  1. I get the feeling that the good ol' Ken Masters theme will see some tribute during this event.
  2. What a surprise! Seriously I'll never be able to understand this kind of recklessness coming from a bunch of smart people that expect me to pay 800$ for some unfinished product. You seem very knowledgeable when it comes to Sound Font technology. I've already seen the potential, but as you mentioned, the GUI issue makes it tedious to approach head on. It reminds me when I was only using Wave samples, and had gigas of data to pick from... But it always took so long to find the right sound, that I would inevitably end forgeting my idea.
  3. But does it suffers from an unbalanced sample quality like Colossus?
  4. That Rockman 2 video was awesome. I admit that some of the boss voices pinch the ears a little bit. But I also take in consideration the amount of work that this whole thing represents. Thanks for sharing this.
  5. It's a shame, really. It froze my computer yesterday while I was trying to load some sfARK format bank. Guess no developper ever gives crap about that format, even with sf2+. On a side note Overcoat, If you don't mind, I would be really interested in your feedback on RA?
  6. Done. Give me a shout if you need anything else. EDIT: the host time is up for this remix. If someone else ever wants to listen to it again, just post here and I'll put a link back.
  7. Anyone interested in some downloadable midis of Links Awakening's soundtrack? This is not the whole soundtrack, but I thought it could still be useful to someone. Sounds like a great project, filled with a lot of memories for those behind it. I hope it can come to fruition during this year. I dunno if I can bring the whole rock-electro-orchestral-melancholic vibe to life, but I'll give it a try.
  8. Roger that. I will definitely enquire about the legal issue, since I'm curious to know the answer too.
  9. You're welcome. Now you have no excuses not to make some kick ass remixes!
  10. VG music have this particularity of recreating a bond between emotions and memories, associated with the event of actually doing something in the game. Whereas on the other hand, you're only spectator of an anime or a movie (even if you feel something about it). I agree with the fact that you can totally love an OST without having ever played the game. But in this case, you associate the feeling with memories of something that took place outside off the game context. Personnaly, I listen to VG music a lot. And since I'm new at remixing, "study" would be the most appropriate term to qualify my approach. I'm more in the process of learning than enjoying, cause I see the music differently now . But in general I got pretty eclectic taste. I believe a lot of the people from this community are more open-minded, when it comes to music, than the vast majority of the population. That, IMO is due to the fact that more and more, video game music is widening, mixing genres and references, getting better and better. And people are starting to realize that VGM is not just 8bit sounds that makes your ears bleed.
  11. Glad someone noticed! Rockman & Forte needs some support. As a matter of fact, I'm currently remixing the Intro stage. I've listened to your renditions: there could be some improvements, and Gario did a big part of the work in pointing them out. Anyway, I'm following this from close range. If you're really planning to get the whole soundtrack done, that would be quite interesting.
  12. Don't be mad afterward if that sentence backfires at you. I'll listen to the album, and post if I'm confident I got enough skill to do something good. No cutout, half-finished things here. A good game deserves some good remixes.
  13. Just found out about Fan banners, they rock. And it can help people finding common interests. I'll be using one. Many thanks to The Coop & Txai for the links.
  14. Thanks, I've learned something here. And even thought I've never played House of the Dead, I learned typing with "Typing of the Dead" .
  15. This one is on my top priority list right now... with almost 35 other things. More seriously: one of my favorite games, one of my favorite composer. Yet no remix on the vanishing horizon... I can't say It'll be done in 2 days, but it's coming up, that's for sure. It'll be a solid challenge. Personally, I'll be going for the "Wyern" battle all the way.
  16. Here's the original source: 'Chrono Trigger - Fanfare 2' And I'm jumping in too... hope the requester is still among the living. Can you tell us what kind of remix you're looking for? (Genre, duration, etc.)
  17. Will definitely give it a try next week. On another note, I often wondered something about internet VG radios: Does playing some original game's music exposes you to some legal issues, even when airing on some small radio host, or with limited audience? Cause I was thinking back about "Gamin Fm", and I dunno if it ended because of this.
  18. I wouldn't call this remix a "song", but rather a "piece", like a piece from a score. At least that's how 'Flowers, Life and Memory' sounds to me. The memories it brings sure hit the right spot, if you've ever played the Lufia games. The overall orchestral presence is not as overwhelming as it could be, due to lack of reverb. It could have taken a lot more space, but the articulation is remarkable nonetheless. And as Dj Pretzel stated, the liberty in the use of silence is a sign of one's mastery. Some would think that 7 minutes is quite lenghty... But I'll go ahead and say that's the right amount of time to develop the story and share the feelings it conveys. And in the end it's pure bliss. Made me dream of an entire fan-arranged Lufia album.
  19. Thanks for that info, I was "struggling" with at least 3 IRC client, and Chatzilla fixed the problem nicely! It's pretty easy to figure things out, I'll play with it a little bit more... and hopefully join that next, very interesting & challenging, "one hour practice session".
  20. -Personal complain mode: ON How about Capcom stops messin' around, and finally delivers the long awaited remake of Bio Hazard 2 we're all (meaning only myself) craving for... Ah, sorry, my mistake. They've already done that with this upcoming pile of old-new rubbish called "Darkside Chronicles". For future reference, the insidiously poisoned trailer can be seen here: http://www.gametrailers.com/player/46617.html For Pete's sake, how could they manage to get that level of performance on a Wii, raising the expectations and anticipation so high, then ruin it all with a FPS that isn't even an FPS, but an animated cg movie with a couple of interactive cutscenes, and a lot of blinding eye candy. -Personal complain mode: OFF Anyway, a new CVS would rock, if they could ditch the horrid Morigan sprite. I'm a big Rockman fan. But I think the point of these HD remake is obviously the online contents and precisely the multi-player mode, thus the fighting game probability. But maybe they could make an HD version of "Megaman: the Power Fighters", arcade iteration from 1996, and quite enjoyable IMO... but not popular enough I guess.
  21. Think about it: when we'll be around 2021, and Capcom re-release a Okami XHDremix for the "Wii 3" virtual console, you'll be happy to know that you're already on the right website to be called for the making of the official remixed soundtrack. So I don't mean to pull your leg or anything, but can you please get it finished by then? Does 11 years seems a fair trade to you? Joke put apart, you really captured the essence of the game... game I hope you've played by now, because if not you're missing on a masterpiece. I never really thought someone could come so early at Masami Ueda's work on Okami... but man. Clearly i'm so amazed at what you did with soundfonts only, that I seriously consider throwing my VST to the bin... Only thing that pinch my ears a little, are those drums right at the start & near the end (when the begining part kind of repeat). It seem they saturate a little bit. Oh, and at 0:58... tribute to Final Fantasy, no? Just kidding. Great work. Awaiting the final release with anticipation.
  22. Choosing the correct DAW is kind of a personnal quest... no,no, I mean it! I've been using Cakewalk (& more recently Sonar) for at least 8 years now. The last time a friend of mine let me try his Cubase, I choked and almost litteraly puked on his MPC 5000! That doesn't mean Cubase is a bad program, far from it, that just means it's not for me. (at least for now) Choosing the right piece of software is a part of the whole process of becoming a proficient sound designer. It's more like you're building your "workstation" (should I say), and your style builds itself (or grows) along with it. Your creativity shouldn't be limited by a piece of hardware/software, but instead expanded by it. The subject here was :"Is Reaper worth switching to?". I can't really respond to that, having used it for a measly 15 minutes. But what I can affirm, is that whatever sequencer you choose, you are gonna have to make some concession. Whether it's midi sequencing or wave edit, or even handling VST. In fine, what's important for you is to define your priorities in terms of how do you approach the whole process of making music. What do you do first? What do you do most often? What is dispensable as of now? What couldn't you live without? When do we take lunch-break in this place? And so on...
  23. Luckily I know enough about computers to get me out of the most harsh situations. Still I've learned a few useful things thanks to this FAQ. Man I hope you realize you've just did one heck of a job! Gotta be some kind of one-men army or something!
  24. I started making music about 8 years ago, but I had already been writing lyrics and doing rap for 2 years. Back then I was so in need of instrmental productions, and so tired of waiting after some lazy self-proclamed Dj to align 2 pattern on his MPC2000, that I preferred to do it myself. I used some low-end, nasty piece of software, until I got (a bit late) Cakewalk in 2000. That's when I discovered both complex DAW, and my love for music composition. Since I've got no formal training, I kept learning stuff on my own, until I eventually got the hang of a few thing, and started kickin and making sounds for other people. I played the rap-game until 2005, when I realized that I was more up for making music than making local fiction & politics . From that time, I remember one thing: seeing FFVII Advent Children. My adolescence memories came back, and listening to Uematsu songs, I thought: "Man! He sure made those midi melodies sound like a hollywood movie score". That's when I knew that making music, just music, would be my thing. Since then I've been practicing, but not at all for remixing VG music. I just discovered OCR some time ago, and didn't even think it was possible before. So I'm here. And as Gario mentioned before, I realize the level of performance required to submit. I've been making music for almost half a decade now, and I do realize that I'm a complete newcomer here. Should I be afraid? Well I'm not afraid. I'm more excited by the challenge, by the prospect of learning and sharing knowledge about something we're all passionate about. I'm not that much of a gamer nowdays, but I still can hum some Rockman tunes like 1990 was yesteday!
