  3. wait what i thought it was a joke
  4. National Park is probably my favorite Pokemon source. I love this mix I love you marry me bby pls
  5. DEM REVIEWZ SON: Xarnax42: violin sounds a bit thin/quiet. Nice country atmosphere. sometimes the vocals seem like a fraction of a second off. Biggest thing i wanted is a bit bigger/more filled out instrumental section. Dem vocals tho <3 Theory of N: lold at the title. Structure here is nice, as is instrumentation. source usage is well done too. You have an ear/mind for jazz writing that shines out here (as well as your other tracks, but i'm only writing about this one). SuperiorX: I dunno when you became GrooveLord 9000 but I love it. Instrumentation and atmosphere is awesome. The dirtier bass threw me a loop for a second but on multiple listens i dig it. Only complaint is that the reverse cymbal you use seems a bit odd - it might be the sample or it could use a little boost in the highs/cut in the mid-highs. Sterling Ortiz: things need some more humanization here. flute is loud when it comes in. mindwanderer already addressed the timpani/tuned perc thing. Soundscape is a bit bare as well. You're improving though, so that's good. Shrack: Orchestration is nice here, and meshes well with the dnb drums. Progression from ideas keeps things interesting without losing continuity in the piece. Trumpet near the end sounds a bit weird, and the end is a tad sudden. ParahSalin: you told me to ignore this but TOO BAD MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. In all seriousness, there are still some odd harmony/key things happening but it's less of an issue than before, so nice work and keep improving. Orion: Holy shit dude. this is long. like, so long i might not be able to make it through it all in this review. Let me just hit some points. make sure that with a mix this long that you really vary up energy and make your piece as dynamic as possible in order to maintain interest. Your piece does well at not repeating too much, but things keep a fairly constant energy that loses my interest at times. Some odd harmonies in places. I dig the chip aesthetic. I'm also legitimately interested in how you managed to pull this off in a week. I'm scrambling to get 3 minutes in! Obtuse: nice intro, and the structure is pretty nice. pads cover up the melody. things get a little repetitive after a bit. soundscape is bare during the bass solo. MindWanderer: I'd recognize that Kontact sax sample anywhere structure and source usage is nice, but sounds need more humanization, and the soundscape seems a tad bare. Drums need moar punch and variance. Love that part at 2:16. Jakesnake: Things keep a subdued groove that i dig. Drums carry a lot of energy here. neat aesthetic and soundscape. love the source usage and the not-so-subtle nods to your teammates sources. Esperado: Nice improvement from last time man. soundscape could still use a bit of filling out. transition to the second section was a little weird, also some key issues there i think. Brandonion: love dat pianer. Sounds are nice, as are the harmonies. lyrics are purty as well.
  6. A lot of my original compositions lately have been trying to emulate the style of other musicians, so I've been wondering: what track of yours do you think best embodies your musical "style?" It can be a certain effect or sound you use, a composition quirk, or even how it's changed over time. It'll be interesting to see if other people agree with you or not! EDIT: Derp, I guess I should probably answer my own question. I think my ChipWin track really nails my style: chip aesthetic with a big focus on a (hopefully) catchy melody. Also I think about every single track I've done follows the structure of Energetic 1st section followed by relaxed B section.
  7. Sorry, that's entirely my fault. Grandma's theme is wrapping up (80% done I'd say), and I'm trying to fix up an old dragon roost remix I did but at this point it might be faster to make another remix of it. Again, sorry to be that guy. EDIT: forgot to mention that the reason Dragon Roost is going so slowly is because I lost a lot of data for it when my compy crashed back in May
  8. Shit, sorry that I forgot about reviews and voting; i'll post some reviews for both rounds soon EDIT: Silvernix: Soundscape is bare, but has elements of good structure that i like. Bass and drum pattern gets repetitive. Switch up into heat man was pretty neat. Some note issues in the later half. Trism: hats are a little hot, you might wanna tone down the higher frequencies. Guitar and strings need much more humanization to make things more dynamic. Arrangement has energy, slow changeup helps keep things interesting. GLL: Neat instrumentation here. Vocals give me an old school eurodance vibe that i dig. nice instrumental breakdowns between lyrics keep things interesting. Zach: Intro is nice, but doesn't really set up the rest of the song well. soundscape is bare. sounds unfinished. Sir_NutS: Nice synth atmosphere as always. Lyrics are well written. I dig the Splash woman usage in here. erectojimmy: Into builds well into a high energy piece. Dig the mmx guitars and the ridiculous riffage. Wish the whole track was a tad louder, but I can turn up my volume knob to fix that, so it's not really an issue anyway. wildfire: nice intro, i always dig delayed pianer. Like I said before, i'm not really a trance guy, but you always seem to change things up to keep it interesting. tempo change works well. there seems like an odd harmony happening at like 2:50. Not sure if i like the skipping on the outro. Cosmic Sounds: Nice orchestration. drums have some weird accents that i don't dig a times. wish the climaxes were a bit more energetic, but i'm not quite sure how to fix that, sorry. Gar: cool intro that maybe lingers a bit longer than i wanted. things hit a solid groove. piano sounds a bit weird eq wise at the part around 1:30. Wish there were some higher energy points or something to change up the flow a bit. Gario: High energy right off the bat. everything sounds well made. that chip lead eats my lunch and i fucking love it. dirty bass is dirty. Things change up to a more classic chip texture to keep things intreresting. I <3 it pls give me ur skillz bby kfanx drumj8: nice almost Latin groove here. soundscape is a bit bare. I'm a sucker for piano, and i love those parts. lead synth seems a bit vanilla. Drums are a bit weak and need more punch too. Phonetic Poophole: Nice Metroid Prime atmosphere in the beginning. Your specialty glitches work well as always. soundscape is a bit bare but you made this in like half a day so great jarb homestar Here's the lyrics to Killer Beets. I did all the vocals aside from the amazing solar man and strike man verses(which were Tuberz and Kuolema): REFRAIN Crowned , with a signature Sound , bringin enemies Down , until wily is Found, and bound Ground man, he don't mess Around man, - gonna take Disney Down man and give Wily a pound-in, he's Ground man VERSE 1 GROUND MAN The stor-y starts with a corporate decision Lord Wily and Disney in a gross acquisition I thought wily was evil, but now he seems second rate When put in perspective of this business magnate "Mega Man we're in trouble" the people are crying But it seems the blue bomber is just prone to dying He'll need some help, to turn things around Looks like Rockman is in need of some Ground. SOLAR MAN Yo, I'm Solar Man and I've got a Solar Plan to kick the living shit outta Mega Man, But hell the Doctor screwed us all around and now he's gotta answer to the solar, strike and ground. I've been charging up since the moon and hell I gotta say that was a rockin' tune but still, I'm gonna shoot my solar burst and you can bet your fuckin' ass it's gonna really fuckin' hurt. VERSE 2 STRIKE MAN Get your hands off my balls or get ready to scream I hit ya so fast that you'll be down on your knees Before you can say "please stop what you're doing to me Mr Strike I thought you'd never be a killin' for free" But now I got ya where I want and my arm is steady There's a hundred yards between us but you'd better be ready Cause it'll only take a hundredth of a second to end ya When I spit these rhymes in your direction GROUND MAN Rollin up on the beach, adrenaline in a rush We were chasin dr wily through the thick jungle brush Then we went skyward, up moliary's tower, The climb was tough, but we had Groundpowuh Suddenly we were cosmic, the chase took to space Things came to a head at Wily's moon base We had the man cornered when he clenched his fist And revealed his rather planetary twist BRIDGE: Stardroids appeared, we thought we were sunk But it didn't take long to turn them to junk well who's this little yellow punk? VERSE 3 ENKER Not punk, but Enker mate and my rhymes are comin at cha at a dizzyin rate I'm a mega man killer but ill guess you'll do cuz i'll stop you in a flash like i'm mega man 2 GROUND MAN: Stop me? HAH. You must be delirious but yer not backin down so it's time to get serious wily's the big fish, you're just a small fry but enough talk, it's time to die.
  9. YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS Pokemon mixes ftw Chiptuney Pokemon Remixes? It's like my dream album Butt seriously, great work. Every track is stellar and the album idea is gold. Rock on dudes
  10. I had a musical background since I was 11, but I only started composing for about a year and a half. Experience helps and a lot of people here have it, but having an ear for that kind of thing helps loads.
  11. The Robutt Masters are spittin it y'all Pretty much this
  12. I'm interested, but don't have time to commit to this, so I'm willing to collab with someone if the want. I do the funk synths a boobity bop
  13. Yeah I didn't notice any clipping. I think it's a bitcrushing effect.
  14. Reviews: Zerotoherothemaster: whoa, nice improvement from last time. source shift is still a little awkward, but not nearly as bad. nice full soundscape. eaus: cool ethnic sounds in the beginning. square (maybe even a marimba) arp thing seems to be hitting an odd note at around :17 that continues; I think it's part of the saturn source that isn't meshing well with junk man. Production sounds nice and clean. Wish there was a bigger breakdown to change up the energy, but the ending does well enough at that for it to be a small issue.shadows24actors: soundscape is as interesting and eclectic as last week, but seems a bit thin. Things still seem to have little flow and seem to meander. Mr. Dr. Professor L: melody can come out a lot. some key issues with sources; work to create distinct roles for your instruments (lead, accompaniment, bass) and to create a cohesive piece with the two sources. pads sounds sexy as always, and i like that kick too. KingbutnotaQueenTiger: nice intro. kick drives energy. vocals work well minus a few small small intonation/lyric issues ("i wont try" being the biggest one), but that's a really small nitpick. Diggin' the chill atmosphere here; this gives a Killers vibe that i love. Seems to be a bit long at times, but changeups do happen and work well. JiveTurkeymaster: bahahahahahaahahahahahaahahahahaha hell yeah. Jason makeaCovenanttokeepmakingthisgoodmusic: whoa. nice work using all the stardroids. Piano sounds sexy, and the whole aesthetic nails that Micheal Jackson vibe you were going for. I was just starting to write something about how things seemed to linger when that changeup happened, so nice work on keeping things interesting Jamesons writtingisSuttonelsehuh: intro hooks me like a fish. aesthetic is groovy and almost sonic spinball-esque. soundscape seems a little thin at times. Transition at 2:25 seemed a tad sudden. lead writing here is done really well Hackerstock: energy prevalent right off the bat here. nice guitar harmonies. I don't know much about guitar to comment on tone, but everything sounded nice to me. cymbals could use more panning. synth layered with the guitar in the section at around :50 seemed a little robotic. chorus at around 1:33 is really nice. Hiland Lemonade - chip sounds work really well here. atmosphere is chill, but sounds carry a energy that drives the piece. Love the breakdowns Cashmoneybaby - Kick can come out. Synth sounds are interesting but cover up the lead at times. Soundscape can be a little thin in areas. Some nice grooves in places Bentothe Briggscomebailmeout - another sonic spinball vibes. like the chip arps at the metal man bits. nice sonic 3 vocals. Rhodes provides a nice texture change to the chips. Ampharos - nice smooth sounds as always. glitches create instant interest. breakdowns change things up, but still maintain dat groove.
  15. Dude I know them feels. After looping my tracks while working on them for however long, some things can go in one ear and out the other.
  16. September doesn't really matter anyway. Wake me up when it ends.
  17. Here's the reviews: Zerothemaster - Snare comes in a bit too hot and stays relatively thin throughout. I like the sound of the moon lead. Some key issues between sources. Xarnax42 - this is a really neat idea. It seems like time was an issue here. Some of the vocal percussion seemed out of time in places. ToN - really neat intro here; i dig the voice over. nice metric modulation. The moon lead sounded a little bit harsh in the high end at times. Source usage is recognized but interp't well. Shrack - really really cool soundscape and aesthetic here. Everything sounds real nice, that concrete man trumpet could come out a little more i think. transition to piano is done well, and it sounds real smooth. Transition back to strings seemed a tad bare, but that's a nitpick. shadow24 - soundscape is interesting and perhaps even eccentric, which is pretty neat at times. my main problem with this mix is that it seems to wander around. Try to fit clear melodies and establish an architecture to the song arrangement. MindWanderer - your production has improved quite a bit since even B4C2. String stabs seem a tad mechanical, and it seems like there's a general lack of phrasing in the instruments. Arrangement is pretty neat; I love when you vertically integrated both the moon and toad man. Ending seemed a tad drawn out. Wildfire - Man i love tornado man's theme. Beat is boppin and things have energy. The leads seem thin in some places. I'm not a big fan of trance, but things kept changing up to keep my attention. Dig that lead in the section at 2:45. Jakesnake - Some heavy Hotline Miami vibes here man. Bass hits hard in the best of ways. Neat Stone Man interp, but the Moon theme transitions can seem a bit awkward (mainly the one at 2:20 just because it seemed to change moods so suddenly). Gario - really diggin the sounds in here. Harmonies are tight, and the melody drifts with a lot of detailed attention to it. I couldn't hear jewel man a lot until well into the piece, but it was there and done well, so it doesn't really matter. DrumJ8 - Pan your sounds to get a thicker mix; everything is centered here. drums could use a little more punch. Some weird tone/harmony issues popped up when the moon came in. Cosmic Sounds - nice jump in production from B4C2. Sounds are interesting, and i like the musical motifs used throughout. I wanted more moon though, but crystal man is interp't well. Brando - Solid energy. Vocals were awesome, and i loved the use of the moon B part as a guitar solo. transition between the sources were pretty much seamless; the transition at 3:09 seemed a little sudden though, and the "I am the fallen sky" seemed to drop in volume. Those are nitpicks though, this was a rockin mix. Andy - I'm diggin the bass here, and everything sounds real pretty and clean. Things have a chill groove to them, and while at times I wish things would've picked up in energy a bit, the groove and the writing kept things interesting and pleasant to listen to.
  18. I wasn't gonna do my vocal idea, but now that you've thrown this out there....
