djpretzel reacted to Gario in OverChoral ReMix: A VG Choral Arrangement Group
    Hey there, beautiful OCR people!
    OverChoral ReMix!
It's an idea that I've been juggling for many years, and yet I've either never had the time or got too distracted with other projects and such to get it off the ground. Since I've been in pretty solid shape over the last year, though, I've decided to give this a real shot.
There is a LOT of talent on here, and this is something that I can see coming together and really creating some spectacular music that no one in the community has ever heard before, but it's also something that no one can do alone, either. We need an OCR community choir, and I'm here to offer direction to this group.
I will likely be messaging a few people that have shown some form of interest in this effort in the past, but I'm also inviting anyone and everyone to give this a chance, if they have any inclination to do so. If you've ever sung in anything in the past, you will most certainly help. If you can read sheet music to any degree, you will be an absolute asset to this initiative (though I'll work with you if you can't read sheet music). If you can compose and want to supply the group with a VG arrangement, I absolutely insist you send it our way (once we've become established, of course!).
To give you an idea of how this will work: If someone produces a solid choral VG arrangement (score, lyrics, etc.), we will sing it, and I will mix it to make it sound like we're singing in a choir. If needed, I will figure out a way to conduct for everyone (brushin' up on my conducting skills!), and I will help with diction (pronunciation), as necessary.
To make something like this work, we need to have a solid mix of voices. This includes:
        - Sopranos (Presumptive range: Middle "C" to "A" two octaves above)
        - Altos (Presumptive range: "F" below middle C to middle "C" an octave above)
        - Tenors (Presumptive range: "C" below middle C to "G" above middle C)
        - Bass (Presumptive range: "E" an octave and a half below middle C to Middle "C")
This will not work without at least two people per range, though we can use more than that if others decide to participate (and I hope that they do). This sort of thing has been done before (think FF4 album's Fabul's Men's Choir), and I won't lie that this idea was inspired by this, in some sense. It has also been done on a far larger scale by Eric Whitacre (which turned out beautifully, by the way). This will hopefully be somewhere in between those two examples in terms of scope.
I absolutely look forward to working with anyone and everyone that is willing to be involved in this. Currently, I have one arrangement that we can work through, in order to see how well this works in practice (and, let's face it, to make a kick-ass choral VG arrangement, to boot), and I'm hoping that in time we can make more music like it if it works out well. Post in here or PM me if you're at all interested! Be sure to provide your vocal range that you can work comfortably in.
    Let's make this happen.

Thanks to feedback from @Daniel Caton (thanks) & OCR staff, we've made some substantial improvements to the workshop skills pages, e.g.:
    http://ocremix.org/workshop/skill/studio-one http://ocremix.org/workshop/skill/vocals-female http://ocremix.org/workshop/skill/french-horn Changes are as follows:
Switched to bootstrap tables Switched to font-awesome icons "join date" is now "joined" and is just the year "last visited" is now "visited" "real name" moved under user name user name larger "real name" column replaced with "skills / tools" column, including DAW & instrumental Secondary sort added on visited (sorts by collab status first, then visited date, DESC) Made additional instrument links clickable Made DAW links clickable icons The last four items are bold since I think they represent the biggest improvement - now, when looking at members who have specified one skill, you can see the other skills they have specified as well, and you can click on those skills to jump around a bit. Plus fancypants DAW icons. And the sorting based on last visited (most recent first) gives you a good idea of who's more likely to be around/available.
Feedback appreciated, although this was kind of a "burst" of energy for these specific pages, knowing full well I might not get back to updating them for awhile given more pressing concerns
    GET COLLABORATIN' Y'ALL!!

@Koriantor Yes.... actually, we've built out a "remix_attachments" table and the requisite functionality, we just need to upload what we've got, incorporate it into the front-end of the site, and do a call for sheet music, MIDI files, etc. from artists.
The same mechanism is also intended to eventually provide lossless FLAC versions, when we're sure we can handle it.
@Dhsu We can & will centralize everything here & host it ourselves, permanently... and we're close to doing so.... what we could use right now is someone willing to gather everything in one place for us so that when we ARE ready to roll, we can pull it all in. Any assistance in this regard is greatly appreciated!

Just got reminded at discord, so I need to throw in. I failed last year and don't want it to happen again. I want to get this great concept I have out of the way for the holiday. Time is already short, so not cool, but please bug me all you want about this. I'm serious: I'm always swamped with stuff, but very little of it is immediately consequential. I'm following discord reasonably well, so hit me up whenever.

Okay, I've fixed the Reuben Kee links. Some central/cloud hosting sounds like a great idea though!

Looks like a good number of the links are broken.  I'm desperately looking for a copy of Reuben Kee's "The Place We Knew"
Has OCR considered hosting sheets itself if provided by the remixer?  I love playing OC ReMixes, but over time people neglect their personal sites so the sheet music is lost.  If OCR doesn't host, having a central hosting on Google Drive or dropbox would make it a little more permanent than trying to scour the internet or rolling the dice with the waybackwhen machine.  Thoughts?

This particular saga is ended; Brandon has requested removal of his mixes from OCR, and we have decided that it makes sense, given his continued reluctance to admit any wrongdoing and continued insistence that we are in some way at fault / corrupt / whatever.
Put frankly, I don't trust him, I don't believe he learned anything from any of this, and I believe he'd just do it all over again in a heartbeat the next time something came up that he didn't like, didn't understand, misinterpreted, etc. As much of a fan as I am of the music he personally has released via OCR, which we have stood behind, and the albums he has coordinated... if I'm taking time away from my daughters to work on OCR, it has to be for the music, for the site, and for the community, not for the twisted ego & paranoia of a single artist intent on stirring up drama, baiting people, making unfounded accusations, etc.
I am willing to endure quite a bit for the betterment of OCR, and I realize that not ALL of the tasks that I'm responsible for are going to be fun, or enjoyable, or without controversy, but I cannot be expected to indefinitely babysit the fragile ego/psyche of someone who continuously makes bad faith accusations without evidence and sees no fault in his own actions, not to mention a LONG history of claims of harassment by other community members, abusive behavior on the forums, etc.
We will be mailing FF3 artists as well as collaborators who have worked with Brandon on posted mixes, as those will remain on the site unless a consensus decision to remove is reached by all parties. Existing published albums are unaffected by this process.
It's sad, but my goodness... I can't be expected to have unlimited patience and tolerance, nor can our staff. Long time coming. Time to move on.

Emphasis on artist links is front and center, including support links for patreon, oc records, etc. Definitely a work-in-progress, but since it was better than what we HAD, we're going live now and will iterate Other pages will be updated to kinda-sorta match, as time allows This pushes us further towards an overall site redesign by getting pages laid out in Bootstrap, semi-responsive, etc. in a piecemeal fashion Feedback welcome

Progress is being made. I had my own unrealistic expectations on the pace of the mastering, but we're well on our way with that. It's one of the last things left to do. That excitement I had earlier this fall has subsided, but I have a feeling it's on its way back.

I enjoy long-form ambient very much and this is a welcome addition to OCR catalog, personally speaking. Well paced and sounds pleasant. The guitar samples are a little funny though, and some of the pitch bends kind of stick out here and there. As a plus the samples and their usage reminds me of old school tracker tunes. The good far outweighs the minor criticisms there.

djpretzel reacted to Cazetta in Maui Mallard remake in Unreal Engine - music
    Hello, friends!
Long time admirer of Ocremix. I'm trying to start a 3D artist carer and, as you, I like to remix some things from old games to practice. While you do it with music, I do it with 3D and Unreal Engine.

These are my first two remixed stages from Donkey Kong:

And now I'm trying my third one, this time the Ninja Training Grounds, from Maui Mallard - Cold Shadow, snes version.

    Some early pics:

What I want is basically a kick ass remix of that song that follows some simple requests:
-A little bit slower than the original.
-It appears the song has a mix between oriental and tribal styles. Please keep the same instruments and this 'tribal/oriental vibe', but sounding like real instruments instead of midi/chiptune.
-Keep the fidelity of the song, melody is the main part and the drums must be strong.
-Add greatness. Like Vincent Rubinetti's remix of Lockjaw's Saga on the second video above.
-You can add personal touches if you like, just don't add any electronic instrument please, keep the 'folk feeling' (maybe adding some shamisen, oriental flute etc).

Once it's ready, I'll upload the video on Youtube and ArtStation with a link to your page and the appropriate credits. I can send you a full hd version as well, so you can share it anywhere (just don't forget to link me if you do).

This is a non-profit work. We're doing it to sread ours skills and to enhance ours portfolios.
Ask me questions if you like, and thanks in advance. Let's do it? =D

We are now just 12 days away from the due date of Dec. 11.
Let that soak in folks. Less than two weeks to go before the project wraps up. Having just finished my remix's final touches, there are now three completed tracks for the album, with a good half dozen (roughly) being actively worked on by other people. As Dyne has said, for the people who REALLY want to get a song on the album but need a few extra days, the absolute cut off date is December 14 at 11:59 P.M. EST. But ideally, all songs should be done and submitted to both Dyne and myself by December 11 at 11:59 P.M. EST, that way we have enough time to put everything together without having to rush.
So for those who have gotten back to me and let me know what's going on with your remixes, thanks for the updates and keep up the good work thus far. And to the few who have stayed silent, I'm getting drones ready to play a constant, blaring loop of "Friday" outside your homes as I type.
Here's my email for those with finished tracks...

The one thing that I think has plagued Undertale music since its release was the (in my opinion) bland monotype covers.  Hearing the wonderful melodies of Undertale in one to one metal/electronic remixes with little or no deviation from the sheets isn't exactly something I would want to listen to.  But this album, now I can't give much in the way of useful critique or commentary, is fantastic music to listen to.  Looking forward to whats next from Longboxofchocolate.

This mix is cray-zay. It's much like a Gwar concert - you DEFINITELY should hear it at least once, but it takes a person of particular taste to listen TWICE. It's well produced and absolutely fascinating, but definitely an acquired taste when it comes to the style.
Great arrangement, but I would say it's not for everyone. Give it a shot, though - it might catch your ear in just the right way.
