  1. Unfortunately the reality of game development costs put some restriction on how many decisions could be expounded on. The numbers system was an acceptable alternative in my eyes (I'm a sucker for in-game text. I read all of the war asset descriptions). Then there's the whole, they intended the game to be ambiguous so you'd think about it. Take that how you will. I appreciated it since it got me thinking about the game, but not everyone does. I think the huge issue for me is how the war assests are practically meaningless pertaining to the ending. If you have 6000 war assests, your ending might be better than if you had 2000, but not by much. The ending is still depressing and nonsensical.
  2. It caught my eye. I just wish I could afford parting with money for this. I'm already over budget for the month. Will be picking the soundtrack up eventually. I love the sound of it!
  3. My roomates and I started work on making our first video game based on those mechanics. We're not very far (school got in the way) but definitely an awesome mechanic that I want to explore.
  4. I don't think the central theme was about Shepard. In fact, I don't think Shepard becomes a truly important character until Mass Effect 3. In Mass Effect 1 the focus was clearly on exploring the setting and introducing the story. What were the most memorable and key moments of Mass Effect 1? The conversation with Sovereign and the conversation with Vigil. Most everything in the game happened around Shepard, not because of him. Certainly Shepard helped defeat the bad guys and did a lot of good and cool stuff, but Shepard wasn't the focus. He enables everything else in the story to occur. (Yes he was the first human Spectre, but... I don't think that has much relevance to the point I'm trying to make). Mass Effect 2 became more character focused. It's focus was on your team. The main plot of ME2 was so bland and riddled with plot holes that every time I have to play it, I complain loudly so my cat understands how upset I am. Now on the other hand, the squad missions I absolutely love! From each character having their own music themes to the incredibly important decisions in the loyalty missions (e.g. Mordin's Loyalty). Bioware spent a lot of time crafting each character. In Mass Effect 1 you're introduced to the bigness of galactic politics and culture, while in Mass Effect 2 you're introduced to the detailed cultures through becoming friends with individuals in each of those cultures. Mordin became one of my absolute favorite characters because the game spent time on him. I learned about the details of the genophage from someone who worked on the team! I discovered Krogan culture through Grunt. I learned about a little more sensitive parts of Asari culture through Samara. I figured out who those lizard men from the trailer were through Thane (and he's one of my favorite characters too). Even though Shepard's resurrection seemed really important, they honestly could have replaced Shepard with someone else and still accomplished the focus of the game (discovering the galaxy through characters). Remember, the only reason Shepard needed resurrected was because they killed him off at the beginning. They could have just killed him and used a different character. Mass Effect 3's main theme is somewhat debatable, but what I gathered was Unity. The focus of Mass Effect 3 is to set aside the differences between all these cultures and unify them to take a stand against the Reapers. You are literally doing this throughout the entire game, whether it be the main plot or some fetch quest you got on the citadel. The reason I believe Shepard doesn't become important until 3 is because Shepard's character can't be replaced. In Mass Effect 1 and 2 you could replace Shepard with any generic hero, but in 3 Shepard is the only one that has the capability of bringing the races together (or rather make these important decisions). Mass Effect 1 - Introducing the Galaxy, introduce Reaper threat Mass Effect 2 - Discover details and culture of galaxy through Characters. Mass Effect 3 - Unify the galaxy to defeat Reaper threat Yes. That's part of space opera. But you know what else is part of Space Operas? Space LASERS. Pew pew pew! Joking aside that wasn't the issue with the ending in my mind. The ending choices were fine. The real problem was in the presentation. If they would have presented things in a different manner, addressed some of the really irksome questions (i.e. SPOILER Why is Liara getting off the crashed Normandy when she was lasered with me not a half hour ago? or Why is the Normandy trying to fly away from the energy ball? Did they leave the battle? /SPOILER) If they had drawn the ending out a little bit more and answered some of the immediate questions, a lot more people would have liked the ending. Overall the ending felt really really short. For a series that I've invested over 300 hours in, the ending seemed really brief and... unsatisfying for me. I think that's where the issues come from. Clarity and closure.
  5. Implementing every decision you make into an ending sequence is difficult. That would take a lot of extra bits. Sci-fi is all about big questions. The ending didn't give any closure to your decisions because the decisions in YOUR Mass Effect trilogy is undoubtedly different from the decisions in MY Mass Effect trilogy. Thus, the results would be different and the questions like "What happens next?" would be different. Still, I understand completely why people would be ticked off at it. I can see what Bioware might have been trying to do, but I don't think it was wise. I think if Bioware would have done the ending more like this excellent fellow, there would be a lot more praise and a little less rage. (The guy clarified some of the dialog and added some really interesting ideas that make sense. I love this ending.)
  6. bLiNd, the dubstep is awesome. This song made me appreciate dubstep as a musical element. Before I listened to this song, I disliked all dubstep, but you've proven dubstep is downright FUNicular when you use it as a musical element rather than the entirety of the track. Beautiful balance. It's been keeping me entertained for ages.
  7. THIS BUNDLE IS AMAZING AND YOU ALL ARE AMAZING FOR SELLING THE MUSICS! Seriously though, this is one of the best things I could spend my money on. The music is superb.
  8. Definitely added this to my "To-buy" list. Eye of the storm was enough to get me hooked.
  9. But then we wouldn't have had Gannondorf as the final boss. Those were probably the funnest and most rewarding boss fights I ever did fight.
  10. When Groose was "naming" the surface world I thought to myself "No way... No way... Is groose really the one who names Hyrule?" When he said "Grooseland" I laughed harder than I probably should have.
  11. Apparently I already knew a lot about technique? I'm just not very good at it yet. Thanks for the video Zircon. I definitely picked up a thing or two.
  12. I just discovered that a few days ago. I heard the dreamcast music and there definitely some pants changing afterwards. ...and good luck Modus!
  13. This is just SOPA under a different name. No really! SOPA wouldn't pass, but everyone will support a law against child porn right? I mean, you'd be insane NOT to support legislation against child porn! With this there would be access to all sorts of incriminating information concerning copyright violations. This is nuts. The government shouldn't force this on service providers. Lamar Smith has NO idea what he's doing with the internet, and I hope he instills the full wrath of the internet against him (you know, without screwing us over too hard). I'm in a dilemma over Mass Effect 3 on Origin because of privacy issues, and now I might have to worry about ISP's storing my info? This is just bullcrap. OT: So I definitely downloaded some things on an anonymous school account on mega upload. I wonder what would happen to them if action were to be taken...
  14. aaaaaaaaaaaaagggggGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! That is all. (for now. If I say more then I'll end up choking on my own bile)
  15. Had to go back and re-scan the list. Too bad I don't have a 3ds...
  16. I dunno about everyone else, but I'd definitely contribute more for OCR's donation drive. On the flipside, less traffic, lower cost for site maintenance.
  17. or really awesome creative ones! (Except for me... I'm both poor and uncreative (for gifts at least) so I take advantage of steam sales for my presents)
  18. I suppose I ought to say I sent my gift off.
  19. Definitely! I'm going next semester and then I work for the summer and I should be heading out in August (if all goes well). I'm pumped!

  20. After listening to Imposter Nostalgia it gets a little difficult listening to the borrowed part. I listen to it and expect to hear the wrong song! Other than that little minor tiny thing, this mix is a blast! When you said live violin's make such a difference Jimmy you were right. Solid mix!
  21. This sounds like Mass Effect. This awesomosity has quite the soundscape. The synths move, grow, build, drop, and create quite a chilling (pun intended. It's noveria...) experience.
  22. Here's my review count thus far: Close Door All Way Nova Siberia Thunderstruck More to come later...
