  1. I didn't get to hear the first version of this so I'll comment solely on this version (it might be worth keeping all versions of your mix listed in the first post so others can compare any changes that have been made). I love the beat and bassline; very smooth and flowing. The strings you've used to pad out the soundscape work very well and add some much needed body to the mix. The leads however sound very MIDI-ish and don't mesh very well with the rest of the track. The flute that comes in at 02:16 sounds very thin (as jnWake mentioned above) and to be honest I don't think it has much of a place in this mix at all. Personally I'd experiment with different leads and find something to replace the flute, maybe some reverbed keys or maybe even something arpeggio'd to change up the notes a little. This track definitely has potential based on the rhythm section and strings, just need something to apply to the lead sections.
  2. First up, as far I can tell this seems to be a MIDI rip with a sound upgrade. While I commend you on the attention you've put into the instrumentation (each section sounds very rich and nicely balanced) there isn't much else that can be said other than that. A good technical exercise I guess? There's a fair amount that goes into this source that, especially using the instrumentation that you've showcased here, could be re-arranged into something equally epic or beautiful (or both). Of course if what you were going for is a straight MIDI rip then you've done an excellent job regardless
  3. I really really like this. I love your guitar tone mixed with the (what I'm assuming is an) accordion. The comments about panning are spot on, but as Sh0rtCircuit said don't pan all the way in both directions; that can make the 'centre' of the track feel empty. Maybe start at 20% each way and adjust as necessary. My only real gripe with this track is that it's too short! Moar pls!
  4. Echoing both sentiments above; this is an excellent arrangement that's in serious need of some EQ love. I like the radio chatter and aircraft samples used at the intro and towards the end. The timpani hits used from 03:00 onwards sound a little out of place to me, though they may sound better when the track is mixed properly; at the moment they seem to sit on top of everything else without being part of complete soundscape. Overall though I really like this remix! All the elements are there; they just need to all work together instead of fighting against each other.
  5. I'll get something in, worry not!
  6. Voted! Bloody hellfire the calibre was high with these entries, my top 3 must have changed at least 5 times while I was voting! Nice work everybody!
  7. Submitted but called my track Basment Party instead of Basement Party! Durp! Sorry to hear you're having problems, Mike! EDIT: Also forgot to mention that the source for my track is Bower's Domain - Koopa's Road from Super Mario 64!
  8. Wrong part of the forum dude; this should probably be posted in the Workshop. I'm sure a Mod will be along shortly to move the thread for you. With regards to the track: firstly; get whichever family member who made this to sign up to the site and continue making mixes! Secondly; this is a pretty awesome remix! I'm not familiar with the source (if you could include that in your opening post that would cool!) so I don't know how much of this has been 'remixed' as such, however I am digging the track itself. Chill and funky are definitely the right words to describe it and the use of FX from the game works quite well. I like the kind of stutter effect that starts at 0:29 (there's probably a correct term for it but I don't know what it is!) Overall I really like this! Get your family member to sign up!!
  9. A nice driving beat right from the start with eerie, ethereal pads creating a nice atmosphere while the main melody creeps in from the background. Strings add another layer of atmosphere before an excellent semi-breakdown in which the atmosphere continues to grow. The leads fit this track perfectly and the bass sits nicely in the back without being too OTT. Definitely a late-night club track.
  10. I like the energy going on here, however I'm not a fan of the bit-crushing staticy thing that starts at the beginning and seems to have a presence all through the rest of the track. It's interesting to hear swing drums mixed with electronic elements, they work surprisingly well together. The guitar work on the latter half of the track is cool; adds a nice extra layer instead of simply repeating the first half again. Very nice overall.
  11. Nice crunchy saw to open, with an interesting beat accompanying it making this a stand-out track already. I like the semi-laidback energy of this track; it keeps the mood quite chill while making sure the groove never fades out. The lead has an excellent tone; not too bright but clear enough to make it stand out. Overall a surprisingly relaxing mix.
  12. the intro for this track is awesome, feels exactly like a movie scene where the main character is approaching the ring getting ready for the main event. The beats in this track are perfect and the bass that accompanies it is perfect. The leads never get dull or repetitive due to overuse and the overall energy of the track is right up there on the scale. Love the fake-out break-down around halfway through; it takes you down then builds you right back up again. Excellent track!
  13. Oh that bass in the intro, groovy doesn't begin to describe it. The initial flute(?) part 00:35 was a little high on the register but calmed down nicely later on in the track. The percussion is perfect and the funky guitar licks meld seamlessly with the mix overall. I like the very sparse usage of FX from the game itself and the outro uses those parts nicely. Very subtle organ usage in there well which is nice.
  14. Ska! I love me some ska, makes me do some incredibly embarrassing dad-dancing (according to my wife at least). This is track is very well done, though the sudden appearance of the fuzzy rhythm guitar at 01:02 was a tiny bit jarring. Everything is full of energy, as it should be with any ska tune and the mix itself is very well produced with the brass popping at all the right moments and keys coming through nicely. Excellent work!
  15. Definitely got the Latin fusion thing going on here, makes me want to boogie! (Disclaimer: I can't boogie). Overall it's a little on the quiet side for me, though that may just be a sign of the time period this is from. The instrumentation all 'round is superb and on this particular track I quite like that it jumps around a fair bit as it somehow manages to keep the same theme going throughout.
  16. Play that funky music, white boy (or other ethnicity of your choice)! That bass! That organ! That usage of ride cymbal! Oh my! However; this is 2 tracks slapped together which have nothing to do with each other. I like funk, I love ska, hell I'm sure I'd like funky ska if ever I heard some, but these are 2 sources with totally different styles and they don't really belong together. Each is excellent in it's own but they deserve their own tracks and submissions.
  17. Love the Iron Maiden-esque drum track on this (not as heavy I know, but it still has that 'gallop' that Maiden implements so well). The guitar is sublime, pure and simple. The bass keeps the rhythm going nicely and pads add some lovely textures. The solo's remind me a lot of Steve Vai and Joe Satriani and I can't heap a higher praise on this guy than that
  18. Nothing says 'mellow' like waves crashing on a beach. Unless of course those waves are 20 feet high and you're stood on said beach... Anyway, this is a much more successful meshing of live guitars and programmed drums than prosax's previous effort on Half-Life. The bass in this one is given a lot more love and compliments the clean guitar lead nicely. The sudden voice sample in the middle made me jump a little and made me a bit less mellow, which is a shame. Overall though this is lovely track that still hold up well today.
  19. Too short! It reminds me a lot of 'A Monday' by Devin Townsend Project (mind you, considering that this track predates that by almost a decade I guess I should do that the other way around). Very little to say about this other than it's great and I wish it was longer.
  20. Nice intro, very different from what we've heard from prosax before. Then suddenly there's a dance beat! The suddenly there's live guitars! I'm not overly sold on this one to be honest, it's a bit all over the place with regards to song structure and the guitar doesn't really mesh too well with the rest of the track. However it is nice to see that the remixer is willing to try new things!
  21. Straight off I am not a fan of that organ sound. I know it's a staple of the type of rock the remixer was going for with this but I found it really distracting when ever it was brought to the front of the mix. The guitar work is as excellent as the previous tracks from prozax but I found the lead to be a little stiff at times. The transition between the first and second sources is fine from my point of view, however you simply can't fade out completely 2/3 of a way through a song to then fade back with a completely different song! AND THEN add another completely different tune at the end! Come on!
  22. Wow, this is some excellent 70's rock. Love the thick fuzzy rhythm guitar mixed with the bright and clear lead. Even the drums are very 70's with some nice ride usage! The production works fantastically with the vide the remixer was going for as well. The twin-guitar trade-off at 01:12 was unexpected but was very well executed.
  23. I love this comment, it fits this track perfectly! Everything is all mellow and chilled out, then the super fuzzy guitar tone comes and it keeps with the overall theme and suddenly BOOM! Shreddage! The musicianship is excellent and the production is great, however I'm not a fan of the fade out...
  24. Love the clean guitar intro, and the FX from the game itself leading into the main track is a nice touch. Excellent guitar work, but as has been mentioned above the low quality detracts from the mix a bit. It really does sound like a soft rock track from the 70's; maybe something by The Eagles or Lynyrd Skynyrd. But, as has also been mentioned above, just as it starts to really get going it stops! Such as shame
  25. A nice interpretation of the Ice Cap theme in the intro leading into some nice arpeggio background compliments. The pad used throughout sounds very similar to the source material with helps keep the vibe from the original going. The bass-line is lifted directly from the source and meshes very well with the overall track. Production is very good, however the drum track is literally the same loop repeated throughout. One of this remixers better submissions.
