp, vibes, pads, fx, and we'll probably need to double instruments or percussion) - acoustic guitar - electric guitar (clean/dist solo) - drums - percussion (2 probably) (tambourine, djembe, dumbek, shakers, jingle bells, tablas probably won't happen) - irish whistle (Taucer hopefully) - accordion (probably not the easiest to find - but i saw overcoat plays) - violin (viola maybe?) - string parts harmonize so 2 is actually better - girl vox (background as well as lead - japanese diction is a plus in my book) - uilleann pipes (yeah right - maybe we'll get something else that sounds similar) I think there is a hurdy gurdy in there too. oh and I got bass. - maybe drums It's pretty ambitious, but would be amazing if we could get this together.
  17. huh...so i guess that ampeg one is no good? never tried it. but yeah snapple's got it. your amp isn't going to cut it and never use the di's out of em...ever....ha.- unless you want a really bad tone. a di (radial, countryman, aphex) or using guitar rig 3 or ampeg svx plugs are going to be the best alternative to buying a rig and using a mic.
  18. pci, which is better, keeps getting updated - atleast with firewire there are options and i totally agree with overcoat - being on the cutting edge first costs a lot of extra money and lot of extra time when the people who made it are still working out the kinks
  19. just thought i would chime in i think this is a very important question Red9 asked - in terms of, what are the ideal specs to get a computer at to start recording. i have only dealt with macs so i can't really offer much advice. But as long as you have a decent chip (2.4 and up), enough ram (2 gigs is minimum), and a decent interface (really should be firewire), i think your off to a good start. and as for waiting - sure prices will go down (they will always go down!) i waited 6-8 months for my mac - and waiting sucks. i would just go out and get a system and enjoy it.
  20. i have been using mediafire.com to send files over the net - it's unlimited but caps at 100mb per file - which isn't a big issue for wav files - i am into my 2nd ocr collab right now and it's been working out i would just suggest have a snare hit like 2 measures before the track starts cause if things get off atleast you can have a reference - and everyone that sends tracks back n forth should should use that snare hit i can maybe sway my friend to lay drums and/or percussion down - let me know but about the arrangement - you take the lead - and make it solid and we'll do the rest hit me up on aim
  21. i can do electric or upright bass for you i dig your track
  22. i can't talk for all daws - but i'm pretty sure they all are rather lacking when you compare them to notation software like finale and sibelius - but unless your printing out detailed sheet music and scores it's a non-issue i have only run into a few snags with logic's notation but I also use finale cubase, sonar, logic, and maybe pro tools 8 will all be fine options if you want to look at notes instead of a piano roll and for me atleast, i can input long passages of sheet music faster with step input in logic's score than i can within the piano roll
