Esperado replied to Arrow's topic in General Discussion
Im in again! It should be much easier to get the time off because of the dates. -
Production Grand - a 437.5GB VST
Esperado replied to Meteo Xavier's topic in Music Composition & Production
while on the topic of extravagent piano VSTs. For real, how DO you tell the difference between which pianos are good and which are not? For example, i can tell the difference between 4frontpiano and say, alicias keys because alicias keys sounds a bit better. However Im not so sure i could tell between alicias keys, and say, vienna imperial, especially when used in a mix. is it in the subtle tonal differences? -
Excellent example! Are we talking only recent soundtracks or just in general ?

Im looking to improve my percussion arrangements in my mixes (not necissarily just the drums). I feel i have an alright understanding of how variation works, but I would like to dig a little deeper into what makes up good percussion. It seems like theres plenty of stuff out there about music theory in terms of chords and melodies , but not as much about percussion. Any good percussion related articles, blogs, books or other media? Any must-listen songs for drum arrangement?

For you it might not be too helpful since you seem to have been doing this a while. The main section that was most useful to me was the Effects segment of the course. They do a good job of explaining what each basic effect does to an audio signal. Otherwise, its best for a beginner looking to get a well rounded look at basic production concepts.

How do you feel towards your own music?
Esperado replied to Bejack's topic in Music Composition & Production
Personally, that's the best part of asking music . Standing back and really listening to a mix after working on it for hours. There's something special about that -
How do you feel towards your own music?
Esperado replied to Bejack's topic in Music Composition & Production
I definitely think its hard to tell a freind that you dont like the work theyve done, so mindwanderer is spot on with that. Another thing to keep in mind, is that if they dont make music, they probably dont notice all of your mistakes. I can think of plenty of songs that i loved before making my own music, that i realized were pretty amateur AFTER learning how to make music. Perspective plays a definite role in how others view your work. As for my own music, it depends on the day. Some days i love it, other days i wonder if i should keep making music. -
what is the built in EQ on a compressor used for?
Esperado replied to Esperado's topic in Music Composition & Production
genius. not sure why i didnt think to do that before. thanks as always ! it would seem that it is indeed a general eq for the whole compressor -
any interest in midi related stuff? I sometimes see the coolest midi devices that people cook up using arduino. and while im on the topic of arduino, can you use it to make synths too? edit: i hope this takes off, because this actually sounds really fun.

what is the built in EQ on a compressor used for?
Esperado replied to Esperado's topic in Music Composition & Production
yes there is, but i dont think that the eq works on the compressor without the sidechain. of course i could be mistaken. -
what is the built in EQ on a compressor used for?
Esperado replied to Esperado's topic in Music Composition & Production
I've heard of multipressors before, but never tried them. I'll check that out ! I found out the function of this particular eq though. It effects what frequencies are being effected by the side chain compressor but not the regular old compressor -
what is the built in EQ on a compressor used for?
Esperado replied to Esperado's topic in Music Composition & Production
ok so if you want the higher frequency content to be crispier without touching the low end, youd use the high pass filter at whatever frequency best fits the content? so then youre basically EQing the compressed content to your desired effect -
ok so I was looking at the compressor i use the other day and i noticed that i never used the EQ on it, and was curious what it is used for. heres a picture. While i know what the eq section does in theory, im not sure what use it has in the context of a compressor. Is the eq section used to only compress a specific frequency range, like say the low end of a bassline while leaving the higher frequencies intact? If not that, in what scenario would you use the eq section of this compressor? also, im sure there are better compressors out there, than the built in ableton one. if anyone knows of a better compressor, i wouldnt mind suggestions

Need a sample, synth, or effect? LOOK HERE!
Esperado replied to zircon's topic in Music Composition & Production
Ah, very nice! and a good price point too! As for the wailing sounds, i wasnt exactly looking for the more aggressive sounds but learning to make those sounds could still be quite useful to my project. i meant more ghost wailing kinds of sounds though. -
Need a sample, synth, or effect? LOOK HERE!
Esperado replied to zircon's topic in Music Composition & Production
I' m looking for two things. First is there a synth ( or sound design tutorial) that would work well for droning, or wailing sounds. I need it for a concept I have of an afterlife/underworld themed set of songs. A sample pack would work also but not quite as well. Next, What is a good library/pack of world or just unusual percussion samples? I would prefer packs that let you just use the audio files rather than using kontakt ( i dont have it). Maschine is an option as ive been considering one for quite a long time anyways, so feedback on those would be useful if youve used the library before. -
that looks pretty good! you should do comissions for people, or covers for fantasy novels, or both.

I have a huge backlog, since i never really beat games. but some notable ones would be: 1. FF8 , after a summer of playing, i got to the end of disc 3 before my copy of the game kept freezing on one cutscene which then rendered it impossible to ever beat. 2. Fjnal Fantasy Dissidia has the most impossible difficulty near the end of the game. 3. Crusaders of Might and Magic has a really stupid puzzle at the final boss that took 7 years for me to figure out because at no point in the game is it ever hinted at how youre supposed to finish the battle. i did beat it, but i played through the game maybe 6 times before finishing it once, so its worth mentioning.

interesting share! i had never heard of this before, but its pretty neat.

I was gonna make an arrow to the knee joke but then I found this! Happy birthday !

Haha I second that! I for sure thought it would get extended. Whoops
