  1. I love dark. You should look in my closet. So many dark articles of clothing (you know, amidst the skeletons).
  2. I've been branching out of my usual genres/styles/language(s) lately and stumbled upon Tarkan. Some of his work has a Middle Eastern style that reminds me of the "classical" Egyptian music I grew up with (the organic instruments, rhythms, syncopation, and raw emotion perhaps stemming from the fact that I do not speak Arabic or, in Tarkan's case, Turkish) and some of his work mixes these qualities with a more Western and synthesized sound (which I like). Anyway, just wondering if anybody here has found any interesting and contemporary Arab/Middle Eastern artists/bands that they like. Let's try to stay more modern than Umm Kalthum, Abdel Halim Hafiz, Farid al-Atrash, etc (though if you're not familiar with them, you could totally brush up on your 20th century Arab music history).
  3. zomgggggg. happy belated birthday! hope it was a good one totally void of paper cuts.
  4. That song is pretty interesting. Maybe he's right. There are no coincidences... just sometimes the pattern happens to be more obvious.
  5. Guilty pleasures are the best. So raw, unbiased (or maybe "anti-biased").,, I am the same way with Your Love is My Drug... frankly, I just enjoy it. It does me no good to accumulate hate for various artists when music is usually hit or miss for me anyway. The song makes me feel up, and despite what my brain wants me to think, I find her trashy spoken-word style to be amusing/just right. So if you listen to your music for enjoyment, then by all means, listen away. And get some rehab/sleep.
  6. I'm still working on it but how firm is that 2500 word limit? And what kind of words are we talking about here?
  7. No, I think this is worthy of our time as a form of intellectual exercise.
  8. I'm personally having fun tuning up and down from 126.50 kHz, changing the pitch of the tone i hear. I think I'm doing it wrong.
  9. You can be shot at a thousand times all over your body, but as long as you have enough hit points, you will be fully functional and in perfect health/condition, and to make matters more confusing, a ninja psi-blade can 1 hit KO you. (Starcraft) Town Guards are tougher than demons. (Ultima Exodus) Hedgehogs can run and spin really fast, especially when blue.
  10. I so hope to be there. If not I'll catch em whenever I can - looking forward to the results!
  11. the topic intrigues me ("intrigues" not "fascinates" because i've not owned any of the new consoles and have never played on a ps3 or original xbox so i can't judge) but why did it have to be a 16 minute video? I really would have rather read this. i guess the biggest recurring motif i see here is technical hardware/graphics superiority isn't that important (PSP, dreamcast, betamax, PS3)
  12. I read in the other post that people were speculating Iozu was a bot. ...you must be a very sophisticated bot, or a person (and English isn't your native language - hopefully).
  13. at the same time, his birthday was like over a week ago... hmm. oh, what the hell. happy birthday+13 days.
  14. you're leaving before I could ever get to know you... boo. but congratulations! i hope this leads you to bigger and better things. i know you once mentioned your dream of landing in the olympics. maybe this will help take you in that direction!
  15. I have to try this. edit: i could try to make interesting textures out of short string samples that might otherwise suck.
  16. Ah, don't know how I missed that. Well... still. Gonna read that article. I feel like I have some catching up to do (rather watch the video. still.) Edit: alright... from how it sounded, I got the vibe that the person conducting the interview on fox was defending EA's rights too. The whole article seems to have just reported on what happened in that interview.
  17. Am I the only one seeing this is MSNBC and the article itself was written by a PCWorld writer? Is the Fox bashing some sort of meme of which I am ignorant? :S And the author expresses his opinion at the end, that this kind of game with its available playing modes needs to exist because "it's disrespectful not to see it through with both sides accessible as optional to play." Stuff like this can exist. If you don't like it, don't buy it/play it. It's not like this supports American enemies financially or something... edit: And I don't think this is making a big deal of a non-issue. I think it goes without saying that there will always be a group of people (most likely those directly affected by the represented conflict) who will react negatively to this kind of real-life/war representation, and seeing how topically this seems to be edgier, I'm not sure how it's not newsworthy.
  18. ahh, ending my breakfast with a cup of vanilla/java milkshake? win.
  19. OMG birthday!!!!! happy birthday! ahh
  20. though it's i guess preferred to eat until you can start to see the light in the sky, i've always been ok (i.e., not dying by sunset) eating around midnight.. though since this year Ramadan starts in the summer when the days are much longer (7:45 pm sunsets? omg), i'm not sure if that'll fly for me this year. so i guess my point is if you can't do the waking up thing, you could try eating a large meal just before you normally sleep instead (or try and stay up late like upthorn suggested) edit #5 counting ninja-edits: also, if you forget you're fasting and eat/drink something, don't quit; keep going through the day. if you realize you are supposed to be fasting with food/drink still in your mouth, just spit it out. if you've already consumed it, no harm. the same goes for like smoking and stuff, though i've never heard an opinion about sex...
  21. Only 10 reviews? Such a beautiful piece of work and only 10 reviews.. I don't believe I can ever think of FFIV again without thinking of this remix, with its evolving mood and interest that very much match up to my experiences with FFIV : mild fascination at first, but passionate adoration by the time I fought Zeromus. I thought it welded the two themes together very agreeably and sensibly, taking the listener on a nice little musical journey into the major themes of FFIV. A great way to start off the album, no doubt.
