Yeah, the problem with trance is that what is labeled "trance" has changed so much over the years that they barely resemble each other. Compare Hello Strings by Synergy (released on Armin van Buuren's label) to Armin van Buuren's D# Fat. They're both on trance labels but barely sound alike.

Of course, it doesn't help that trance isn't really strictly defined by beat pattern and time signature like house, dubstep, etc. is. Trance nowadays tends to be applied to anything put out by a trance artist...even trance-y songs aren't considered "trance" if, say, put out by deadmau5 (I Remember is considered progressive house, not trance, despite being more "trance"-like than anything van Buuren's put out in the last five years). It's very muddied.

I had chills beginning at 0:12, and when 1:58 hit, it's like the temperature dropped twenty degrees. The arrangement is glorious and oozes of unbridled energy.

Man. I've been loving working with Eino and Jorito. These guys are amazing.
I only wish I was better at including them in my tracks.
I feel like team Maverick Astley is a competition almost. We all compete to see who can be the most whacky, but still coherent and impress the others.
I really love it and I really have to thank you for giving me this opportunity Darke. <3 You're the bae. xoxo

Although, there are a few exceptions to the rule darkesword pointed out regarding sharps and flats: some keys (e.g. g harmonic minor; G A Bb C D Eb F# G) will use sharps and flats in practice, but not in the key signature (g harmonic minor will still have the same key signature as g natural minor and Bb Major).

    WE FINALLY DOIN’ IT!
We need your help to add genre, mood, instrumentation and other tags to the OCR database.
    The full list of terms.
The minimum of what we need for every ReMix is:
Primary Genre (e.g. funk, metal, rap, EDM, jazz) Secondary Genres (when applicable) 1+ Mood (e.g. aggressive, goofy, romantic, sad) 2+ Instrumentation (e.g. acoustic-guitar, chiptune, piano, singing) Additional tag types we want to apply whenever possible:
Specific Arrangement aspects (e.g. # of instruments, minimalist, extended soloing) Effects (e.g. distortion, glitching, lo-fi, vocoder) Origin (e.g. collaboration, created for a compo) Live production aspects (e.g. live ensemble, live recording, use of live instruments) Regional influence (e.g. Celtic, Japanese, world) Time (e.g. tempo, long or short duration, time signature) Usage (e.g. workout, winter/holiday, Halloween, meditation) This is a serious project, so you need to have a good understanding of what the tags mean and also have a good ear for labeling genres and identifying instruments and moods. We want to build an accurate library of tags for the remixes on the site.
If you’re interested and you think you have what it takes, let us know right here in this thread and we’ll assign you a block of ReMixes to work on and PM you our tagging submission form where you can enter the data.
    THANKS!
    __
Can we add more tags to the list?
No! We don't plan on adding many other tags, but if a good case is made for something we've overlooked, we may add more.
    Note on genres:
We're not trying to add tags for every subgenre under the sun. We're going for pretty broad descriptions. We don't need "tribal Moombahcore chillwave"; EDM works just fine in most of those cases.
Note on using "epic" for mood:
We're not using "epic" as a synonym for awesome/amazing/yoooooooooooooo. We're using it to describe ReMixes that are grand, heroic, or anthemic in scope/tone, which isn't limited to orchestral and rock pieces.
    Note on lyrics and duration:
Larry has already handled lyric-specific tags (original, existing, explicit) for all lyrical ReMixes, and duration tags for long and short mixes.

    Problems?!
If you’re working on tagging your batch of ReMixes and run into an issue where something isn’t clear, then post here and let us know and we can help you.

That'd be cool Mike! Just please name all of your segments "with NutS", i.e., "Mixing with NutS", "Mastering with NutS". If you ever do segments with guest artists, they can be titled "When NutS aren't Enough", i.e., "When NutS aren't Enough: obsessive snare drum tweaking techniques featuring special guest Jivemaster"

I somewhat fixed my song and now, although it's not good, it's not a joke anymore.  Usa is helping me save it so there should be something at least listenable by tomorrow.  I'm done with the arrangement and I just need to add proper transitions and finishing touches/mix/master tomorrow.

Music will go up later tonight folks. Sorry, got caught up with some other things last night.

Also, remember guys, if you're having trouble coming up with an idea for your remix this week, you have team members you can bounce ideas off of. Get on Skype or something and start brainstorming. There's nothing wrong with having your team members come up with the seed of your arrangement, so long as you're the one expanding it out into a full piece.

Well, for these compos I usually think ahead of some directions I could go with the song I picked.  I had a couple of directions planned for this round.  Sometimes, when I hear the second source, I have an "a-ha!" moment and a new, better direction comes up in my mind.  Some other times though, all the plans you had are incompatible with the song for the week, and you can't think of anything good to do with it, so for those times I just accept it will suck and roll with it.
As for inspiration, it comes and goes for me.  I get periods where I can do several songs in a row and then I go for a month without doing anything new.  Listening to new music brings new ideas most of the time, regardless of the genre.  Sometimes I listen to a new latin jazz song and get inspiration to do a glitch hop track ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.  Go figure, inspiration is just weird.
Of course, you can just be talented and put out great music without even being inspired, alas, I just hack stuff together so I gotta take advantage of inspiration when it strikes.
