  1. Bioware had stated shortly after the release of ME3 that they did not want to pick a canon ending. That painted them into a huge corner by pretty much restricting any sequels to be prequels, sidequels or sequels set so far in the future and/or far from the Milky Way that the original trilogy doesn't impact the new entry. I was very much a fan of the first two options, though it seems the popular opinion, and the one Bioware went with, was to go for the third option. I have mixed feelings. Bioware has to distance themselves somehow from the original trilogy to make a sequel possible. If it's set far in the future, then we lose some of what made the setting in the original trilogy so interesting. For example, humans having just discovered life beyond Earth and Mass Effect technology being so new. If it's set in a far away galaxy, then we'll be separating from the politics in the Milky Way that still have plenty of room to explore. Plus the Milky way is huge. I can understand the need to move to Andromeda to overcome their writing obstacles, but it still feels like missed opportunity. The codex had established that less than 1% of the stars in the Milky Way had been explored at the time of the original trilogy. There's plenty more to explore in our backyard without having to metaphorically travel to Australia. I'm nervous/curious why we even need to go to Andromeda in the first place and how we even get there. Mass Effect's lore indicates that if the Reapers were capable of intergalactic travel it would take them a long time. There's a lot that has me nervous about the game. The original trilogy has made such a profound impact on my life that I'm scared that Andromeda won't live up to what made the originals so special to me. Bioware being so tight lipped about it doesn't help the anxiety, though I might be glad they didn't say much yet. From what little they have told us, Andromeda is going to focus heavily on exploration and discovery, and if that's the case then that sounds really cool and I want to discover the galaxy when I play the game, not when they show things off in the trailer. I think I'm going to treat Andromeda like a spiritual successor or parallel universe to the original trilogy rather than a direct sequel. It'll help me stay open minded about it if I encounter bits I don't like when I play it. Nervous but excited. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
  2. I cannot wait until Ekko is nerfed. He is way overtuned as he is now. In the meantime, do any of ya'll know good openings of when to fight him? Pre-6 he's vulnerable, but after that it feels impossible to go all in. When you do, he'll just shield + 2 second aoe stun (which I think is the most blatantly overpowered part of his kit) and then ult any damage away. The best thing I can come up with is use long-range pokey champs like xerath or vel'koz. The damage won't be enough for him to ult it away, so you poke him out of lane. Plus you won't be in range of his dash-blink. Thoughts?
  3. I'll join in! Did one last split with some friends and it was loads of fun shit-talking each other as the season went on.
  4. - It's a little more solemn than the Advent Children example, but I think it still fits (and even more so if you know the background behind it). - Side note: with the FF13 PC release, I've finally been able to play it and its been really disappointing for me. Based on what others have said, I'm not surprised about it either. Not relevant to the conversation, I'm just sad about it. ...At least the music's great! - If there's any song that fits it's this one. To the Moon's narrative deals with the same types of themes your looking for in the music. Great game. This is a fun exercise; keep the requests coming . Hope the answers are helpful for you!
  5. Skies of Arcadia might have a few the 2nd characteristic: Nervous Crisis 1 Nervous Crisis 2 Tales of Symphonia: - Perhaps the 2nd bullet. - Does this fit your 3rd request? They aren't exactly epic in the same way as Metal Gear or Deus Ex so I wouldn't be surprised if they're off-base from what you're looking for.
  6. Mass Effect has had a profound impact on my life, and the music played a big part of that. makes me feel like a small part of a grand civilization. The militaristic style of the melody reminds me of how complex the governments/politics in the Mass Effect universe are... and those synth choices! In the game, is an icy cold corporate planet. Corporations establish themselves there to avoid government regulations and prying eyes. Naturally there's an abundance of dark corporate secrets. Whenever I listen to this I imagine walking through the facilities on Noveria with snow storms raging outside. I'm safe from the weather, but it's just as tumultuous in the corporations as it is outside. I don't know, it's hard to describe this feeling. It feels like there's intrigue behind the scenes you don't know about. It feels like you're on a strange foreign planet. It feels like you're in the future. It feels like you're only a small part of the world. Well whatever it feels like, Noveria's theme captures the planet very well. Then there's a song on the planet . At this point in the game you're landing on a planet no one has visited before that contains troves of ruins from an ancient civilization while urgently chasing down the villain. The urgent nature of the situation doesn't allow you to stop and wonder about the immaculate ruins, and I think the track reflects that feeling very well. This place has a unique identity, and there's no time to explore it. It feels like a mystery....and then there's . Anyone who's played Mass Effect understands this one.***SPOILERS FOR MASS EFFECT 1*** Mass Effect introduced the Reapers as intimidating foes. They're basically Eldritch Abominations with sights set on kill all of modern civilization and they carry out a cycle of genocide every 50 thousand years. The Reapers are smarter, stronger, and more powerful in every way than the galaxy's civilization. There's a lot to fear from a Reaper invasion... and then at the end of Mass Effect 1 you talk with Vigil. Vigil is an old virtual intelligence from the previous civilization that was harvested by the Reapers. In one of the final scenes in the game Vigil speaks with your crew and the song Vigil plays. In the face of an expanse of darkness and fear, you see a ray of hope in the form of Vigil. ***END SPOILERS*** Vigil is also used in the and for Mass Effect 1. Sitting on the start screen is a majestic feeling, and I've sat there for 20 minutes before to revel in the feeling. Then you get to the main menu and it fades images of characters you interact with throughout the game. When you've played through the game before, you feel like you're looking at life long friends.Vigil makes you feel connected both with individuals on a local scale and to breathe in the complexity and beauty of the universe on a larger scale. Vigil, heck the whole game, was what opened my eyes to the beauty of the universe and the profoundness of existence. I've more, but I think this is enough for now. Might post again later.
  7. Zircon's production streaming is pretty rad, so I'd definitely tune into an event like this. I wonder how much of a general appeal it'd have. Maybe getting some other music production sites in on it too would boost the visibility.
  8. Bahamut, your gift should arrive any day now. Shipped it earlier this week. Hope you like it!
  9. 1.) Faith Connors 2.) Knuckles the punch-dude 3.) Spyro
  10. Brandon, if you were my victim I might consider intentionally holding it just to mess with you. You are not my victim though haha.
  11. Deia you're awesome! Thanks so much! I'm surprised you remembered our conversation about the shirt. Definitely made my day! Looking forward to replaying Chrono Trigger. Maybe this time I'll go for all the different endings. Also, The piranha plant was decapitated whilst shipping, but nothing some glue couldn't fix. Thanks a ton! Rad gifts! :D:D ...my victims gift just came in so it should be shipped on Monday. Sorry for the delay!
  12. My victim/benefactor will unfortunately not receive their gift in time. I had to custom order it, but rest-assured it is super neat and you will get it. Sorry about the delay!
  13. Monaco is really fun, especially with a group of friends. Great LAN game. Everyone on your team plays a different role in various "heists" such as the cleaner (knocks people out), the hacker (hacks computers/security systems quickly), the gentleman (can utilize disguises), the mole (digs a path through walls), and a few others. Really well designed and really fun.
  14. I'll be ordering the gift for my victim tomorrow. I'll have to have it ship to me first so I can add some extra goodies, and then it'll arrive before Christmas. In other words, your gift will be shipping like a poorly-written fan fiction.
  15. Historically people post what they got and who they got it from (or who they think if they're no indication) when they get their gift. Works out well I think.
  16. But here's the question that I've been haunted by since Marth's announcement. ...does Marth speak English now?
  17. I'd love to help you out, but I have some concerns. Call me paranoid, but I'm not too fond of the idea of running a program that I don't know the contents of from forum member that hasn't posted at all. Again, I'm happy to help. It just raises some red flags. I've a few questions. What specific data are you wanting to grab from us? Just a list of the location/filenames of all the OCR tracks in our music library? If that's all, would you mind githubbing the program you'll have us run to grab data? That way we can check the source and make sure the code isn't malicious. If all you need is a list of files (and their directories) I can just write my own script, but not everyone on OCR knows how to do that. Your project sounds interesting and I'd love to hear how you carry it out! I'm a CS student myself so I'd be really interested in your implementation.
  18. Well I recently got hired and have an income again! Now that I have an income, I can expand my budget a bit and hop in!
  19. I really really wish I had the money to participate this year. I'm inbetween jobs and really just can't afford it . ...next year though!
  20. How in the world does that work? Is that even legal? Are the games part of the laws of that universe or is it a societal artifact? And congradurations! May you two have a wonderful life.
  21. Do people still play on the server? If so, how might I acquire a whitelist status?
  22. Geez zircon you just pile on the work! I didn't expect you to go for two groups. Anyway, I'm good for Saturday. In addition I would also like to call dibs on the long-range damage dealer of the Ranger variety.
