  1. loved the effects. lol'd at the cookie monster shirt. song was great.
  2. nothing shameful about it. plus that picture made me lol the sound is too loud though (which is easier to fix than it being too quiet). It's your song, but i would reduce the polyphony a little and maybe change the instrument somehow. It definitely has a unique flavor...
  3. Hero Theme: Very good theme but overall muddy mix. Needs EQ work. There should be another note after 0:35. Also kind of repetitive. Town theme: In aif format, didn't download Title Screen: Beautiful, started sad at first but became more energetic. Piano was muffled though and overall it was muddy. Boss Battle: Really good and crisp, until the 2nd drum part, which muddied it up, maybe add compression to the drums. Add eq to synth too. (The goal of a mix is to have it sound good on all playback devices, so telling us to wear a certain kind of headset isn't going to fly
  4. I just look at the titles, and hopefully, based on the name of the preset it will give me an idea of what the sound will be. So I basically pick which names sound interesting, and go from there. Once I hear the sound, then I start to plan the song out.
  5. I was watching a documentary one day and someone said the opposite, that you should build the sounds first then the song. This works for me, and you always will get a song that matches the sounds quite nicely, without having to force them into the song, but there is one problem with this. You have to wait till you finish choosing your sounds to think of the song, so if you already thought of the song beforehand it's too late.
  6. the cheese way is to download a music analyzer which will tell you the chords.
  7. I don't really know why people put their stuff on After Touch beats, because of the anti-copyright label, but that isn't too bad of a beat.
  8. Thanks for the replies guys. I'm quoting some stuff I would like to clear up: What do you mean by tuned? Does it matter what key drums are in (C vs. D) or if they are off-tune? Also, what kind of synth percussion is it? Are you talking about that weird techno drum that reminds me of the CMP-150 in Perfect Dark? Would I make it look something like this: _ _ - - " " ?Also it sounds like the put some effect on some of the drums in the song...if I were to describe it in words, its like they raised the pitch, but also stretched out the sound duration. The sound itself sounds like a slice of rubber being poked in the center, or something submerging into a pool of water (not splashing, submerging.) It would be easier if there were no background noise though.
  9. I have a problem that whenever I don't include drums or bassline at the start, it's really hard for me to put them in later, especially bass. Sometimes I have songs with no bass at all lol.
  10. How do I make it not suck? I don't really know that much music theory, except by ear. All I know is that you should change the drums from time to time, especially during emotional changes throughout the song (slow them down to add impact, etc.) I'm also worried about the quality...no matter what samples I get or how much reverb and flanger I put on them they still don't sound crystally; they just sound reverb-y and flanger-y. example of good drums:
  11. Well the composition is good, but the mix is pretty muddy, some of the instruments don't stand out like they should. Also, I heard some percussion in the non-percussion mix, and it didn't sound too bad.
  12. Something sounds wrong with the drums. The mix could be longer but I didn't want to mess with the automations. The hard part is that the "cool groove" synth is a fixed chord so I have to build the song around it and I think it's a seventh chord but with my limited knowledge I'm not sure. Anyway rip it apart folks: http://www.fileden.com/files/2010/4/3/2815300//greenhillworld_long_3.mp3
  13. Guitars sound good but seem to missing some volume and in the lower range. Greenhouse seems really compressed.
  14. Um...Industrial Ruins is good, but I think the melody could use a better sequence of notes, at first it sounds all dark and eerie, then it turns into a modern anti-terrorist action music movie score, then it turns into just blazeh...just look at a picture or video of what your music is based on and you should get the melody right...right now the melody seems placeholder... Reploid Deployment isn't bad, but is in dire need of mastering. Also the main melody's notes could be spaced apart (vertically) greater to create more depth. A global pitch change in the middle might be interesting to hear as well.
  15. excellent music, i honestly have no idea how it is dubstep though, also the transitions need more emotion, also some of the melodies need to be stretched out and whats the word for it (append? guitar solo'd) in order for the emotions to sink in
  16. Near 0:27 I would have like to hear the bass riff repeated before it changed into the other thing...good sounds you have though. reminds me of a facility with orange and gray concrete and metal on some planet.
  17. "Prepare"'s timing on some of the notes is either off, or a note is repeated too many times. "Ectoplasm" was overly monotonous and monotone. You probably don't want to hear my comments on Alien Cheer, lol... sorry i am overly negative, but i am only trying to provide some critic.
  18. easy on the ears, kind of a mansiony sound to it.
  19. way too repetitive...it is good but the song needs to form a melody of some sort, choruses etc
  20. If you use the same bassline, is that plaguarism? Oh and I use a PC51D soundfont for my Pani.
  21. Great start, nothing really should be changed, but some stuff should be added, its a little too ambient and spacey. Not too much should be added though.
