Why hello there! I've been doing a few remixes for people here and there and i think i might give this one a shot. I usually stay on the hard rock/metal side when i remix, but i think you might enjoy the outcome. I just did a remix for the boss theme from Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island for the SNES and the thread is a little below this thread on the forum page for remix requests.

I'm glad you enjoyed it Gario. Like i said, this was a lot of fun to do cause its just an intense track to begin with and epic is definitely what i was going for. I lowered the high's tremendously on the EQ's for all the tracks. Especially the ones that jumped out too far. I also reworked the volumes so the leads stand out much more as well. I'm hoping this is sounding better. As for the part :21, are you talking about the guitar? Or the orchestra behind it? I think i might actually sub this one, but only if i can get the production tight. I know the judges like the more interpretative side of remixing nowadays. Which is actually better anyways. You can go on youtube and find a handful of just covers but find no remixes for that track. http://ocrwip.fireslash.net/?fid=243

Alright. I was in the remix request forum and saw that someone wanted an epic metal version of the big boss theme from Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island for the SNES. This was requested by a forum user, Swordbreaker and KyleJCrb kept it alive. Gario also said he wouldn't mind hearing a metal version of this song. Anyways. It clocks in at 5:13 long, but its not at all repetitive. I tried adding some new sections and interludes that set it apart from the original theme. I'm pretty sure i've got all my writing done that i wanna do. As for the production/mixing, most of that is done as well, but i'm not sure if its as crisp as it could be. I think maybe some of the volumes need to be adjusted as well as EQ, but i wanted to put this up for critique in the mean time. Let me know what ya guys think. Alright. I've got a pretty good WIP for you guys to check out. All of the writing is done, unless i wanna go back and touch something up. As for the production, most of that is done as well. I think just minor touches have to be here and there with the volumes and EQs. All in all, i had a lot of fun remixing this one. The source tune is awesome and i'm hoping i did it justice with this mix. Let me know what ya guys think. WIP: http://ocrwip.fireslash.net/?fid=242 or

I'm almost to the point of posting a WIP. I've now got the bass track and almost all the leads done as well. I've also got all the orchestration and such done for other parts of the mix. This is on top of the rhythm guitars and drums i had already had done. I still need to the intro orchestra/choir parts i wanna transcribe into the mix. I've still got a lot mixing to do, but almost all the writing is now done.

Just a quick update. I already did the drum track and laid down the rhythm guitars. I even did one of the solos for my breakdown section. Tomorrow i'll probably do the bass line and choir/orchestra's for the intro and interlude parts i included in the mix. All in all, its shaping up. When it gets to a pretty good state i'll post it here and in the WIP forum as well.

Well I will then!

Mega Man Battle Network 4 Virus Battle ReMix

Yeah, this is really my first venture into an all electronic type of mix. I really wanted to add guitars in the pre-writing stages of this mix, but due to problems with my guitar recording equip i couldn't. So i figured i try and write it all on the pc. I appreciate your comments and i've been spending countless time trying to everything sounding nice. I'm gonna work out those problems you mentioned and see what i end up with. -
Are you talking about this theme? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3xDjN45wheM Cause if so, i'm looking for something to do my next remix of and i think that one would be awesome as an epic-metal track. Here's an example of my Zelda dungeon remix: http://ocrwip.fireslash.net/?fid=232

I realized that after i posted the link that the previous version was off by a lot in terms of production. This one is much better now: http://ocrwip.fireslash.net/?fid=230 -
awesome zelda darkworld (putting on the finishing touches)
jabond23 replied to halc's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
I gotta admit man. When i read "awesome" in the thread description, i was a little skeptical. You threw that right at the window though when i heard this. I can't really complain about anything in thie mix. The production is damn tight. All the instruments have plenty of room and air space. There's no clipping, hissing, or distortions going on here and the volumes seems spot on. If you looking for any suggestions, what about a adding a nice solo in there either by the synth doing the sweeping scales or the flute synth doing the lead? Or you could do a solo of each and then have one where the both of them are harmonizing each other? That might sound pretty cool. Other than that, maybe increasing the low's in the EQ for the bass line and drums. Just to give them a little more punch when they come in. It also seems that you increased the BPM. Not that its a bad thing, i just thought it was interesting. Sometimes people don't mess with the BPM. They just keep it where it is. Otherwise man, it seems that this is pretty damn "awesome" already! -

Yeah, i meant to upload the version i did after that one. I changed the one instrument, the "alarm clock" one, and changed some of the notes around to note be so abrasive and right in your face. I also let up on the compression a lot and it seems to be a lot more coherent. I also upped the bpm from 154 to 160 just to give it a more upbeat kinda sound. http://ocrwip.fireslash.net/?fid=227 Also, here's a link to the source: since i probably should've posted that in the first place. -
Yeah. That repeating voice thing doesn't have to be throughout the whole mix. I know what you were trying to go for with that, the whole crystal method sound, but its a little too much i think for a video game remix. If you like it though, by all means keep it cause its not terrible. I agree with Rozo about adding a rude, loud sort of lead. Maybe add the lead after what you already have as a sort of solo section followed by a nice breakdown. Otherwise the production seems to be spot on and perfect so far. The drum beat kicks nicely and i can hear the source in there as well. Of course i assume that you intend to make it a lot longer as well. A good start so far.

Alright. This is a VERY interesting mix, and by interesting, i mean not very well produced. You've got all the parts down but there's a lot of fixing up needed here. First off, that midi/electronic guitar thing is very loud and abrasive. You could try turning it down a lot so its there but not overwhelming. Actually, you should turn the whole mix down a couple clicks. However, i noticed there's really no clipping or distorted parts due to bad volumes/effects. So that's a major plus on your part. That weird chorus/singing part is a little odd. I think maybe adding some reverb and very nice delay could help that out. That drum beat is a little repetitive, but i know your going for what the original sounded like. Switching up the beat every now and then would help diversify it. Maybe add a an extra bass drum kick here and there. I can't tell if there's a bass line or not, but adding one wouldn't hurt the track either. Those sound effects that jump around here and there aren't too bad either, but i think maybe adding a phaser or flanger to it might make them more distinct and not just jump out at you. The overall track kinda gets repetitive, but that can be easily fixed. Try adding a verse or so in between where its just the drum beat with maybe a nice bass line. Also adding a breakdown before the last part would be nice. Adding a solo might be too much to handle right now, but that would be kinda cool too. Don't get me wrong, i'm not bashing your mix. Believe me. I've been there, but i'm not at all making fun of your mix buddy. All in all, it has potential, but needs some work my friend. It'll get there in time.

Hey man. This is decent. I like the tone. It reminds me of a really old kinda mob movie. The piano has a very nice sounding tone to it and it seems the keyboard is doing its job just nicely. Its funny, cause once you use a keyboard with mod/pitch wheels and velocity sensitive notes its hard to use any other style keyboard. I have a keyboard with all the bells and whistles but have been neglecting it for my guitar recently. That's probably ok, cause i'm a hell of a lot better at guitar then the keyboard. Still, its nice little diddy that you threw together and i'm interested in what else you've got planned with your newly "acquired" keyboard.

I understand what the limits are. I'm just leaving it like that so its as clear as possible right until i actually sub it. -

Yeah, i kinda noticed that myself. I'm fixing that and adding a lot cymbals and hi-hats to fix the monotony of that as well. -
I'm really liking this. Everything sounds right where it should be. You've got synths panned all over and the drums sound amazing. I kinda wanna know what kit/program those are? That solo/breakdown section is a very nice touch as well. It seems the EQing and balancing is also spot on. You've clearly spent a lot of time on this project. Good luck man, but i don't think you'll need it!

Mega Man Battle Network 4 Virus Battle ReMix

Stupid me forgot to post the source tune: or http://vgmusic.com/music/console/nintendo/gba/hm-exe4battle.mid The youtube video is the actual song but is actually some gameplay footage. The midi file link is the actual track by itself. This is also an update over the previous post. -
I gotta say, this should make it past the judges. The bass line rocks like a techno mix should along with the drums. That high lead is nice now. It really adds to the atmosphere of the track. The couple quick breaks with that pulsating synth are a very nice touch and add to the whole techno/trance vibe. The break at 1:27 is a nice touch and the fade back in around 1:52 is awesome. I really like the change up in the bass line/drum beat as well when everything comes back in. It makes it less repetitive and more appealing. The breakdown at 2:30 is also a nice touch. It seems a tad longer than originally what you had posted but i like it. As for how the ending is written now i don't think its a big deal that it fades out like that. If you wanted a subtle change try fading each instrument out individually and then maybe that pulsating synth, or whatever instrument is left, could just play one last and loud note. Alternatively, after each instrument fades out individually, have them all come back for one last quick loud note along with a drum kick or something along those lines. All in all, it seems likes its ready. YEAH!

I know this was a posting before but for some reason i can't find it anymore. Is there some time limit on threads? I looks like 2 months... Anyways the point of taking up your time is that i finally have a new update that i wanna try and resub to the judges panel now. I tweaked a lot around with this version. I did a lot of EQ changes and volume changes. I also messed around with the bass line and moved some of the notes around cause the original bass line seemed to plain and boring. I think everything else is just about where i want it, but i really wanna make sure its top notch before subbing it a third time. I already subbed this twice, but i'm hoping that after spending all this time on this mix that i'll finally pass the third time.
