  1. Of course! If anything, they have more of a chance. Rock and Dance are two different genre with two different construction styles. Also, the reason for a panel of judges is to surpass bias of genre and focus on quality of a mix. If your mix is high quality, it gets in. If it ain't, it ain't.
  2. Typing as I hear it: Beginning of bassline is somewhat abrupt. Melody should pronounce itself more. Gets kinda boring around 3 minutes, maybe sooner if your audience didn't know what Lost Woods was. I was kinda waiting for it to get interesting, and that shouldn't happen. Make it more defined. It is kinda interesting to hear plucked strings at 3:30 but then it goes repetitive again. Post-Listening: Needs more substance. It felt very empty, and I was constantly going for the volume knob and going up, but the kick was getting louder progressively moreso than the tonal instruments, so I think you should focus on melody and hooking in your audience. If this were a situation wherein I were a DJ and I needed a cool-down song to lower tension in the room in the middle of a mix, I'd use something like this, but for OCRemix, everyone wants to hear your top-quality interpretation of Lost Woods that makes us wanna dance the trance dance. However: I like your drums. Reverb the bass though. Just some first-looks, can't wait to see how it turns out mixed/mastered!
  3. Let's not forget about Ashe busting in with a ROCKET LAUNCHER.
  4. Fighting games in general are not favorites due to the sense of one-sidedness that is oft felt when going against friends, who, despite being geeks like me, unlike me DO play them, religiously.
  5. I like it! One thing I've noticed is that I hate fighting games (excluding SSB), but Capcom is really able to make me like their songs, so good choice in source! It's a bit short, don'tcha think? I say make a small story and have two combatants themes in one mix- that's gotta be fun. Also, raise the drums. Just a bit. I'm feeling the melody, but I need some powerful rhythm, too!
  6. Very well done, but just one more suggestion. It's nothing big ,it's just personal. You might wanna add some something to the last quarter or so of the song to give it a bit of a climax, maybe double the lead? Try it out and see what you get, it's not crucial in the slightest and can surely go either way. Again, just a personal thing. Besides that, I think it's pretty good. The song keeps me drawn in and doesn't stray too far from the source, but still leaves great room for original melodies and rhythms. I definitely suggest putting this as a mod-review, though, before fully submitting.
  7. Thank you I think a foreseeable situation being that one should choose a zone, then work with all that entails. It kinda balances with more source meaning more time spent arranging from the source, but I could see hostility coming from those with singular zone themes. However, I do see your point, while, say, Sonic 3 usually has the same melody but different rhythm/arrangement between Acts, Sonic CD has very different tracks per act. This could be seen as a sort of cheating, where a Stardust Speedway Bro could have 3 distinct songs to choose from, while a Green Hill Bro could have only 1. In suffice, it's your choice, bro Just throwing my insight on the subject. (I swear I'm not a bro, I just live at the beach)
  8. Just wonderin, what constitutes as a 'Zone', per-se? Would it be "A Sonic level labeled as 'Zone'", or would it be "any level from any main series Sonic game?" Also, what about multiplayer/tutorial stages?
  9. I was personally a fan of Gaepora. 'dose brows
  10. Current WIP as of 2/6/12 So, after hearing a lot of good response from the Green Hill Zone solo, I decided to make it a two-song mix, with Green Hill stealing the show half-way through. I also dropped the faux-guitar in favor of a square-wave synth, because the guitar was more trouble than it was worth. EDIT: I am aware of the non-scale tone in the bassline solo. It was fixed mere minutes after posting, and I didn't want to re-upload cause I'm lazy. It's a sixteenth note, we can all deal.
  11. Would anyone happen to know of a good accordion VSTi? I'd doing a remix of this song and I need either a VSTi or an accordion-teer
  12. Maybe add a chaos emerald to the winnig persons signature for the comp (should there be one)?
  13. I feel like the team part would be cool, but not necessary. Also, I think it can just be as simple as "Sonic Bracket v. Robotnik Bracket." No need to overcomplicate.
  14. Definitely June-July. I live in a resort town so my work picks up in the summer, but it is slowest in early June - Mid-July.
  15. Aaaaaaaagh I just want this to happen :c I get too excited by Sonic.
  16. VG Music Show For Cool Kids Who Wanna Be Cool All The Time but in all seriousness: Video Game Tunes: The Bleeps That ARE Aloud On Radio
  17. A jazzy, somewhat-ambient remix of Bubble Man, with some ocean noises in the background. I feel happy with the arrangement, except in ONE area: I need something for the keys to do other than the constant eighth notes. Anyone have suggestions? Also, please comment on the leveling, good or bad, and say which instrument you feel should be more prominent. Also, if anyone has a good choir soundfont, please PM me, because I'm not sure how much I like this one. (link removed) Source: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bsz0UIRs-J4 ALSO: Might replace the choir with violin if anyone would want to help.
  18. I'm afraid to say I'm resigning from this project, as I am a newbie and I'd much rather get some experience rather than just run head-strong into this commitment. It's a personal decision, I'm sure I COULD do it, but I'd rather not so early in my, err, "career". In suffice, Kirby is not taken anymore, guys
  19. Well, negative motivation in the sense that the thing I'm doing is negative to me, but motivates me positively. I guess that's positive. I think.
  20. To be honest, this is possibly the most effective piece of criticism there is. The rest was most definitely extremely useful and will definitely be appreciated, but this kinda picked my feelings up. I know for a fact that I HATE repetitive music (excluding video game music because it is all looped 30 second songs, not 3:30 songs), and I was making it? Bleh. Some kind of negative motivation or something I guess, but thank you.
  21. Thank you very much, but what about the guitar is "painful to listen to" (too unrealistic, too sharp(hurts the ears), ect)?
  22. Updated for Mod-Review Really not likin 5 comments in a row bein mine :c
  23. Well, being picky, we SHOULD be called "players." But in all seriousness. I believe a good definition of "gamer" is "one whom demonstrates gaming as a primary focus or hobby." If a little kid spends hours playing his 3DS? Yeah, I'd call him a gamer. He has fun gaming for a majority of his free time. Ones experience is purely an addition to the term. And yes, unfortunately, all those "totes 3l33t" CoD 12-year-olds, are gamers, in the same way that some film buffs respect Rob Schneider as a serious actor. HOWEVER. This does not mean a person who spends a majority of their time socializing is not a gamer. Socializing isn't a hobby.
