Final Fantasy 7 'Jenova Project APPROVED'
Spakku replied to Nekofrog's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
I'm with SOC. Not the kazoo part, but that it doesn't sound particularly original until 1:16. That's when it sounds best, regardless of originality, because you completely altered the tone of the song. Also, it seemed to cut off so suddenly that before I looked at my Winamp player I checked my speaker cords. -
Chrono Trigger 'Factory Ruins' (attempt #2)
Spakku replied to HoboKa's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
The title would have me believe that this is a dance mix but it feels really ambient. -
Sonic the Hedgehog 'Blood Red Marble' (Marble Zone)
Spakku replied to TheGuitarHero's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
The guitar in the first 2/3 is timed exactly with the source and clashes pretty bad with the genre. The rest of it's pretty good, so far. I look forward to hearing more than 46 seconds of this. -
Slowing down Kirby music without losing any recognition is quite a feat in itself, and I commend you for that. This whole track, while it's already pretty good, feels like it could be more. I wish I could be less vague about it, but you've got a few gallons of potential left in there.

Zelda 'Underworld (Sane Ganon Mix)'
Spakku replied to tikitikirevenge's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
I never noticed this before. I'm sorry if we've offended you, but what you've got is pretty funny. If you don't want us to laugh at this, still get a stronger voice for Ganon (as I suggested already) but it's all but impossible to take his nana-ing the main melody the least bit seriously. You might be able to keep that segment along with his dignity if you get an inhumanly good voice-actor/singer, but I doubt there's anybody that good. Also, get a voice-actor/singer that can get that pitch without computer effects, because it's pretty distorted. -
Zelda: Link's Awakening 'Tal Tal Mountain Range'
Spakku replied to WillRock's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Hang on, it's the other way around. Valley of the Kings by Blue Murder. -
You've got a lot of work to do on this. Your instruments all sound like a lower-quality midi than the original work. You need some better samples. Nick never speaks so calmly, if you're going to use quotes then yell them. Screw up your face and point accusingly to get in character. Change more. All you seem to have done is add in the odd voice clip and switch up instrumentation to what sounds like two old techno sounds and a harpsichord; you need stronger variance from the source tune, as hard as it is to improve on one of the catchiest video game songs in recent years. I wish you the best of luck, because this site needs more Wright.

Zelda: Link's Awakening 'Tal Tal Mountain Range'

I can't help but notice that Winamp says that this song is Blue Murder by Valley of the Kings. -
I'm with Rozov, you should accentuate the quiet background melody that pops in for the boss music. It sounds great, but you can't hear it.
-
I don't think this song on its own can hold in the genre. It's a good sound, but it doesn't feel like it warrants its own track.
-
Well, it's nice. But I don't think this'll get through the judges. I recommend hanging on to it and throwing into a remix of a Capcom game.

Zelda 'Underworld (Sane Ganon Mix)'
Spakku replied to tikitikirevenge's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
My only real gripe with this is that your voice is way too non-intimidating. I know the VO isn't supposed to be taken seriously, but it'll be funnier the more serious the actor takes it. -
I'm having trouble hearing your ideas through this midi filter. It's like playing Earthworm Jim 2 on the Genesis. I can tell you're heart's in the right place, but the low quality audio is in the spotlight. If you can get some higher-quality samples, that would be a drastic improvement already. This may sound a little harsh, but believe me when I say that you can make this good.

Zelda: Ocarina of Time 'Serenade of Storms'
Spakku replied to BlazingDragon's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Octave-swapping in the end was beautifully done. I commend you. -
Here's the source tune: I really pulled that up for myself, but I might as well post it. All I can really say is that it sounds muffled until some of the background cuts out near the middle and end. I'm fine with that background track being muffled, because it adds to the ambient nature, but when it interferes with the rest of the sound it's a problem. Aside from the muffledness, though, I like what you've got going here. EDIT: Wow, auto-embedding! That's bad ass.

I'm a fan of neither the genre nor the source tune. I do, however, acknowledge that this is a perfect translation of the original tune into a new genre. One in which something new is added and the tune sounds like it belongs. In short, it sounds like it was written for light jazz and you're a fine pianist. I can't really criticize on the finer points until I hear the higher-quality one you're hiding from us, though.

Morrowind 'Off to Morrowind' (Main Theme)
Spakku replied to sirgareth's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
This blows me away with all the variety! Just as soon as I think I know where this track's going it punches me in the head. The brass section being brought in at the end was a thing of beauty. I honestly have no criticisms. I just wanted you to know that this is one of the most diverse songs I have ever heard. That, and I want to have your bastard love-child. My man-genitals may make that difficult... -
It's got a good sound to it but it seems kinda dry, content-wise; it needs more variation. All of the instruments seem...flat for lack of a better vocabulary. Playing around with my equalizer helped, so I think you should do some more of that on your end. Also, I'm pretty sure "funk" isn't the word you're looking for, this doesn't sound like funk music. Nor is it in any way scented.

I think that's your computer, Kirinja, it's balanced for me. -
Zelda: Ocarina of Time 'Serenade of Storms'
Spakku replied to BlazingDragon's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
I'm listening to this back to back with itself because of NewGrounds's constant looping of it, and I must say the almost unchanged Serenade of Water makes a solid ending to it. If you tweaked the tail end of the Serenade a little it could make a good close to the song, I think. Making a sad song on a piano is too over-done but I must admit it always sounds good. -

The whole instrumentation has sort of a 16-bit flavor (DKC on slow parts, Megaman on the fast). I love that, myself, but I'm afraid others might disrespect it. Also, the repeat & fade is one of the weakest of all song ending types, you should write a proper ending to it. Anyways, it's a great source material and you give it a style which both is different and fitting of the melody, which is the biggest compliment you can give an already good song.
