  1. The whole soundscape in the first minute or so sets the mood perfectly for this track, it's the kind of track that if you fell asleep with this on it would follow you into your dream and stick around for the whole NiGHT (see what I did there? ) The only thing I don't like about this track is glitched drums at around 02:45 onwards; that kinda took me out of the semi-daze I was in while listening to this. Only a minor nitpick for me though. The ending was abrupt but did fit with the 'narrative' that had been built up throughout (falling asleep - dreaming - waking up - AWAKE!). [4.5/5]
  2. Amazing guitar work right from the start, the shift from straight-up metal to acoustic was unexpected but extremely well done. You don't often hear electric solo's over acoustic backing but this works very, very well. When the metal does come back it doesn't kick the door in and destroy your house; instead it gradually insinuates itself into your living-room, drinking tea and commenting on the weather before melting your face off with some superbly executed shreddage. I may have lost my thread a little here... Anyway, this is balls to the wall awesome and will be finding a home on my MP3 player. [6/5]
  3. Oh that is a sexy beat right from start. The gif that Txai posted above fits this perfectly There's literally nothing to fault here, everything fits together perfectly and makes for an amazingly cosmic astral space trip. To infinity and beyond! [5/5]
  4. Thanks for coinciding it with my lunch break, very accommodating of you
  5. Hey Bunda; are we actually in the voting period now are will there be another extension?
  6. I totally meant to post this up here when it happened back in November but somehow completely forgot. *facepalm* In a nutshell; the mad metal genius that is Devin Townsend decided to livestream the creation of a brand-new song and document his creative process. To add to the fun he also agreed to limit himself to a 2 hour time period. Madness! I'm posting it here because there's every possibility that a lot of people on the site may well get a lot out of this, production-wise. The video itself is 4 hours long (most of the beginning is dead-air) so here's some timestamps (lifted straight from the description on the YT page, I take no credit for any of this upload!) 6:20 Introduction of stream team 1:46:10 Pre-production 1:54:34 Drums 2:07:40 Guitar 2:38:06 Piano 2:40:20 Acoustic guitar / 12 string with professional mic setup demonstration 2:46:44 Bass 2:58:42 Synth 3:00:38 War with the keyboard connection begins 3:01:32 Vocals: clean 3:26:46 Vocals: 2nd verse, dat vibrato 3:28:41 Vocals: screams, everyone gathers for the finale 3:32:55 More Geetars 3:35:18 Piano patch and quick mix 3:36:36 "Stars With No Click You Dick" premiere 3:41:35 Post session interview 4:00:23 Life Lesson Also; if you're not familiar with Devin Townsend's work; educate yoself!
  7. YES! Then we can all do WWE-style promo's before each round to psych-out our opponents!
  8. Labyrinth is amazing and always seems to get missed out when people discuss his work, both as a film and as a soundtrack. The man was legendary in his ability to reinvent himself with almost every album; if you look at his catalogue there's pretty much something for everybody who has any interest in music! RIP Mr Bowie, off to see the Star-Man waiting in the sky.
  9. Submitted! But of course having listened back to it after doing so I've noticed loads of things that need changing and I have no tiiiiiiiiiime!
  10. Oh I dig this so hard! As with some of the other guys here I went back and listened to the original; it's an awesome track but it seriously isn't a patch on this remix. Your definitely-not-dubstep wubwub is sublime (dublime!) and the beat is as smooth as lubed-up silk. Your usage of the vocal samples works a lot better in your track than the original and I love the constantly evolving arrangement. Excellent work! [5/5]
  11. Incorrect, wrong, false. Batman: The Animated Series that came before Batman Beyond is the best Batman thing ever. Though Beyond is super awesome amazing as well.
  12. *EDIT* Just seen that I should have PM'd Odai instead. My bad!
  13. Wow! Thanks for kinds words guys, much appreciated! I honestly thought Kat was going to win this one (no offence meant to Chalis; you're definitely getting a lot better!) Next rounds source has been submitted!
  14. Same here. I was super slack when it came to PRC's last year and and want to get much more involved in this season!
  15. I'm really not getting along with this track though I should have something to submit, even if it's just a WIP (again!).
  16. There's nothing I can really fault about this! The guitars are rich and biting, the drums are perfectly programmed and sound excellent and the synth doesn't get in the way of the main guitar melodies and simply helps to add to the rich tapestry of awesome. Excellent work as always, DusK!
  17. I'm not normally one for glitch style percussion mixed with 'live' instruments but the subtle use of it in this track works very well. As Chernabogue mentioned above the mix of ethnic instrumentation and electro is a strange one but in this case it all meshes nicely. The only part that didn't really work for me was the synth at around 01:20. It work very well all throughout the track but at that particular point it just stands out a little too much and get's a bit distracting. Other than that minor quibble though I really like this, very chilled and relaxing. Nice work!
  18. I didn't get to hear the first version of this so I'll comment solely on this version (it might be worth keeping all versions of your mix listed in the first post so others can compare any changes that have been made). I love the beat and bassline; very smooth and flowing. The strings you've used to pad out the soundscape work very well and add some much needed body to the mix. The leads however sound very MIDI-ish and don't mesh very well with the rest of the track. The flute that comes in at 02:16 sounds very thin (as jnWake mentioned above) and to be honest I don't think it has much of a place in this mix at all. Personally I'd experiment with different leads and find something to replace the flute, maybe some reverbed keys or maybe even something arpeggio'd to change up the notes a little. This track definitely has potential based on the rhythm section and strings, just need something to apply to the lead sections.
  19. First up, as far I can tell this seems to be a MIDI rip with a sound upgrade. While I commend you on the attention you've put into the instrumentation (each section sounds very rich and nicely balanced) there isn't much else that can be said other than that. A good technical exercise I guess? There's a fair amount that goes into this source that, especially using the instrumentation that you've showcased here, could be re-arranged into something equally epic or beautiful (or both). Of course if what you were going for is a straight MIDI rip then you've done an excellent job regardless
  20. I really really like this. I love your guitar tone mixed with the (what I'm assuming is an) accordion. The comments about panning are spot on, but as Sh0rtCircuit said don't pan all the way in both directions; that can make the 'centre' of the track feel empty. Maybe start at 20% each way and adjust as necessary. My only real gripe with this track is that it's too short! Moar pls!
  21. Echoing both sentiments above; this is an excellent arrangement that's in serious need of some EQ love. I like the radio chatter and aircraft samples used at the intro and towards the end. The timpani hits used from 03:00 onwards sound a little out of place to me, though they may sound better when the track is mixed properly; at the moment they seem to sit on top of everything else without being part of complete soundscape. Overall though I really like this remix! All the elements are there; they just need to all work together instead of fighting against each other.
  22. I'll get something in, worry not!
