wip Zelda: Haunted Windmill - Ruins of Kakariko
Spakku replied to CodeD64's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
When I said "two at most" I meant two of my suggestions, not two parts. Don't think I was clear there. -
wip Zelda: Haunted Windmill - Ruins of Kakariko

So what I'm hearing is ORGANS!! and then Melody! and then and then the rest. You gotta balance it out a bit more. You're going full-blast haunted amusement park with the arrangement - badass and faithful to the source, I might add - but that doesn't really work for a whole song. What you've got now is all "boo" with barely any tension building to give it any power. Anything you can build up in 30 seconds is long dead after 3 minutes have gone by. You could build longer (either more drawn out what you already have or start with what you've got and hit harder, both would work) or you could wind down at parts. Two at the most, though, I think all of them would be overkill. And more variety wouldn't hurt. Also, this is the least melancholy song I've ever heard called melancholy. It's all aggression, there's no sadness at all. -
My only feedback: It kicks ass. Make more of it. Not being able to come up with any criticisms.

finished One Winged Angel- all parts played on guitars
Spakku replied to agellerv's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Pff. All parts but the percussion, you mean. The whole thing is garbage. Seriously, though, that was actually pretty awesome. -
finished Starfox Boss B HD : ) (Thy Epic Version)
Spakku replied to SonicThHedgog's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
It's a pretty good cover, basically just the original but harder. Wouldn't listen to it on an mp3 player or anything but if it were in Brawl I'd set its My Music bar pretty high, which I guess is all you could ask for in a cover. -
wip Sonic 2 Boss Remix (Robotnik Surprise)
Spakku replied to SilverstepP's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
The percussion seems to be off in its own world ignoring the rest of the song. You're gonna have to completely rewrite that. Dig the mellow melody juxtaposed with the excited guitar. I'm liking the guitar part in how it compliments the melody but of course you'll need a way more realistic-sounding guitar for it to work. And you probably shouldn't play it the whole time, it gets pretty grating. The end sounds awful, but in later stages it might not. At any rate, I advise you not to end with it. -
wip Yoshi's Island intro for the piano
Spakku replied to Iggy Koopa's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
I didn't say much else because there isn't much else to say. The issue is simple and requires few words to describe. I'm saying it doesn't work because the melody doesn't fit with the style you want it to. It's not that I personally dislike the style; I've heard plenty that I can dislike and still acknowledge as a good fit. And this just isn't a good fit. If you want to change the feel of this melody you need a lot more backing it than solo piano is going to offer in this case. -
wip Castlevania Symphony Of the Night Tragic prince metal maybe
Spakku replied to Danneman's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
HoboKa, I think maybe your speakers just can't handle this mad guitarage. Speaking of said mad guitarage, the guitar feels kind of out of place during the first minute, with the slower pace and generally lower energy. I'd have maybe played it a bit softer during the mellow portion. Then at 1:10 the mad guitarage can hit full force and make you feel that transition a lot harder. At 2:30 you play eight seconds of a Hyrule Castle segue so damn smooth I almost think the source was written as an extension of it. And then you just go back to the original theme without a second thought? That's evil, Danny-man. -
wip Yoshi's Island intro for the piano
Spakku replied to Iggy Koopa's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
If Yoshi's Island was a late-80s/early-90s sitcom, this would be the piano reprisal they play at the end of the main theme's melody. I don't mean to offend but you're trying to make a lullaby sound upbeat, it just sounds forced. I don't think its possible to make this tune work in that style. -
This thing was freaking boring. It's Robotnik, man, give us big, scary, crazy! Volume, variation, energy, ANGER. I'm not hearing giant, murderous robot. I'm not even hearing glorious mustache.

Again, it's better all around. I'm beginning to feel you don't need much of any feedback at all, even from someone who knows what he's talking about. But, hell, keep us posted.

finished Legend of Zelda - Dark World Remix
Spakku replied to WillRock's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Those three little people in the Tindeck graphic? I'm the dude on the right at about twenty seconds in. This sounds pretty done. -
wip Chrono Cross Dead Sea Vocal Manipulation
Spakku replied to FMBI's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
I'm not hearing the source hardly at all in this. Likely due to it being really short and quiet. Sounds awesome in it's own right, though. Perhaps with length it will clarify, I'm looking forward to it. -
When you said the vocals wouldn't be great, I was expecting lyrics. "Da"s and "oooah"s are okay in moderation, but that's overkill. It certainly needs to be polished a bit, but was this ever a huge step forward. I think you went from under one minute to over nine, and all of it sounds pretty good except the vocals.

finished [Twilight Princess] Party Down in Kakariko
Spakku replied to mjanzen128's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
I'm not hearing the Twilight Princess variations on Kakariko at all, you'd do better to attribute it to Link to the Past. The concert applause at the beginning and end don't really fit with the very synthetic-sounding samples, and chiptune bits no less. Other than that, I just plain don't like the style, so I can't be very constructive. -
wip Chemixtrixx (Sonic 2: Chemical Plant Zone)
Spakku replied to PrototypeRaptor's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
When I was little I used to hit the mute button over and over while my sister was trying to watch TV. So nostalgic. Seriously, though, this mix is pretty cool. -
wip Chemical Planet (Chemical Plant Zone - Sonic the Hedgehog 2)
Spakku replied to manamaniac's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Well, that sounds much nicer. Unfortunately I don't much like jazz, so this is where my input probably ends. -
wip Ride of the Hero [Legend of Zelda Theme]
Spakku replied to DragnBreth's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Diggin' the little changes to the melody, it'd almost make believable trailer music at this point. I could swear I'm hearing tiny bits from different songs of the series mixed in and it sounds quite nice. I think this needs to be a little faster. The way you're using those higher strings sounds off with their speed the whole way through (not to the rest of the track, just to how they're usually played), and I think it could give it a little more energy which wouldn't hurt given the style of arrangement. 1:45 to 2:00 sounds slightly off-key. Given the way the section sounds, I'm guessing that's for effect, sort of a disorientation thing going on but, as is, it doesn't work. -
wip Chemical Planet (Chemical Plant Zone - Sonic the Hedgehog 2)
Spakku replied to manamaniac's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
The sax is so rigid. I get the impression you're trying to make it jazz or jazz-like but that saxophone just plays so dang mechanically, it's just forced. There's an instrument which sounds so incredibly fake I've no idea what it's supposed to be. I can tell you it ain't the bass or the drums or the cymbals or the sax, and I can tell you it needs to change. -
I saw the title and expected another freaking Gerudo Valley mix. So that was a pleasant surprise. This is probably the least energetic rave song I've ever heard. More speed, louder parts. Less repetition of the same chunk of the Hidden Village theme and more variation in its use, the original track felt more varied than your remix of it. It'd help with the variation if you used the Gerudo Desert and Overworld themes for more than just bookends. If you could integrate parts into the meat of your song it'd be more interesting all around. 1:00 through 1:45 totally sound like Mass Effect, take that as you will. I've heard praise for that sound track but I thought it was rather boring, myself. Still, 45 seconds of uneventful sci-fi groove ain't as bad as a whole game's worth. Also, murdering the rhythm and rebuilding it to something which, as far as I can tell, is about the same seems kind of counter-productive. Is rave music not meant to be danced to? As much as I can relate to the goal of making a crowded room-full of people suddenly feel very awkward, I'd advise you not to go through with it.

Geez, ONE FREAKING TIME. -
What I first thought of. And I mean freaking immediately. How can you not pair it up with Gerudo Valley?

Man With the Machine Gun Battle theme of one Laguna Loire, a sometimes alternate protagonist, of Final Fantasy VIII. -
finished Trigger Happy Laguna (The Man With The Machine Gun)
Spakku replied to General Gilliam's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
A lot of this sounds like it came off a Genesis, and not in a good way; some of your samples are just terrible quality. Kicking right off with the "aah"s in the background was overkill, you can't just skip right to the drama. The song was really repetitive, and you could probably squeeze that same amount of variation into a way more pleasing three or four minutes. It ain't bad, though. The ending in particular sounded pretty badass, cutting away to just the drums, the bass, and the bloops. I'd have used that for the intro, myself, transition into the song a bit before you bring in the cheesy voxes. -

Tear you apart? This kicks ass! Until now I'd have thought you could never cross Kingdom Hearts and chiptunes. And out of an FFVIII song, no less.
