Looks AWESOME. I'm very excited to see what they've done with this.
The music for the trailer seems appropriately creepy and tense - hopefully this is an indication of the kind of music in the actual show. I wonder if we will hear any of the CVIII soundtrack remixed in this - it would be a shame if we didn't hear Beginning somewhere in there, being Trevor's theme and all.
I'm not sure why everyone is disappointed with the anime style. What's wrong with it? Forgive my lack of terminology, but it seems like they went with a Ninja Scroll-esque approach, which doesn't seem wrong to me... were we expecting uber-CG or something?

The support means a whole lot man :'D  Never thought I'd be here just 5.5 short years after joining the forums!  Goes without saying, but HUGE shout outs to the community for fostering my musical growth during some very formative years.  Wouldn't be where I am without y'all <3
Thanks!  And fair enough, though if you're conflating AW with Fire Emblem, I think that's a bit of a mistake.  The two play really differently from a strategic perspective - I personally am not a big fan of FE (RPG elements take out a lot of the strategy), but I LOVE Advance Wars.  I haven't played a game that captures its take on the tactical genre since.. the last AW game, which came out almost a decade ago now (not to mention Days of Ruin was way different from the rest), so I'm just as excited to play the game as I am to write for it

    Double-post!

I don't mean to get people's hopes up unnecessarily, but I just want to mention that folks have recently been bugging Retro Studios staff on Twitter what they're currently working on.
They keep replying with pictures of prime rib.

That's literally nearly the opposite experience with the Phazon Mines.  I chose the wrong direction to explore that area at least 3 times, twice involving the large lava/ironworks room at the very bottom, and climbing back up out of that room takes forever.  Part of that was due to my not knowing that the X-Ray Visor not only let you look through some walls, but revealed invisible platforms, and the quick "back door" route into the Phazon Mines from the surface requires using one of those.
I found the Plasma Beam pretty quickly, but I actually got the Grapple Beam extremely late--not only did I not suss out the correct direction to look for it in, but I accidentally found a skip, not realizing it was a skip because it was just a very difficult jump not unlike all the other difficult jumps, that let me get much further without the Grapple Beam than I was supposed to.
I found about half of the artifacts naturally, but my point isn't that they were hard to find, it's that they were meaningless MacGuffins, not actual upgrades like everything else in earlier Metroid games (other than the bosses--of which, in Super Metroid, only one of which wasn't required just to proceed anyway).  Meanwhile, the actual upgrades were hidden extremely well--I never did find the missile upgrades for Wave or Ice, and finished the game at 81%.  Plus, in other Metroid games, a new upgrade would let you enter new areas if you backtracked, although sometimes those areas were small; to get the artifacts, often you could get all the way up to them but not actually collect them without the right upgrade (e.g. one that required Plasma Beam in Phendrana).  Plus, the game just wouldn't let you scan all the artifact hints at the beginning--there were a few I could have collected the first time though if I'd had the hints, but no.
Certainly 3D platforming is harder to get right than 2D, and DmC is a great example (one of its major problems was also in visibility, with its terrible camera angles, and I still personally found it easier than Metroid Prime).  But while lots of 3D platformers do get it right, very few first-person games have even arguably decent platforming.

Sup OCR! Journey to the Centre of the World is my second full length original album, and is available for download at Bandcamp! Journey to the Centre of the World is a 10 track album, which i've been working on for the past 2-3 years. The album is a big fat 80's inspired Chiptune/Rock fusion. It has authentic chiptunes, less authentic chiptunes, and big fat 80s production with operatic singing and crazy synth/guitar solos! And it's FREE!!!
    https://willrock1.bandcamp.com/album/journey-to-the-centre-of-the-world

Track 1 features the Vocal Talents of Valentino Francavilla (Best known as the vocalist of ShockFront) and the famitracker chops of @DaMonz and the album also features a Remix by OCRs @DDRKirby(ISQ)!
You can download it on Bandcamp, or on overclocked records for the small price of free, but every donation helps me support myself and continue to make great music! If you end up enjoying the music, please consider paying what you think is a fair price for the download
Thanks guys! REALLY hope you enjoy this one, a lot of effort went into it!

Many film and game scores just sound the same these days, especially in action genres.  The Zimmer Remote Control style has become so trendy that it has permeated basically everything, and the thought process seems to be that simply adding pounding percussion and power anthem styled themes automatically makes something good.  Many of the newer composers are products of this mentality.  And it's fine in context and works well in certain titles, but there should not be a "default sound" for any spectrum of media.
Basically, it's seems like many modern soundtracks are just back-to-back cues for action movie trailers.  It's become the new four-chord pop music phenomenon.
Sometimes it feels like creativity across the board is becoming bottlenecked, with re-hashed writing and endless reboots, visual effects and cinematography is almost indistinguishable among whatever summer tentpole films are playing, and you can basically inter-change all of their soundtracks and not really tell much of a difference.  Art in general is becoming homogenized for the sake of studios being able to mass-produce titles and franchises on auto pilot.  It's almost shocking when something truly unique is released these days... now I am laughing at the irony of the Blair Witch reboot trailer playing as I write this.

Been a whiiiiile since I posted in the WIP forums, how's everyone been?

I ended up getting stumped on an orchestral remix commission and took some time to transcribe a tune from FFT (with probably more on the way) to help get me past the blockage and stay productive.  I added a bit of light interpretation in the form of a pizzicato double bass section for some low end support and some choir chords for added harmonic coloration, based off of the implied harmonies in the source.  I included a MIDI download in the description on soundcloud as well as some additional notes for anyone interested.  This was mostly for my personal studies (and for fun), but I figured someone might enjoy it anyway

I'll quote music theory professor Frank Lehman here, who after noting that the YT channel this comes from is excellent, notes:

"...they bizarrely gloss over the most glaring issue with these franchises -- the lack of firmly defined or hummable themes. (Exceptions, IMHO, w/ Capt. America leitmotif and maybe the Avengers theme--not accidentally both from Silvestri). And they further claim that the music is not evoking an emotional response, when that's pretty much all it's doing: pure affect"
That pretty much sums up my thoughts.  Get Silvestri to do more, haha

Well you must have liked the Torvus Bog music. Your rendition torvus clockwork was the first remix I listened to that I would be completely fine with if it replaced the original track. Unless you did the track because you didn't like it.
I agree though. Don't skip Echoes. I would have to say the first is my favourite out of the trilogy. Echoes and corruption both have good points and bad points. Echoes had annoying ammo and big difficulty spikes at points (at least for me). But a great, if somewhat dark atmosphere. Corruption had too many cut-scenes when navigating, and I feel the supercharge function was used to little.(Although, that is probably a realistic approach.) But it had a good balance between leaving you alone in the world, and interacting with the GF.

I don't think that the Shinespark tricks required in AM2R are more difficult than those required in Fusion and Zero Mission for 100%, fwiw.  And though I like the extension of Metroid 1 that Zero Mission offers, I will say that I would have been livid if it were inserted into Metroid 1 proper instead of being placed after, if that makes sense.
As for Metroid Prime: Though you may not be comfortable with first-person movement as much, the reason it's so well-regarded is because it absolutely has the best platforming physics (e.g. requiring jumping) of any first-person shooter ever.  Consider the platforming sections in Turok: Dinosaur Hunter for N64 or some other game, and it's a whole new world.  In 2002, the graphics were also out-of-this-world good, which doesn't hurt at all (seeing accurate reflections, including Samus' own face in the right lighting, was a new thing back then).  The Morph Ball sections are about as good as you can possibly get in 3D as well.
Not saying you have to like it or anything (Newt doesn't particularly care for them either, and he loves 2D platformers), but I'll say that there will probably never be a _better_ conversion of the franchise to 3D than the first Prime game.

Hey guys. It's been a long time! I haven't submitted new remixes here in what feels like ages, however I've still been working on things. One of which I'd like to announce here. I've been developing a retro arcade game called Hive Bomber. It's a one-man project so it involved a lot more than music writing from me. It will be my 2nd released game (whether it makes it through Steam Greenlight or not) and I'm hoping it will appeal to the people who fondly remember the early 80s arcade games as I do.
    A brief description:
The gameplay is simple. You control the Hive Bomber and assault enemy bee hives. Each hive has 4 randomly placed honey "cores". If you get all four, the hive self destructs. However, even numbered hives contain a randomly hidden queen which must be destroyed as well. Queens possess an impervious energy shield which is powered by the honey cores, so optimal gameplay will involve getting the honey before releasing the queen. Other bees work together to defend the hive from it's attacker. Workers repair the damaged hex cells. Defenders protect the hive and allies with their rechargeable bubble shield. Others fend off the Hive Bomber utilizing various attack behaviors.
The Hive Bomber has a rainbow of forms it can take, each one represented as a powerup. You can have up to 2 forms that you can switch from at any one time. Each one has it's own weapon attributes and unique special ability. All forms can teleport to the opposite side of the hive if they have at least 1 teleport energy unit.

Checkout the trailer and screen shots, and if it looks like something you'd like to play, be sure to vote.
The game's not 100% complete yet so any feedback/suggestions would be appreciated.
