  1. Hats are too loud, soundscape is very bare, instrumentation is somewhat weak. Get rid of the vanilla synths, and add something to create musical climaxes in the track - as of now, the first part is pretty boring, it picks up, and then stays the same for the second half. Things brightened up when the chips entered, and then the track ended. Not bad for a first mix, but it still needs work.
  2. Yeah I don't think I'm gonna have anything done - I've been in Indy all week and other things have taken up my time. Sorry MindWanderer.
  3. My last name is Rex and it's what a lot of people call me. An old girlfriend put a twist on it, singing therexasaurous like those old craft macaroni commercials (cheesasaurous). I picked it up as a forum name and used it for continuity's sake. Just recently I decided to shorten it because its what most of you refer to me as anyway and it looks a little less silly.
  4. Yeah, I thought the trailer was a little cheesy, but it had an old school Sonic feel to it that makes me excited for the game. Now for the eventual hype and fear of disappointment
  5. Nice, that tattoo looks really well done. What else are you thinking for the rest of the sleeve?
  6. Just sub'd. Source is integrated very deliberately, so here's the breakdown: :01-:10 Sonic Spinball intro should be obvious :09 FMish bass plays a variation on the intro of Quick Man :19 Chip lead plays Main Melody of Quick Man, vocoder does the Sonic Spinball intro rhythm, all of the previous stuff is still playing :37 Sonic Spinball Main Melody while everything else plays in the background :55 variation of the two basses from before (quick man and Sonic intro) 1:03 Chip lead plays the groovy bassline of Sonic Spinball for two bars and then goes into a variation of the Quick Man melody that's hard to spot if you aren't listening for it. 1:32 is ridiculous soloing with all of the source stuff backing it. Hope that helps, and sorry in advance for the somewhat short track - I was up late last night and wanted it done XD
  7. Yeah I've been following this thread, and while I think the job is out of my league, I just wanted to reiterate this point. Thank you for knowing what the fuck to ask and say in order to make your offer clear and concise. If I'm coming across as condescending I don't mean to be, we just get flaky wannabes in here all the time trying to make the next Super Meat Boy or FEZ or whatever. Anyway, good on you, good luck with your project, and any other potential game developers - this is how you recruit for a game.
  8. Yeah, that second section is where I hit a wall and it suffers because of it. As for the flute I had wanted a jazz flute for some kick but I didn't have the sample and I went with a normal flute instead, which didn't turn out so hot. My mix is hopefully almost done after tonight. Xarn, how's yours goin?
  9. The breakdown was fine, I think the problem is that there was some fast melodic stuff in the background that wasn't coming out as well as I would've liked. I'm super pumped with my track so far. About a minute in, and things are groovy.
  10. I know I said this in the JiBM thread but holy jesus that was a cool sig.

    thanks :3

  11. REVIEW TIME! zerothemaster - you always seem to improve consistently every time I hear you, which is a great thing. Soundscape starts off a little bare and stays that way. I like the instrumentation ideas here, but there's a lack of energy that I'm not diggin. You're pretty solid on the improvement though, so solid work! Mr. L - Energy builds in the beginning, and I can tell there's more of an effort to incorporate melody here, and the instrumentation sounds very pretty, but the arrangement feels like a large intro that would climax into something truly epic. jnWake - Definite Megaman 7 vibe i'm gettin here. Drums pump some energy into the track. Nice change-up to keep things interesting. I know I always say this, but your stuff gives off an old OCR vibe that I love. Solid track. Mindwanderer - solid jump in production that I appreciate, the bass might be a TAD loud, but nothing too much. Arrangement is nice, sensed a little dissonance that I didn't like around 1:00 but that's also a nitpick. My only real issue is that sometimes things seem sparse or flat, pulling energy from the track. Ending seems to go a bit long. Cash&Change - dat drum is pretty loud man XD. Things build up in the intro, creating a industrial feel that i'm diggin. Soundscape still sounds a tad bare throughout most of it, but its leagues ahead of last week and also a good improvement on what you normally pump out, so solid job. Cosmic Sounds - Nice improvement from last week in terms of production. Just wish there was more. Tuberz McButts - sexy 80s drums. Synths sound a little bare in the beginning, but the gweeetars come in to solve that problem. Stop being so fucking good (jk bby i <3 u)
  12. I'm looking forward to a stellar entry this week bud - don't let me go resting on my laurels.
  13. Awesome, man. I love it when the music has a story behind it - it makes it that more immersible.
  14. Subbed. I wanted to branch out and try something new this week, and I think I did that, even if I didn't have enough time... ANYWAY HERE'S THE SOURCE Beginning chords - the intro from Neptune Picked bass line at :07 - loosely tied to the arp-ish part of Neptune Lead at :19 until :47 - Toxic Cave Lead at :54 - Neptune lead Flute at 1:08 - the Toxic cave thing i used a lot last time 1:22 - that B section from Neptune Picked bass at 1:22 - the Toxic cave thing i used a lot last time 1:43 - a reprise of :19, still toxic cave lead. Hopefully that helps as a guide as you listen, I hope you enjoy! EDIT: I counted up the votes, and unless Darkesword's vote counts for 4, it seems that I've lost first round - I'm glad it was to a stellar track like jnWake's. He definitely earned the win, and thanks for everyone for expressing their love and distress at having to pick a victor in our match up - I could only imagine how hard it was!
