If only this was a PRC round. I could make that Aladdin track into a Klezmer Club remix.

Honestly the most cost effective way to do this would be to get a midi keyboard and turn it away from your computer.  MIDI keyboards would be a lot cheaper and you would get more experience learning to use the samples/synths you have.

I had one of these last me around 12 years.  If you can find a used one it would be well worth it though it does use the old fashioned 6 pronged midi in/out cables and no USB compatibility.

I now use one of these cheapos.

Which i'm not overly fond of because of how the keys feel.  Unweighted keys never feel....real...

Another option is to get a simple Casio that you can use for practicing away from your computer for $100 and save the rest for your studio.

Just to go off on a tangent, the best way to learn music is to play music.  Sitting in front of a keyboard practicing sheet music for hours on end is how I and many others learned back in the day and frankly it's a really outdated way to learn music.  I emphasize MIDI keyboards because some of the best musical experience you can get is from loading up the music you already like on your HDD and playing along with it, figuring out the chords and melodies by ear.  Do it enough and you'll recognize patterns you can use in your music which is the real key to actually learning anything.  Learning to read sheet music does help some when you learn to read music vertically but it's not 100% necessary.  It's important to remember that when music went digital people who learned music "the old ways" all had their legs kicked out from under them. Finding your own way of learning whats out there with the combination of resources available is all part of the fun of learning music today.

Had a great time competing this year and was glad to see my remixes consistently perform better then they have in past compos.  Over the course of the competition I found a few more EQ cuts I like and some different ways of parallel processing that i haven't tried before.

Special thanks to Esperado and LadyWildfire who were up for joining me in this thing at the last second and gave some great feedback each week to help push the remixes forward.

i personally would say go for Logic Pro, it's 200 for the full version (last I checked) and since you've got a MacBook it will run like a dream. Also there's reaper which a few people around here swear by and its 50$ for the full version.

Mirroring the sentiment that this was a good experience all around. I had a similar experience to wildfire. I learned a lot about improving workflow and arranging techniques. Definitely going to polish my final round mix up. Is anyone thinking of mashing more than one of their mixes into one?

But really ive just been taking loads of pictures, Getting sucked into the Souls games, trying to straighten my life out (is that even a thing?) and putting game music on the back burner. If im being honest, i also got pretty discouraged by my lack of skill and inability to follow project deadlines so i left for a while out of shame. But, sometimes you just cant walk away, and the community just has so many wonderful people in it. Plus theres all the music, compos and the magfest festivities.

I come and go at times.  I was working a lot earlier this year, and had a pretty busy summer, but I'm posting a bit more here and working on more music again.  Notably in the SFRG thinger, but I'm looking to finish up all my project commitments in the near future and work on some more original stuff to release.

There's this song Alchemy, that I like. But at 1:37 the vocal melody does something that sounds unique to me. I'd like to use it one day (I can always notate it by ear), but the thing is, I want to know what's going from a music theory standpoint.

Like what is he doing to make it sound like that. Is it going through a slight key change, is he hitting an accidental, is the melody clashing with the key. Things like that.

I just know I'm hearing something there, and I can't pick it out really. But I like it, sounds, unique to me.

Went shooting in Salt Lake City this weekend, with some friends. I managed to come back with some good stuff.

This one I make into a triptych measuring about 27in x 36in. I think I can market it pretty easily in this area.

I liked the accessibility of DS2, I saw it as an improvement over DS1. I generally roll my eyes at hardcore culture, and when people think that something being hard to latch onto or just really hard is somehow a strength of said thing (probably an empowerment attitude from justifying their interests). This isn't directed at you, Moseph, but rather I do encounter many people on forums who treat the game design flaws as things you're supposed to get used to, or as they say "get good".

That being said, the fast-travel concern I think is valid. In DS1, the multiple areas were masterfully connected, and it was really apparent on my second playthrough. Being able to bypass Blight Town through the Valley of Drakes was a real treat. I was able to ring the two bells within an hour of each other. In general, the entire game world FEELS like one big area, and it's even better when you discover a new area, have the text pop up that says the name, and it turns out to be somewhere you've already been.

In DS2, everything just sort of branches out in separate directions, without much coherency between them. Every level in DS2 is its own isolated rabbit hole, and to get back to the hub? Warp to Majula. Very different from DS1, and I personally prefer DS1's handling of navigation better (lots of manual shortcut rewards).

This is actually a pretty amusing idea. You choose a preset and have no idea that it sounds like a dying whale, but you write a whole mellow piece thinking that it sounds like a synthesized flute lead.

The fact that this movie has people so fired up in so many directions says it's a good movie in my opinion. Whether intentional or not, the movie has people thinking deeper into things, which is unusual for an action flick.
Also does anyone know the backstory of the facial chroming ?

Each time I've starred my novice never finished so Id rather be a novice to get in on some action. I do however realize the need for stars is greater, so I'll sign up as a star if it ends up being Necissary.
